Solo or RP Format Counts as 5 RP growth Points Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
Spring storms can often appear with out little notice and last for days. They are filled with strong winds and heavy rain, which means one must halt their travel if they are able to even get outside during the downpour. Your character has found themself stuck away from home in an area with others seeking to avoid the storm. Who do they meet? What do they talk about? How do they feel about the storm?
[ A storm has resulted in your character finding themself stuck in a location with others. Who do they encounter? What conversation do they have? And how do they feel about the strong storm rolling through? ]

Maritza was very fragile right now, and yet there was only so much that could be done for her in the tiny fishing village she'd been found in. Yurl was kind enough to let them stay until she was more stable, and if Uquin had made the choice himself he would have kept them there much longer. But Ayla approved Maritza to travel, finally, and he'd received a letter that Lioe and Marcella had come DESPITE his instructions for them to stay--
It was time to reunite with their children. So, they got onto Yurl's small fishing vessel and were on their way. It should have only been a few hours' trek by boat, but the man had been complaining about the wind and already they'd been on board almost as long as Uquin's trip there had been. And, the man kept squinting worriedly at the sky which, to Uquin, looked a bit overcast, but not thunderous.
He made a soft, concerned noise and carefully adjusted a traveling cloak they'd been given around Maritza's narrow shoulders. "You're not too cold, are you?" He asked her softly.

Sleep may have come easier now that Uquin was by her side, but that didn't mean it was lasting. Maritza would often wake throughout the night whenever pain or nightmares - sometimes both - would overwhelm her. At the very least she was able to stay conscious for longer periods throughout the day and despite an unwillingness to eat she managed to drink enough broth to retain what little strength she had.
Wounded or no, Maritza had never been one to hide away. The urge to see Isaia again, to visually confirm he was healing, had been strong enough to push her and knowing Zadia was by his side only made that feeling worse. She'd wanted to go sooner, but between her own weakness and the insistence of two healers she'd been detained. That is, until Lioe and Marcella made the trek, and now she knew they had to go.
As much as she hated to admit it, just the venture to the boat had been exhausting. After lying bedridden for so long her muscles shook from exertion and she'd been far too glad to sit in the fishing boat, even if the positioning was less than ideal. There really was no 'comfortable' spot here, no matter which way she turned and the rocking of the waves -
-Well, after the first time of reaching out with her missing arm to stabilize herself only to nearly fall out of the boat she decided to rely on her husband for the job. "Mmm? No." She murmured and rolled her shoulder with a wince. "Just hurts." It wasn't the searing, blinding pain she'd first woken with. Now it really only ached when a storm was on it's way and by the look of the sky she'd say it was about right.
"Are we going to make it before it hits?"

[IT ONLY TOOK ME HALF A YEAR!] (2/7) If only Uquin was of a stronger frame, like his daughter and grandson, then he could hold his wife in his arms and carry her with the reassurance that she was safe there. But alas, he was a wraith of a man and didn't think he could have carried a woman with confidence even in his youth, even one as petite as Maritza. At the very least though he could steady her. It helped to ground him as well, which was a relief considering the fear he was still wrestling with of losing her once more. " It doesn't seem so." Uquin admittedly mournfully. Yuri confirmed it with a grim smile, adjusting the angle of his sail and busily doing other preparations that Uquin couldn't even begin to name, considering he was far from a sailor. " Sorry lass. There's plenty of little huts along the waterways for these storms though, we won't be having those dressings getting soaked now!" Well. That was a relief, at least. The boat turned towards the bank, and they sailed another tense few minutes (suffering occasional fat drops of rain) before the shack came into view. As a healer, Uquin bristled at the sight of it, but with one glance at his pale wife he had to concede it was better than risking her getting another fever. " Let me help you." He offered, scrambling gracelessly from the boat, uncaring that his boots sank an inch in the sand of the bank.

"Not your fault." Maritza grumbled and turned her irritation skyward. Yuri was doing his best, but a storm was a storm. Whether you sailed through sea or air you had make due with what you had or suffer for it. As she was very much done with the latter she passively sat back, watching in parts what Yuri did and how he went about things, her mind unwilling to stop it's calculations even with her body in such disarray. Can't have those dressings getting wet. Never mind the fact she'd survived a bloody airship wreck and floated at sea- As a non-medical professional, Maritza saw the hut and grimaced. It was certainly a place, but at least it would be dry. The longer they stayed aboard the boat the more at risk they were as each passing wind gave strength to the waves below them. She knew it was going to get worse, but dammit she'd been so close- At first she reached for Uquin's hand, then saw the way his boots reacted to the sand and put her own atop his shoulder instead. It would push him further down as she got out, but he'd have better luck pulling out than she would if she tripped. Marginally better, anyway. We make a pair. "Is there any ventilation inside for a fire? Or should we cuddle?" Even if she hadn't been so frail the rain, wind and evening sea air would have chilled the heartiest of sailors.

(3/7) Uquin grunted quietly as his wife used him as a leverage, but other then a huff he didn't voice any complaints. The idea of cuddling with a stranger, especially a man around his age, made Uquin's lip curl in distaste, but he supposed he could understand his wife's point - once someone had experienced the bone burning chill of true cold, you didn't turn your nose up at sharing warmth with strangers anymore.
It still broke his heart to think about it, and he fought not to put on that 'constipated healer' face that he tended to wear when he was concerned.
"Well, let's take a look." Yuri mused as he trudged up to the cabin. He had to shove at the door with his shoulder, crunching it open audibly - shards of dried salt and sand crumbled as he did so. Inside was dark and dreary, but thankfully not mildewed.
Once Maritza was helped inside, Yuri beckoned Uquin over and together the two old men worked to open the windows; they were the usual Matori style, waterproofed wooden slats that could be opened to let in the ocean breeze. "I can start the fire, if we find wood." Uquin pointed out, hoping to be helpful. Yuri snorted, but at the Talean's ornery stare the fisherman held his hands up in surrender. "No arguments from me - that magic'll save us a bit of effort. Too bad you don't got a spell for firewood though."
With that, the man waved Uquin back towards his wife and disappeared outside, still chuckling. Uquin tried not to take it too personally, but the scowl on his face was hardly convincing. "Maybe we should have stayed in the village longer." He finally complained with a frown.

She hated how much it took out of her just to get to the cabin. Before the accident Maritza was in her prime - a few scars, certainly, burn marks a plenty but well made. Sturdy. Now a short walk winded her, and the push toward the cabin took whatever pep had managed to sneak back in right out of her.
Still, it hadn't been enough to deter her. When faced with the alternative of standing outside in the maelstrom that was building around them or putting some effort into her lackluster muscles Maritza opted for the latter. She didn't even bother looking to her husband as she did so, either. While she appreciated his help - truly, she was beyond grateful to have him - she also didn't need to be coddled with wind biting her cheeks hard enough to sting.
Thankfully it wasn't a long walk to the seaside hut and once they were out of the elements Maritza wasted little time in finding a spot to settle down. She gingerly lowered herself onto the ground, as close to where she assumed a fire might hopefully reside, and waited for the men to sort it out before patting the spot closest to her.
"And done what, exactly? I can sleep just as well here as I could have in that cot." Maritza reached a hand - her only hand - up to him. "Come on and sit already. If I'm cold then I know you are too."

(4/7) Left alone with his wife, Uquin allowed himself to feel a bit of guilty relief that they were off the water. For as hardy as his system typically was, he'd never quite gotten used to being on a boat or ship. He drew in a breath and rubbed at his eyes, before looking to Maritza when she replied, expression softening as he took her extended hand and dropped to sit beside her. Immediately, he lifted it so he could kiss her knuckles, then held her hand between both of his own when he noticed how cold her fingers were. Uquin wasn't typically the sort to show so much affection outwardly, but after Maritza had survived - he couldn't stop himself from lavishing her with affection that, once, would have turned his stomach. " I could hold a flame in my hands for us until Yuri returns." Uquin offered, looking at Maritza in question. He made no move to release her hand, just yet, despite his offer.

It was weird - not unwelcomed, but strange to have all of Uquin's affections. She'd gotten a taste of it when she was pregnant with Marcella for the simple fact it had been a welcomed pregnancy. They'd been in a better place - both in her mental state and in their relationship - so they could enjoy it. Also with the single birth as opposed to triplets the risks were significantly lower, but that hadn't stopped her husband from doting. Now, though, it was if he were afraid she might disappear again. Just simply turn to seafoam and drift off with the next wave. There were times she would have welcomed it. "Just having you here is enough for me." She squeezed his hand as best she could, given the fact hers was covered, and scooted a little close so that Maritza could lean into him. "How many months was it this time? Since we said goodbye?" Maritza remembered just enough to give herself an idea, but she'd also been out of it for at least one. Airship travel was certainly faster than sea voyages, but that didn't mean it was instant. They still had to dock for supplies, medical checks, inspections, etc. She'd become just as accustomed to the port in Sauti as she had in Zenner over the years.

(5/7)
Sometimes, Uquin half expected her other hand to just... reappear. To hold his own, or touch his face, or punch his arm - something. It startled him every time, to look and see that empty sleeve. But he forcibly reminded himself that HE wasn't the one who'd lost a limb. Worst of all, while it would have been difficult to get used to it, if it had been him Uquin would have been able to continue his work without it. He could take on an apprentice to teach to do the tedious bits of work.
Maritza, whose work relied both on her experienced mind and steady hands, wasn't so lucky. Even if she somehow was able to walk back onto an airship after what happened (and if Uquin didn't manage to drag her off it in sheer panic), it would be difficult to find work now with her new disability.
"... Almost four?" Uquin guessed, sighing out as he adjusted his grip to carefully wrap an arm around her shoulders. There was the length of time she and Isaia did their work... then the time she'd been out to sea, while Uquin and their family were unaware of what had happened. The weeks of ship travel to see Isaia, followed by more weeks tending to his care while she slept and recovered in the town that had saved her...? And now...
"... Maybe three. I... I don't know if I could survive another night without seeing your face, and knowing you're safe." He admitted grimly.

Four months? Even if it was just three that was still three too many. Spending months, even years, aboard an airship hadn't been an issue when she was younger. As she'd become a mother and a wife the weeks started to wear on her. It was easier, once the children started getting older, but then she'd come home to see a new wrinkle on Uquin's face or a new joint that didn't want to cooperate with him.
At the time she'd been worried that he would need care she wouldn't be there to provide. Now she was the one who needed the tending.
"...I should probably retire after this." Maritza murmured. It had been in the back of her mind for a while, flitting around the smaller corners until she had the consciousness to give it strength. Now that she could there was nothing left, but to mourn.

(6/7) Well. Yes. Yes, Uquin hoped for that. He wanted to greedily hold her close for the rest of his days, he'd just said as much. And yet, actually hearing his stubborn wife admit it froze him in his seat. The storm outside seemed to sense his unease and chose that moment to buffet the tiny shack with a rush of wind, making him shiver and finally summon the tiny flame he'd promise moments before, which he held between them. He hoped their guide would return soon, for the man's sake if not their own. " ... well. A leave of absence wouldn't be inappropriate." Uquin said with a small smile. Then, getting serious, he added, " But - I'm certain there's plenty of work for a genius engineer in the city, even if it is not on the ship itself."

"A leave of absence." Maritza snorted. "Might as well just shove me in a ditch and - " She cut herself off, her scathing tone sliding into an irritated sigh. Her mood wasn't being made better by the maelstrom outside, nor was it being assisted by the near constant ache in her joints. How much of that had already been there, but she'd been able to ignore it? Been able to push through the pain and discomfort, just to get the job done? And now that the work was done her body couldn't keep up. "Sorry - I'm still - " Maritza shook her head, pinpricks of tears bubbling in the corners of her eyes. She kept them trained on the little flame, though, and most definitely not her husband. "-adjusting? Sometimes I feel so normal and then I remember." Another slam of wind nearly made the woman jump out of her skin and her eyes went to the door. "Is he...do you think he's okay?"

(7/7) Uquin hummed quietly, considering her words. " It's not nearly the same as ... what you have gone through." Uquin said slowly, careful not to upset her. " But I remember a similar learning curve when my eye was lost." And that was all he said. There was no reassurance of 'And now I don't even miss it' or 'You'll get used to it.' But he hoped she would at least feel the slightest bit less alone to hear it. He knew that someday, hopefully soon, she would need to more thoroughly examine her feelings about her new body and what that meant for her. But in the middle of a storm, when they were going to meet with their children, was hardly the most opportune time. Uquin flicked his hand and squashed out the flame, slowly pushing himself back to his feet with an exaggerated groan. " Well - I suppose we ought to send out a search party." He sighed as he moved to the rickety door and cracked it open to peer outside. In the end, it was a while longer before Yuri returned, cursing at his inability to find dry wood in time before the rain began in earnest. The three crowded around the tiny flame - it meant that come morning when they returned to their tiny boat, Uquin dozed with his head against Maritza's shoulder, his already scant magic supply dwindled by the simple spell.

Maritza slowly tilted her head to look at Uquin as he spoke, and a light smile tugged at her lips. "What a pair we make," She murmured. Her brother had always told her as a child that she would know who her 'perfect person' was because they would make each other whole. Maritza didn't think Rivyn meant it literally, but they'd always been unique like that. An unconventional pair who by all rights should never have been, but here they were, huddled in a hut for warmth on the shores of Matori.
She whined when he snuffed out the flame, but never one to sit things out, Maritza pulled herself to her feet. By the time Yuri returned she'd actually been worried over the old man. And as for her old man...well, if she needed to hold him close for the rest of their journey then so be it. She kept him stable, tucked up on her good side, as Maritza kept her eye on the shore.
