Spring storms can often appear with out little notice and last for days. They are filled with strong winds and heavy rain, which means one must halt their travel if they are able to even get outside during the downpour. Your character has found themself stuck away from home in an area with others seeking to avoid the storm. Who do they meet? What do they talk about? How do they feel about the storm?

[ A storm has resulted in your character finding themself stuck in a location with others. Who do they encounter? What conversation do they have? And how do they feel about the strong storm rolling through? ]

It wasn’t often that Sienna found herself without at least one sibling by her side, but when she did usually something went awry. Sometimes she simply wandered off, mindlessly looking after plants until she couldn’t find her way back or she would inevitably say the wrong thing to someone, thus unintentionally insulting their entire bloodline. She enjoyed the company of others, truly she did, but Sienna often found it harder than it was worth. The little youngling would much rather be in her garden amid the various weeds and mud piles than in the thick of conversation.
Which was where she unfortunately found herself.
She tugged her skirt down over her knees and pulled them tighter to her chest. Sienna’s back was pressed firmly against a cave wall, her body shuddering with each great boom of the storm outside. The little hybrid had been in training – a senseless activity for her if ever there was one – when the storm hit and the overseeing Elidae led her pupils to the nearest shelter. There had been two grown warriors watching over her group and, well…Sienna didn’t know anyone there. She supposed she might have seen one or two in passing – or at the very least she should have, if she’d ever paid attention – but now that she was expected to attend formal lessons she just…couldn’t recall names.
All she wanted to do was go home, but their instructor was firm on not going outside in this weather. ”It’s safer just to stay here, little one. You’ll get washed away out there.” And that just made her anxiety spike. What if her parents were washed away? Or her siblings? Quielle’s group could still be out there! Little pricks of tears wormed their way into the corner of her eyes before Sienna buried her face into her knees.
A hand on her shoulder caught her attention first and when she looked up it was to one of her instructors. The Elidae may have been a few years younger than her mother and a little plumper. Her smile was warm as she looked at the crying girl, and Sienna felt a touch of relief when she was pulled into the woman’s arms. “It’s alright, love. We’ll be alright.”
“….I just want my mom.” Sienna sniffled and turned her head to bury it in the woman’s collarbone. She felt a hand rubbing circles on her back, shushing her tears as the discontented murmurs of the other children surrounded her. It seemed she wasn’t the only one scared of the monsoon. This was supposed to be a little jaunt into the wilds; a foraging trip, to seek out what was and was not acceptable healing herbs, when the sky had other plans. A few other Elidae girls huddled near them while the other instructor took on the rest of the group.
“I know. And I’m sure she’s worried about you too.” She felt the woman lay her head ontop of hers and Sienna let out a quivering sigh. “Storms are scary, but they don’t last forever.” After a moments pause she said aloud to the group, “Can anyone think of something scarier than a storm?”
“….My dad’s boots when he comes home from work.”
A round of giggles cut through the tears and when Sienna was brave enough to crack open an eye she even saw a few tentative smiles.
“Anyone else?”

“Elder Nori!”

“Yeah, Elder Nori! She’s mean!”

“Her breath smells like fish.”

“Okay children,” Despite her admonition the instructor couldn’t keep the half laugh from her voice. “That’s enough about Elder Nori. Anyone else have something to say that isn’t about Elder Nori?”

After a moment’s breath, Sienna piped up, “….Heights are real scary. Like cliffs?”

“They are scary, aren’t they? Maybe scarier than a storm?”

Sienna nodded her head and the instructor smiled.

As everyone started to speak on things that were far scarier than the storm outside – even if some of those things were as simple as their mother’s cooking – it helped to loosen the not of anxiety in Sienna’s gut. She wasn’t nearly as frightened as she had been and before she knew it the tears had stopped. Despite the fact the rain had yet to let up, she was sitting up properly and engaging her peers. No one seemed to like the storm, but they were getting to know one another despite it all and Sienna found herself opening up a little more. It was hard to judge whether the pureblooded Elidae were going to like her, but…at least this group did.
