This was fine, Minnie told herself. It wasn't fine. She hated this, but until she figured out the truth, she kinda at least had to go through the motions a little bit, which meant draining energy, which meant, yeah. She'd thought a lot about the best way to do it. She'd thought about going to workout classes and draining people there, but she didn't want to keep people from their fitness goals! Also, she had to touch people to drain them, and that wouldn't fly. She'd thought about trying to find someone in a club to hit on, and doing it that way, which would probably be less suspicious. It was still an idea she was holding onto, but she didn't know if she liked it. She'd still ended up in a nightlife area of town, but instead she'd ended up with an option that was slightly worse for herself but hopefully slightly better for the person she was draining? It was a middle aged guy, and by how boozy he was, she didn't think he would remember any of this anyway. Minnie held onto that thought, because if she overthought any of this, she was gonna talk herself out of this draining strategy, too. So, she just went for it. She sprinted up from behind, grabbed him, and just started draining. He gave a surprised grunt, but Minnie just held onto him and kept draining and draining. It didn't take too long for it to seem like he was getting sleepier. Oh, but what was she going to do with him when he fell asleep? She hadn't thought that far ahead.

Teegan hadn’t done much patrolling since his purification. A lot of it was just trying to get his life back on track. Some of it was the nagging fear he’d drag something back to the Bells’ house and compromise them and the other people living with them. Either way, the cool air on his skin made him glad that he had brought a sweater with him, especially as the sun went down. His shield made him stand out, though, and he didn’t think there were any conventions in town he could cite as a reason for it. So Teegan wasn’t Emain Ablach yet, was staying off to the side, was hoping he’d see any trouble coming before it saw him. Zebulon had mentioned that they went patrolling powered, but Zebulon didn’t have a giant shield to try and find an excuse for. He had stopped between two buildings to take a look around, maybe go get a pepsi, when a flurry of movement across the street caught his attention. It was dark, so it took him a moment to find the source of that flurry of movement. At first, he thought someone was getting mugged. Then he realised what was actually happening. Well, now he had to figure out a way to power up and stay discreet, since he hadn’t been powered ahead of time. That became possible due to trash bins that he could crouch behind. Fortunately, no one noticed or said anything. He could probably thank the density of bars, where he would get less attention and eyes for his outfit and shield. The nightlife area of town tended to ignore things out of the ordinary anyway. Beer goggles were pretty useful, that way. Once powered up, he took just a second to check to make sure he wasn’t about to get hit by a car and darted across the street. “Hey!” Brandishing his shield as, well, a shield, Emain Ablach set about trying to pry her off of the man she was draining. He didn’t want to swing, just in case he missed and hit the guy instead.

Minnie didn't know if she could say that this was going well, but it was definitely going. The man looked like he was getting sleepier. The orb thing in her other hand was getting bigger. Then, out of nowhere, something solid was coming down between her and the drunk guy. Something wooden? It dug into her arm enough that she gave a surprised grunt and dropped the guy, turning to take a look. Okay. The thing was a shield, and it was being held by a Knight, maybe? That would check out, knights had shields, and if she thought about it, he had the same kind of feeling coming off of him as that from-Mercury-but-actually-Texas guy from before. If he was anything like that guy, he might also have the goal of trying to stop people like her. Cool. She released a breath through her teeth. The drunk stumbled a few steps away from them, and then collapsed against the wall with a loud snore. Minnie put her hands up with a lopsided smile. The energy orb was still loosely gripped in one set of fingers. "Hey," she said casually, like she hadn't just gotten caught red handed and attacked for it. "What's up?" The slight redness across her cheeks showed her guilt, though.

What did she mean ‘hey’? What did she mean ‘what’s up’? At least the drunk guy wasn’t getting any more of his energy drained. Emain Ablach put himself between her and the guy she’d gone after, and then put his shield between himself and her. Just in case. “Don’t suppose you could just give that back so he can get on his way.” Emain Ablach jerked his head toward the sleeping drunk. “You know, before something happens to him while he’s compromised like this.” Something like getting robbed or mugged or, worse, her or someone else coming along for his starseed once Emain Ablach’s back was turned. “If you give that back to him, then as far as I’m concerned, I’m willing to pretend it never happened.” A glance between her and the drunk, then back to her. Something about the look on her face made him venture, “you don’t seem like you want to be doing this anyway.”

He wanted the energy back. Yeah, that totally made sense. Minnie kept holding onto the orb anyway, frown deepening. "No, I don't want to be doing this, but I am gonna have to keep it. Sorry, bro." Hopefully that wasn't about to set him off, because that shield had actually hurt her arm, and he hadn't even been that aggressive. "Like, don't get me wrong, there's a pretty high chance that the Negaverse is a either a cult, a mafia, or both," and from the little bit she knew, she was leaning towards both. Energy draining? Who did that? Cult mafias,it looked like. "But also, I gotta keep my head down until I figure out what's going on, if there's a way to get out of here without the Negaverse getting bent out of shape about it," or how she was gonna do that, because there was something physically in her chest right now making her an agent, "And if you guys are any better." Maybe they were actually trying to take over the world. She didn't know. "And to do that, I've gotta give at least a little bit of energy to my questionable bosses."

His sigh was a bit aggravated, he had to admit. “Please don’t make me fight you for the energy.” He ran his free hand through his hair, tousling it in agitation. “It won’t be fun for either one of us. Take it from me—we’re better than the Negaverse.” Was he about to have to bare his soul and confess to her that he used to be an agent to get her to listen? Would that work? He’d do it if he thought it’d work… “And I would know.” There, it was thrown out to the wind, self-deprecating tone of voice and everything. She could take it or leave it. Emain Ablach took a step toward her. “So, again, could you please just give it back so we don’t have to squabble over it?” He waggled his shield her direction.

" 'M not scared of you," said Minnie when he started acting feistier. She was used to dealing with gym bros who thought they were a lot scarier than they were. This dude couldn't be much worse than than that, even if he was holding a sheild. Also, she'd taken a lot of kickboxing. Although, there was something about the way he was talking that caught her attention. "But fine," she said. "I'll make you a deal." She tossed him the energy orb, underhand. "You take that, and you tell me exactly why it is you think you know you're so much better." It was what she was trying to find out, after all. She could figure out something to do for energy later.

He wasn't asking her to be scared of him, but he wouldn't turn it down if it'd help, Emain Ablach guessed. He didn't like bargaining using fear, though. So when she said she'd make him a deal and then tossed him the energy ball without much further ado, Emain Ablach was sure to catch it and tuck it safely against him. Guarding it. Evaluating her deal. "Alright. Fine." He looked around them, frowning. "We should go someplace else. At least not the middle of the sidewalk." Who knows who could overhear them? Also, they would just be in the way. "Over here." He turned and gestured to a nearby bus stop bench. It was enclosed and everything. Plus, people heard crazy s**t on public transit all the time. "Let me just--" But, first things first, he turned to the drunk she'd drained and pushed the energy back toward him. Emain Ablach had not done this a terribly large number of times, but it seemed pretty self-intuitive. The energy disappeared back into the man, at least. He'd consider that a win. Emain Ablach straightened and turned back to her. "Alright, after you. Unless you have a better idea of where to go." He did keep his distance, however, just in case she changed her mind and wanted to get revenge for him bopping her with his shield.

She hadn't wanted the energy, but it was weird how much she hated watching it go back. I earned that, she thought, and she didn't know where that thought was coming from, because she knew it was wrong. She'd stolen the energy, and she hadn't even wanted to do it. Here she was anyway, with the passing thought that maybe she should've fought the guy for it. Instead, she sighed, and shook off those thoughts. She followed him to the bus stop, and she perched on the edge of the bench, leaving plenty of space between them so he wouldn't get spooked. She stepped one foot up on the bench, too, and hugged her knee into her chest. "M'kay," she said, looking over. "Your turn. Tell me about the Negaverse."
