Another busy morning at the bakery. Still, Inali didn't mind as she went through the display and began restocking it with fresh pastries and the like for customers. Ever since she had gotten old enough to help out the teen had volunteered most of her weekends and afternoons to help out at her father's store. It was actually quite fun to learn how to bake all the different goods that they sold and one of her favorite things to do was to knead bread whenever she had a really stressful day at the academy. It made a lot more sense than just punching another student in the face, right? At least that was what she had been told after being sent home for getting into a scuffle with someone who had dared to bully her brother. Thankfully they had learned their lesson and Inali had learned to take out her frustrations on dough instead of someone's face....for now.
The thought only made her chuckle as she picked up a damp towel to go wipe down the outside windows, the teen taking the chance in between the waves of morning customers to clean up a bit. There was also a nice little display sign outside with the specials written on it and other than that she just had her cloth in hand as she moved around the sign to get a better angle on a spot she had noticed on the outside glass.

It was a rather lovely day, to be sure. The cool, salty scent of the sea swept fully through the city, as though intent on following Mako on his trip. They would be visiting his mother's family soon, and he had been tasked with fetching gifts in the form of food. Everyone liked food! He peered around in search of good places to shop, but it was the scent of warm bread that cut through the salted air. With an intrigued smile, he followed the scent until he found the bakery. "Excuse me. Do you have any recommendations?"

Hmm? Inali was lost in her thoughts so it took a moment for the girl to register that someone was actually speaking to her. "A recommendation?" She asked, looking over at the boy as she slowed down her movements and pulled the damp rag away from the clean windows. "Hard to recommend anything unless I know something about your preferences." She added after another moment, amusement showing in the slight curve of her lips as she stood there and studied the stranger. Others might find her a bit intimidating with how often her expression seemed so much stern than she intended, but Inali hoped the slight attempt at a smile seemed more welcoming than fierce. It would be a shame to chase someone away from her family's bakery, after all. But seriously, how was she supposed to answer that when she didn't know this guy at all? Others might have offered ideas, but Inali was not the type to grasp at straws when she preferred being much more straightforward.

He wasn't quite sure about the young lady's smile, but maybe it was just normal for her? She looked like she didn't do it very often. Mako pursed his lips thoughtfully. "I appreciate the thought, but it's not just me I'm getting this for. It's a whole bunch of people." He managed to chuckle lightly. "A whole bunch. Between everyone, they'll eat anything." He raised his finger to tap his chin a little. Surely there was something she could do to narrow down the options. "Maybe.. something easy to share. Not too messy. Easy for the littles to eat."

"A whole bunch?" Inali mused, the teen noticing a spot and wiping it really quickly as she pondered the situation some more. "So either you have a big family or are really nice to a bunch of coworkers...or maybe trying to appease some fellow students if you study in the city." She offered before shrugging. "Either way if you're looking to appease a huge group then maybe a variety box of some sort. Basic croissants are always good, but we also have jelly pastries with some fresh apple tarts for the season." She finished with the spot and went to open the door, Inali glancing over her shoulder at the boy. "Either way maybe it's best if you just come inside and see for yourself. We have quite a lot of delicious things so feel free to browse." Wasn't that easier? Much better than her trying to explain everything from memory, even if she had helped bake some stuff last night it was far more of a hassle to try to go down a mental list when she could just show him the shelves and display full of goods.

After a pause, Mako let out a light laugh. "Really big family. Mom is one of five, and most of them have their own kids." Using treats to butter up coworkers though... that was certainly something to keep in mind for the future. Would employees appreciate treats on occasion? Maybe even regularly? Interesting thought. He headed inside as directed, unable to help how he stopped short after crossing the threshold. By the depths, it smelled even better inside! "Browsing might be dangerous," he mused with a little smirk. He went to the nearest shelf and leaned closer to look at the bread with a delicately marked crust. How did they do that? "I like the idea of a variety pack though. Any special packages or-" Out of nowhere, a sneeze sped through Mako's entire body. His hands came up as quickly as they could and he fell backward to prevent himself from getting anything on the fine breads. That didn't mean anything for the tall display of muffins that he backed into. With his hands busy covering his mouth, he went toppling right along with it. Mako might have learned how to keep his feet in a fight, but no one had trained him to do so with a sneeze attack!

"Sounds like my papa's side then." Mused Inali with understanding. That side of the family was so huge that she lost track of how many cousins that she actually had whenever they visited the farm for the harvest season. She did puff up with some pride at the joke, the girl nodding with a small smirk. "Dangerous for your wallet but wonderful for your stomach." She joked in return, enjoying the fresh smell of bread and sweets that still lingered over the bakery even after being open for a bit.
"Nah, I was just go-" Going to let you pick whatever you wanted and put it into a box... Inali winced when she watched the boy fall backwards into the display. Maybe that hadn't been the best idea for the day, not that anyone had expected someone to just tumble into the display like that! "Are you okay?" First things first, even as she caught a few of the muffins by instinct to save them from the floor, the girl only quickly placed them on the counter and tried to move the display away from the other hybrid to check on him. "Hold on..." She heaved against the display, with only a couple of shelves dangling while the rest could snap back into place thankfully, and stepped around some of the fallen muffins. "Need help up?" She wouldn't yell, not since she knew it was an accident, but it didn't help her stomach when she saw the damaged shelves that Inali knew would take some time to fix back up.

Once Mako had rolled off the display, the hands covering his face from the sneeze shifted to press over his eyes with annoyance and embarrassment. Gods, that must have looked so DUMB! If he ended up with a shop, he would have to find another town! He couldn't have such a fumblefoot reputation... "Ah.. I'll probably bruise, but my ego took the biggest hit," he grumbled as he got to his knees to take in the damage. Thankfully, it seemed that the display was intact. Some of the poor muffins though... "I'm so sorry. I'll pay for all of those that fell." He looked up to Inali, and then quickly away again to focus on helping clean the mess he had caused. So stupid! "Is the display okay? I'll find a way to pay for that, too."

Oh, well at least he wasn't angry and trying to blame her somehow for the accident. Inali had heard about customers who did such crazy stunts, trying to save their own face and money by being aggressive, but thankfully the boy wasn't like that. It kept her own temper from rising, the girl usually fierce when protecting her family and such. "It's alright. If anything you can help by maybe picking up the mess with me? We can always bake more muffins or get some extra hands in here to clean, if you feel that bad about it. No need to go broke because of an accident." She was fairly blunt, but not mean about things after all.
"My name is Inali by the way. Do I get to know the name of the boy that decided to fight with our display piece?" She attempted, poking at him to try to lighten the mood somehow even as she started picking up a few sacrificed muffins. "The floor is kind of clean, but I wouldn't sell these." Maybe she could toss them to some animals in the park or something? Eh, she'd figure it out after they cleaned up this mess. "We can try to wedge the shelves back in as well, a temporary fix until we can properly fix it back up when the bakery is closed later."

Mako nodded emphatically, scooping up whatever was within reach. He couldn't help a surprised but appreciative glance as well. He'd seen his share of business folk would wring a customer dry over an accident rather than take the hit for that customer's sake. It was refreshing, and helped him to relax a little. "Thanks. I'll help get as much as you need." If that was the case, perhaps he would just spend a little more than he had originally intended. Feeling better about the girl's reaction didn't stop his cheeks from flourishing hot at the playful tease. "It's, uh, M-Mako... My name's Mako." He let a bit of play rise to his own expression. "Although, 'The Display Destroyer' does have a nice ring to it." He stood and walked his collection of muffins over to a counter and gently set them down. Now he could focus on the shelves. "Are you working alone at the moment? Maybe I can get this done and run before someone angrier comes in." Though he spoke with a light-hearted tone, he was quite serious in his mind. Inali was being nice about it, but maybe other employees would be less forgiving!

Inali grinned. "Good. I'm counting on you." She could already think of the list of chores that she could get help with while he was willing to assist. Inali walked over to grab an empty box, placing the damaged cupcakes in there so that they were together instead of being scattered about the bakery. "Mako, the display destroyer." She let out a loud laugh at the thought before glancing back towards him as she left the box on one of the many tables scattered throughout the bakery. "Just for the moment. The one person on staff had to leave for an emergency and my Papa had to go grab something from our home, but he should be back in a bit. If you want to try to fix it up quickly then good luck~ Maybe that'll be good motivation." She was teasing though for the most part, not that Mako knew anything about her father or if he was a kinder man who would forgive an accident like this easily.
"I think the shelves can pop back in." Now that she had picked up the pieces it gave her a chance to look over the display more. "If we can get the shelves in then we can hopefully sweep the crumbs from the floor before our afternoon rush of customers arrive. That would be ideal at least, I think." As she spoke the girl took one of the shelves and gingerly worked at wiggling it back into place to the best of her ability.

The laugh caught him by surprise, but he couldn't help following with his own chuckle of amusement. Being known as a 'destroyer' wasn't ideal, but maybe it would be a fun alter ego! As long as, you know, he didn't actually go around damaging others' property on purpose. "So this is family owned. No wonder everything looks so good." He gave another chuckle, a hint of wariness in his tone. "Your papa... yeah, that might motivate me a bit. We'll at least get the mess out of the way." He followed Inali's lead and plucked up another shelf to pop back into place. As he did, he leaned closer to look at how the shelves fit into place. Oh.. that one had a crack in it. "I know where to find some good quality wood if you want this replaced. Or, if you've got the tools here, I can patch this up to get it back in order. It's not my primary job, but I know a little about woodworking."

"You think so?" Inali couldn't help the proud expression that crossed her features at the praise. "I suppose that checks out then." She said boldly, the hybrid raising her chin as she surveyed the bakery. At least cleaning up wouldn't take too long but the damage to the shelves did make her expression falter with guilt. Was it her fault for moving the display a bit too far out like this? She was just hoping for more customers to notice the muffins...
The surprising offer about the woodworking though returned her smile and the girl nodded. "If you don't mind. It's already broken so why not see what you can do to fix the shelf? I can work on cleaning up the rest of this if you want to try to do some woodworking....there's a toolbox behind the counter somewhere." She brushed her fingers against her top, the girl cleaning off the crumbs before disappearing for a moment and returning with a wooden box full of tools for Mako to use. "Here you go." Hopefully he could fix it and if not then she would just have to apologize to her father and explain the situation when he came back to the bakery.

Mako nodded affirmatively, though his eyes lingered on the young woman briefly. Confidence was so pretty on her... He quickly snapped his gaze back on his new project and clapped his hands together. "Great! I'll just do some measurements and go get that wood right away." In the end, the shop had its display back up and functional. It wasn't any fancy professional work, but it did its job and didn't look any worse for the wear. While the circumstance was unfortunate, he felt good about his work.
