Maia 1

The brush slid carefully over the surface of the vase, dislodging another few grains of sand stubbornly clinging to it, allowing the designs underneath it to take shape. Maia would see it had two borders all around it, framing different scenes of desert life from long, long ago. On one side, two farmers stood in knee-high water harvesting a long grain. On another side, a potter sat in front of his work table, his hands carefully arranged around the bowl he was shaping. None of it featured anything to do with entertainment, which she knew was the primary focus. But history was history and she couldn't take her eyes off it, all the while her hands moved along it with the brush, meticulously cleaning it.

A stray strand of blue hair fell over her face, brushing against her lips. Focused more on her work, she blow on it, watching it flutter in front of her face towards her work, only then noticing it was hair and not a stray insect. Putting down her brush for a moment, she tucked it back behind her ear and went back to work. Even if it had been an insect, that would have done little to break her concentration. Where she came from, insects were formidable. Here, they were merely a distraction.

But before she picked back up her tool, Maia looked up, dark eyes surveying the others around her. She had her work table set up outside. Maybe a bad choice with the sun glaring down on her. However, it made her feel closeted when she worked inside. Outside, she was another figure working together to unearth amazing things. It was a nice reminder of how far she had come. It made her lips form a soft smile as she picked back up her brush and moved to another side of the table to better check for more dirt to brush off.

Kaimana rotated an ancient tablet, the faded engravings coming to life on his drawing pad as he sketched out the details for the academy's records. It looked like another rain summoning ceremony, a majority of the wandering nomadic tribes from centuries ago having their own take on the dances to the gods that summoned water. It definitely was a piece of interest for Omari who would study it further to dissect the steps engraved on the tablet, the dancer relying more on the paper sketch that Kaimana would give him instead of risking the tablet by handling it too much. The tablet itself would go into a display where it would be protected and Kaimana could just make more copies for anyone who needed. Though nothing would beat the original tablet, that much he assumed, at least not when it was at its original state. There had been gemstones or something like copper inlayed in the design, the faint remnants shimmering in the sunlight while the rest had somehow fallen apart with time leaving only the faint outlines.

"Well, enough of that." Kaimana closed the sketchpad and stretched, finally standing after spending so much time sitting to draw. Now he was just curious what the rest of the team was doing, the Matori slowly wandering around the camp until he came across a familiar shifter. "Ah, I see you made it out here." He teased lightly as he leaned forward, peering towards what Maia was working with. "Enjoying the experience?"

Maia 2

Maia was deep in concentration of her work, admiring the fine brush work on the figures of her vase. The shadows of other workers passing her by got little notice from her. They usually kept on going, too content on their own work to stop and spend more than a few seconds to see what she was doing. It didn't really bother her that no one stopped to have a chat with her. It was preferable, really. She'd always been a bit of a loner. Talking to others was too awkward to bother doing. Solitude had been her only friend and she was stubborn to completely give it up.

So when another shadow passed close by, the Shifter paid it as little mind as the others. Until it started speaking to her, in an all too familiar voice that made her instantly sigh and her eyebrows to knit together slightly. Oh, him. Was he come to mock her, again? Talk down to her?

Holding the tiny brush between two of her fingers, Maia straightened her back and looked at Kaimana, a small frown on her face as she awaited one of those two things. The pull to be snarky first was great, but she managed to ignore it. Somehow. "I did. And I am. You seem to be blocking my sun just a little bit." Glancing back down, she positioned the brush over the smooth surface of the artifact. It was almost clear of sand.
