Mystic Shores…it wasn’t the kind of store that Jaina had gone to before, but it was said to have crystals, and dumb as it sounded, she half hoped to find some special crystals there. It was a definite longshot and she didn’t expect to find anything…magical but.
Stranger things had happened, hadn’t they?
Entering the shop, Jaina blinked and gazed around. From what she had learned about metaphysical shops…was that there would be crystals and good vibes and…
There was a pretty person behind the register, and Jaina made her way over. “Uh. Hi! I’m going to preface that I’m absolutely not a Karen, but am very new to all of this stuff, and I’m going to assume that you work here but…can you give me a little bit of an overview?”
She hesitated and shrugged, giving a slight grin. “I…have really started to like crystals, and I’ve been told that you can find some here?”

Sasha was perched on a stool, flipping through a magazine with a blank look on her face. To some, she might appear bored. To others, she might appear tired. To a few, she might appear completely vacant, as if anything that sparked any sort of emotion in her had gone.
She didn’t glance up when the chimes over the door gave a quiet tinkle. She didn’t glance up when a figure entered her peripheral vision. She kept flipping pages without absorbing any of the content, and only seemed to partially snap out of her daze when a voice spoke to her.
Sasha blinked for a few moments, like she was coming back to reality after a long dream, trying to adjust to the real world again. It took a few moments more for anything the girl was saying to register. What was it about a Karen? Sasha glanced around, wondering if she’d somehow missed some middle-aged woman with too much time on her hands coming into the shop, but it was only Sasha and the red haired girl there.
“We have crystals,” Sasha agreed. Her voice was rather insubstantial—not quiet enough to be classified as a whisper, but not the type to travel or convey much emotion. “Over there,” she added, lifting a listless hand to motion toward the display near the storefront, where a bunch of crystal spheres gleamed on decorative shelves in the window. Behind them were more shelves and boxes and buckets with crystals of every shape, size, color, and purpose.
It seemed to occur to Sasha as a bit of an afterthought that her job entailed more than sitting behind the register. Belatedly, she cocked her head to the side and asked, “Are you looking for anything in particular?”

Jaina felt a wave of relief that there were indeed crystals in the shop, but also a little…sheepish as the stupid realization that they would just be normal crystals. Not really the ones that she wanted but.
Then again. “Honestly? Magical ones, but anything big and pretty would be great. I’m not. I didn’t really think all of this through, but. What are you going to do.”
Her eyes followed where the girl pointed and she hummed softly. The store was…interesting. “You have a lot of things, don’t you? What…would you recommend for someone who just…wants something pretty?”

Sasha cocked her head a little further. She seemed to consider whether the red haired girl was being serious or not asking for magical crystals, then decided it didn’t matter. Some people believed that sort of stuff, that crystals had inherent properties. Sasha didn’t believe it, but she could indulge people when she had to.
“The biggest ones are the crystal balls,” she said.
Sasha slid off her stool and led the way back to the window display at the front of the store. Some of the crystal balls weren’t very substantial, the smallest being golf ball sized, but one of the larger ones was bigger than her head.
“But we’ve got a bunch of other shapes, too,” she continued, turning toward the rest of the displays. “Cubes, pyramids, crescent moons. I kind of like the heart shaped and the star shaped ones. Rose quartz is always pretty. I like the Rhodonite ones, too,” she added, picking up a heart shaped stone that was mostly a rosy pink color with black veining. “I think they’re both supposed to help with love and emotional stuff.”

“Oh!” Crystal balls, hm? Jaina followed the sales girl and frowned slightly at the perfectly round orbs of fancy rock and picked up a purple one. Amethyst, she thought.
“I wonder…what do they do to get them so…perfect. Like, Obviously it has to be some kind of a machine, I can’t see someone just like…chipping bits away…”
Wow. She was really sounding like a dumb and useless nerd right about now, but…
“They’re really nice and smooth, and I like that. The moon ones are pretty. And so are the heart shaped ones!” The girl had good taste, at least. “I doubt that they really help with anything…but they look really pretty and they make good paperweights.
Or just to look nice on a shelf…there were a lot of options here. “That one is lovely. You have good taste in things!”

Sasha had no idea how they were crafted. She stared blankly instead of shrugging, since shrugging would probably be rude and blank staring was sort of… well, it could seem like agreement, or like maybe she was thinking, trying to come up with an answer but failing because she hadn’t thought that deeply about it before.
She wasn’t thinking that deeply about it now either.
“Thanks,” she said, not too concerned about her own tastes. She liked things because they were pretty. Her fondness for crystals had never had more depth than that. Fortunately, the red haired girl seemed to share that mindset.
“Amethyst is nice too,” Sasha added with a brief nod of her head toward the one the red haired girl had picked up. “I think it’s supposed to be for comfort and stress relief. Or maybe migraines. Or sleep. Maybe all of it? There used to be a chart somewhere around here that said what was for what…”
Sasha looked around like she was trying to find it, but also didn’t put much effort into her search, barely moving from where she stood. Finally, she shrugged. “I don’t think they actually help with anything either, to be honest. I just like the way they look.”

“That’s absolutely just…superstition.” Jaina gave a soft laugh, glad that this girl was level headed. It was good that she didn’t take crystals super seriously but.
“They’re beautiful, I absolutely agree. I want like…small crystals as a windchime, I be that would be pretty, or some kind of…cheap..ish gemstone suncatcher?”
It would look nice in her room. She couldn't deny that.
“Do you think there would be a market for something like that? Like, online?” She didn’t actually wait for an answer but pulled up Etsy and began scrolling, humming and opening two links, showing them to Sasha. “Shoot. It seems like…I mean, I’d have to learn to knot things or get some wire but…For the price of materials? Forty dollars for a few rocks? Hell yeah.”

Sasha looked over the links the red haired girl was showing her, mostly glancing at the pictures without putting much thought into how they were made or what kind of materials would be needed. She only cared that they were pretty.
“You could probably get some of the other supplies you’d need for stuff like that from the bead store down the block,” she said. “The wire, and… whatever else. Tools, probably. They have stuff there for making jewelry. The concept might be similar. I don’t know what the demand is like online, but I know people sell crafts at the farmer’s market and during festivals and stuff. A lot of the people who usually shop here would probably be into that stuff.
“I like the sun catchers,” she added. Sasha wasn’t the type to show much enthusiasm for anything, so her voice stayed pretty level, but she did look a little longer at the suncatchers. “If you’re into the artsy stuff, you should try selling some during a festival around here first. See what business is like.”

Jaina hummed softly. “I’ll look into that. Would…you mind if I came back? What days do you work? You can like…tell me if the things I’ve made are even worth trying to sell?”
It had been a very long while since she had tried to make a friend who was outside of the Court…honestly. The last one had been Malory who she had brought into the court but…
This was good. This was new ground and hopefully…it wouldn’t be completely shot down. “You have good taste, like I said before and yeah, the suncatchers are really pretty…I’ll see if I can figure out how to make one and if I don’t think it sucks too bad, you can have it if you think the same?”
A fair trade for opinions, she thought.
…Or at least hoped.

“I work most days,” Sasha said. “Usually in the afternoons. Not Sundays or Mondays. It doesn’t really get busy here so you can drop by whenever you want.”
She didn’t sound excited, but she didn’t sound troubled by the thought that they might meet again either. Sasha’s voice probably didn’t even have the range to accomplish sounding enthused. But she was friendly enough and she could sort of manage a smile, even if it was more a twitch of the lips and not a very noticeable change from her normal expression.
“That’d be nice,” she added, because it was the polite thing to do and because she actually wouldn’t mind a suncatcher. It didn’t have to be perfect. It was the thought that counted, right? “Thanks. I hope you figure it out.”

Jaina nodded and began to pick out some crystals to begin working with, planning what she would make, and thinking that she had a pretty good idea of where to start, but if not…hey. It was still going to be well tried and she would have done her best.
“Yeah. I’ll see you again soon when I figure things out!” Maybe the suncatcher wouldn’t be the first thing she made, Sasha deserved something that had some skill behind it but…it woudln’t be long.
After paying for her items, she gave a little wave. “I’ll see you later then! Thank you for all of your help!”
With a grin, she left the store with her spoils and couldn’t wait to get started.
