Raolvar 1
Well it was time to meet the family..or at least part of it, it also wasn't like he didn't already know them all, just that he knew Thallassa and Kechiri the best that was all.
He knocked on the big house and a woman with Kechiri's hair color and frown answered. Oh gods, this was Saeruin the blacksmith and Kechi's mother. Well he had not cut corners, having come across the mom first. Which was probably only marginally better than running into her Dad. She was closer to her dad and often she said at odds with her Mother, sometimes that happened in families, he had lost his so long ago that he had forgotten that sort of dynamic, he also didn't think that his family had that kind of dynamic.
"Hi there, do you have a moment?" There, be brave.

Saeruin 1 Saeruin opened the door to see Thallassa's iceling friend at the door. Odd. But not unheard of, this was the same man who tended to disappear for long periods of time into the bush where he liked it. "Hello," She had been just about to sink her teeth into a nice book with a nice tea and she was not at all pleased about being dragged out of self reflection and her time to the door. "Can I help you?"
He looked nervous, had he let those new snaptrotters out or something by accident? Weenies. One was never through with them.
"What is wrong you are shaking like a leaf, can I offer you...tea...spirits?" There that was polite right? She didn't have much contact with the outside world. She had all of one proper friend.

"Uh er well, I am Raolvar, your daughter Kechiri's boyfriend. She was not able to visit too or this would have been way less awkward but she was feeling a bit under the weather. And I figured it had been long enough without you and your husband knowing about us. It could be worse, I could be a complete stranger." He rubbed the back of his head embarrassed. This could be the most scary thing he had done, and he was a ranger so that was saying something. The look on this woman's face was frowny and calculating, much like he thought Kechiri's father would look like if posed the same information. "Sorry we er, didn't tell you guys sooner." He wanted to be literally anywhere but where he was right at this moment; the sea, the woods, far away from people besides Kechiri. All of these options sounded better and better the longer he stood there awkwardly.

Saeruin 2 She blinked her regular expression stamped fully on her face. If she wanted to get the max amount of information out of him she would have to play this smartly. Better that it be him, the boyfriend than her daughter who knew the game better than she herself did. "Boyfriend huh? When did this happen then?" Ushiruin had been right, they had been spotted together. Inside she was hecking delighted at this confimation of her hopes, her son was no longer her number one consideration for grandchildren. She was not sure she was done with having kids yet. She sort of yearned for children again. Though she had the best children already and if her kids kept her busy with grandchildren, then was there a need to have another for herself. Hmm. This deserved much thinking. "We heard nothing about this." A blatant lie, the boys had noticed. Ultear and Ushiruin and Ushiruin had alerted her. As he should as her most loyal son. Her only son. Gosh she wished she had another one just like him but smaller and cuddlable.

Raolvar 3 Woo, Kechi had not been wrong about how scary her parents were. He knew that she personally got along better with her father. And that he would likely be more protective of her but he thought she may have just underestimated her scary Mother. He knew he was good looking, he knew he was in good standing with her family and he hoped that that would be enough to pass through this familal gate. They had deserved to know that their daughter had someone who would always be on her side, always be on her corner, come mutiny, keelhauling or hurricane. But he had not expected such a cold reception. "We hope that you accept our suit but realize that we do not require your permission to continue to see each other. If you need a character reference, please contact Thallassa, he of all the Ninyelt clan, knows me the best, another reference could be Nin or even Kiyelt, I am known to this clan and your daughter is the one for me and I will not back down."

Saeruin 3 "Hmm, our approval, and bear in mind it would be mostly my approval, as Ushiwa has his own opinions as we are not completely joined at the hip and mind, requires information. You are known to me from the long association with this family line...but I require information concerning before you were an adoptive part of the great southern Matori Ninyelt clan." She pierced him with eyes that were her daughters eyes, oneof the few things besides her dark mane of hair that her fiesty, fiery, wayward, stubborn daughter had inherited from her. Their near animosity was legendary, and no doubt it had been mentioned to this man who was Kechiri's mate who had sort of riffled off into the bush at around the same time that Saeruin had started to spend a lot of time with this her new clan. So many awesome things going on nowadays. Hope threaded through previous despair, her best friend having an Alkidike woman and son and Kechiri having gods blessing a proper boyfriend.

Raolvar 4 He inclined his head. "I think these are agreeable terms, Lady." This was to be his mother in law after all and he had an imagining how how much of a pain she could make herself if Kechiri was anything to gauge by. It helped that he had vaguely known Saeruin and Ushiwa before his relationship with Kechiri had begun.
Bless him but he was just happy that there was a girl out there so well matched for him as Kechiri was after two potential relationships that sort of just flopped for him. He had originally been a contender for her aunt Ristadis and then for a alk water hybrid who seemed to not be nearly as interested in him as he had been of her, of course he had left for many moons at a time and never penetrated the wall that was the leafling girl that had lived with her. And after everything he was glad it had never worked out with them because he had been meant for someone more special, the very queen of the seas.

Saeruin 4 "So where do you come from, what is your history, who were your parents, where do they rest?" She paused to take a breath and to fire off more questions. "If you had a favorite critter what would it be?" This was an important question for a beast taming clan. "What is your favorite color?" Because she was curious. "How old are you, have all your family been icelings? Did your people have any special customs? Were they not nomads?"
She was feeling awfully proud of herself for coming up with such penetrative questions, no doubt Ushiwa would be pleased with the information she gleaned from the handsome man today, for she could not call him a boy. He had been out and about for a while. But then Kiyelt was a bit older than Nin. A real man could help Kechiri where a boy could not. Irreguardless of his answers she would approve of anyone who was brave enough to tame the living flame and survive, just as she had with her mate. The boy deserved a medal.

Raolvar 5 Well that was indeed a lot of questions. He did his best to organize the information she wanted in his head before it spilled forth from his mouth. "My family is from Zena initially, we were a nomadic tribe, I no longer remember my parent's names, but I remember I was a youngling when the family was attacked. My Aunt told me to run, I never saw the rest of my family again, though I remember I was closest with my Mother." He took a deep breath, it was easier to talk about what had happened now. He had never seen another member of his family and he had come to the conclusion that he was the only survivor. "I am all that is left of the Swiftfoot nomadic tribe. Suppose that sort of makes me the prince if you look at it sideways enough, though I don't consider myself that or noble." Goodness she had asked a lot of questions. "My favorite critters are radaku and snaptrotter. My favorite color is teal and I am not entirely sure how old I am."
"So far as I know all of my family have been Icelings however there were rumors of a little wind in my lineage many generations back, we think that is where the wandering tendancies came from but this has never been proved."
He gestured at his adornment, "The only custom besides constant movement my tribe had was sinking their extra capital in jelwerly. This shows wealth and prestige.

Saeruin 5 Well that had been a satisfactory well of information. "Alright come in, I can put some tea or coffee on depending on your pleasure." She turned and he could not see the huge grin on her face. He was indeed good looking, it would add a nice fine bone structure to her family line. And all along she thought that Ushiwa was more obsessed, turned out she was just as bad.
She put the kettle on, as that was needed for either hot beverage. It was the main house for a change and it had ALL of the tea. Nin was a tea connoissure and the rest of the family went along with it when the matriarch requested such a visit. Sae would definitely be meeting with her after this. What with all the juicey details she had just gotten in a barrage. She had gotten very close with Nin over the years, the woman had never judged her and had always been a welcoming warm presence.

Raolvar 6 "Coffee please." Not that he needed the caffiene but it was his preferred drink. He took a deep breath and then stepped inside the house, it was large and he remembered the big house well. It was kind of strange being double the guest but also kind of having grown up here to a certain extent.
"Thank you." All things considered the inquisition hadn't been that bad. He had honestly been expecting much worse, but perhaps that was the difference between mother and father. Ushiwa would likely not have been so lineant, but then Kechi was very special to him. Rao could understand that, she was very special to him too.
She was the only girl he would ever truly love, well unless they had a daughter but that was a different kind of love from this.

Saeruin 6 Coffee was an interesting choice. She looked closely at him. "You are more like my daughter then I thought. She too prefers coffee over tea." She was naturally not a talkative person and it was a bit awkward to talk to your daughter's mate what with her pesky daughter not even being there.
Likely Kechi was off doing Kechi things and Sae knew better than to ask where she was. Instead she tried a different tact and something her soul and heart were telling her to do.
She walked over to where Raolvar sat and hugged him firmly. "Thank you for taking a chance on my daughter, she is feisty but there is so much good in her. You are a smart man for choosing her." She wiped a quick tear away. She was not used to giving such shows of affection to those she was not directly related to. But well he was family now..twice wasn't he.

Raolvar 7 He was shocked at the unexpected show of affection. The hug of a Mother had been denied him for as long as he could remember well and he may have wrapped his arms around her too.
Orphans seemed to communicate on an unprecidented level. "You don't have to convince me of her charms, all this time I thought I liked shy retiring lasses and she, 'Fiery Pirate Queen' holds all the strings to my heart now." He took a deep breath and just inhaled. This was what a Mother's love felt like.
His eyes watered sharply and he sniffled a bit. "Kechiri said you had a rough childhood too." They broke apart and he wiped at his face. "Sorry. Its just been so long since well... since I had anyone approaching a mother." Now his life just kept getting richer and richer. "If you would have me."

Saeruin 7 She looked at the boy that looked much like her parents and her mate and smiled warmly, cupping his cheek in her hand. "Of course boy, I will have you. Not like I would have much choice anyway as Kechiri chooses few people but those she does she guards and loves most fiercely. You will do well in this family, you were one of us already just not blood tied."
She bit her lip before she could beg the boy for grandchildren, it would be better to let them get to know each other before taking that leap. Though as she had thought before they would be good looking kids, she could only hope Ushiruin found a mate half as pretty. Ahh to be a Mom, ever obsessed with your kids forever. At least she had added one more.
"I think Thal will be pleased. And at least Ushiwa knows you." She ruffled his hair playfully like they had always known each other.

Raolvar 8 'I uh, thank you, I won't let you down, she really is the very love of my life. I am glad we gave it a go. We met again after years and years when those pirates took down her ship, she crawled out of the bush half feral."
He smiled at the memory, "I fed her and kept her safe and we agreed that what with all our combined failed romance we might try it. I thank the gods every night that we did. I was so very alone for so very long and she had trouble finding meaningful relationships." He eyed his woman's mother, "As I have no doubt you noticed."
"From there after she got her new ship, we would see each other when she was on shore leave and it developed from there, until I won out over the sea for a bit and we left her crew behind to explore. Now we inhabit a small secluded island that we hope will help keep us safe."
