She had received a letter from her old friend Kellye. It had been a strangely long time since he had visited and she had prepared some of Mama Nin's special tea for guests. It had extra pretty flowers in it. She was eager to hear the news of his life for the past forevers. She was somewhat isolated on the ranch and usually she preferred it that way. However the long winter storm season was nearly at an end and she was anxious to be moving again. To be doing. This was usually the time where she and Ushiwa deked off into the forest and spent some time hunting and wandering and overall celebrating the change of season. It was a good time and she found herself full of energy and hope for the future.
She hoped Kellye was faring well she had just about been about to set off to look for him but then his letter had come and she had been somewhat mollified by its reassurance. It was his writing after all and he called her always by her old name, unknown to anyone but him and family. She looked out the window of the big house, hovering over the kettle ready to fire it up at the first sight of her iceling friend.

His life had taken a new turn and he had been so busy living it that he well, he had neglected to inform his best friend about the changes in his life. He was going to pay for that today he was sure. This wasn't just any friend this was his oldest and bestest friend. She had her life here of course but well, he had been gone for quite a while and er, had a child with a beautiful alkidike woman while he was away. There was going to be Chi to pay. He hadn't even sent Sae a letter until a few days ago asking for an audience.
But once he had found his woman..okay first he had been sick and thought he was hallucinating and then he had fallen in love and after that he just..hadn't bumped into Sae as they had spent a lot of their time in Jauhar so that Thoraka could be among trees similarish to Aisha if he was not allowed on the island itself before bringing him to Matori for a more extended stay. It had all just made sense at the time and he was..very remise for not keeping his friend apprised of his..situation. He knocked on the door to the main house. The ranch had not changed.

Eagerly she opened the door and immediately engulfed her friend in a hug. "How good of you to come after so long." She held him away from her for a minute, her long ago established mothering instinct kicking in. "You look good! I have so much to tell you." After her mate she didn't trust anyone else as much as she trusted this fisher theif. 'I see fishing has been treating you well, brother mine." He wasn't her actual brother but he might as well be for all the actual difference it made. "How goes your life?" She was mincing from foot to foot. "My daughter came home, farried by a pair of Aishans, Seas bless them but they brought me my Elaxi back. She is a little worse for wear but she will mend well enough with time and family. I'm sorry I couldn't wait to say, I had so hoped that she had not been harmed. Apparently she was adopted out to a Yaeli family who could not bear children, can you imagine...did you get hit with the fancy tree too?" She looked him over. "You did! Your crystals are..darker? Yes. Ushiwa and I and our kids were not changed but some in our family were. Kechiri was right bent out of shape about it."

"Mmph." He said but hugged her back. He really had taken too long to visit but well he had been ...busy. "Yes I was affected by the changes but thankfully not very much. "I am sorry I have not been more in contact, I had...well I had a lot going on." He bowed his head but brought it up again. "I'm really glad you found your daughter, I have been gone a while, I hope she is readjusting to the hustle and bustle of this family." The Ninyelts were a face paced grab it by the horns type family and could be a lot to manage and by his calculations and what not Elaxi should be a prentice in age by now. "I hope she was unharmed?" Having a daughter stolen was a fate he would not wish on anyone, or like himself and Sae, to have parents taken by fate leaving them orphans.
She had been through so much, he was happy it was on the up and up for her now.
"I have so much to tell you."

"Come in, come in, I have put the tea on. I remember your favorite don't worry, if there is one thing the big house has it is tea. Mama Nin ensures this, she is a big tea person I think you will find." Sae loved her mother in law, Nin was the only Mother she really remembered and she had sort of won the mother in law lottery.
She made them tea and then settled down at the big kitchen table with him the best place for catching up and drinking tea.
"So tell me everything." She put first a teaspoon of sugar in her hot tea, she could read their tea leaves after as it was loose leaf. It was always how they had helped the long winter nights of Zena pass.
Then she put just a little fresh cream in her tea and swirled that around smartly too. Then she grinned and took a sip. She didn't have many friends, he was sort of the be all end all for people she had actually stayed in contact with and besides her family he was the most trusted.

The warmth of the tea infused him, in which he took a bit of cream and nothing else. Tea was always a luxury for a fisherman, cream even more so as cows did not take well to the high seas and powdered milk was a sad substitute. He sighed deeply. "Well it all started when I was on leave from the fishing vessel. I decided that a bit of travel would suite me and I packed up and went on walk about." He took another fortifying sip. This tale would just get harder and harder for him so he should just spit it out.
"I wasn't there for all that long, out in the bush alone, having a great time, until I went and got sick and it was a real sick too. Fever, hallucinations the whole shebang. At one point I dreamt of a woman with large cool hands and a gentle calming voice. I though maybe it was the spirit of the forest come to take me away to the afterlife after exploring a place I so obviously should not have." He took a deep breath and another deep sip of tea.

Already this was shaping up to be the best story she had heard in years. She had known Kellye to be intrepid but to go to the rainforest yourself alone without a guide was pretty foolish. There was just so much life there so she had heard that it was all clamoring for sunlight and attention. Plants and animals that were dangerous like Matori's animals were dangerous. Each place had its own quirks. She wished he would just spill forth all of his information but the way he was drinking his tea made it seem like a hard conversation to have. She supposed it would be if he had almost died out there in the jungle. "I'm glad you obviously made it. It sounds like a dangerous sickness to have, plus the climate over there is pretty strong so I hear, warm but wet and dawn and night must have been like torture on your body."
She too took a long pull on her tea, letting the smooth liquid and sweet taste rub the worry out of her. He was fine now after all.

"Ahem, well as it turned out, it wasn't a dream. An alkidike warrior had found me on her patrol and said I had cried out for help. She having a good soul had not been able to refuse me." He waved his hand ineffectually indicating his dilapidated condition at the time that Zuella had found him. "Her name was Zuella and she was on a distant patrol range on the mainland of Jauhar near an established Alk and shifter settlement but based out of a small hut. It was there she brought me, I don't remember much of it besides the very colorful alkidike style blankets she piled on top of me." He blushed remembering too that she had warmed him even then with her body heat, which was probably the only reason he had even survived to begin with. "It took time but eventually I healed and she let me go." Not that he had been a prisoner in any way. "I couldn't stop thinking about her and so I sought her out, you see I had started to fall in love." He peeked at Saeruin over the top of his cup to see how she was taking this new revelation.

She had the table gripped so hard her knuckles were white. The plot thickened!
"And then? Tell me what happened?" She resisted the urge to shake the male she thought of as her brother. "Did she return your feelings? Do I have to go beat up the woman that saved your life? Was she a snob? Did she snub you?!" She was aware she was all but shrieking at this point but she could no more control the tone of her voice than she could the grip of her hands at this moment. This definitely was the most interesting thing she had heard in years.
"Tell me all of it Kellye, don't you dare leave anything out I have been here in this beast ranch for so long, starved for proper gossip, you owe me for keeping you in the dark so long."
He really did, the iceling male could not even deny it. She glared until his lips started moving again. Her heart pounded in her chest but her hands relaxed somewhat on the table.

"Well no she didn't snub me, we had a mutual attraction that developed into love over time and well, after living together for some time we made the decision to petition the elders and Aisha for a child and we were approved. Zuella's prayers were heard and we were notified of our son Thoraka's lotus not long after so Aisha thought we should have a child too, so what I'm trying to say is I now have a son. He is a perfect blend of Zuella and myself. He has my hair and Zuella's skin, he has even inherited my tree changed crystals no less." Thoraka looked very much like him and he couldn't be more proud. "He is feistier than we thought but we hope with time he will settle in. He needs guidance and he needs us. He is getting older." He was watching her expression but her face seemed to be a bit frozen at the moment. "Sae? I know its a lot of information, but well you couldn't expect me not to want children aye? And Zuella is so perfect for me." He was her soul mate and she his and that was that.

That was indeed a lot to process. Well at least she had more than taken to the love of her brother. "You have a son? Why didn't you bring him?" She would have loved to meet the son of her best friend. She cared not a hoot that his woman was a bug lady so long as she loved him and if her prayers to Aisha had worked from what Sae understood their love was more than real. "And his Mama, bring her too." She wanted to meet them both. Kellye's place on the ranch was out of the way and she wouldn't have bumped into them easily as her home was also out of the way but on a much further part of the ranch. It took up quite a bit of space and housed quite a few people. The ninyelts seemed to collect people just as much as critters to a certain extent. Though Kellye was an addition she herself had requested.
"Where are they now pray tell?"

Well he had thought she would be more upset but as per usual she seemed to just sidestep the regular social norms. Well it was a close bond they had from childhood. Loosing your parents tended to make you want to bond with someone desperately and she was more like a sister to him than a simple friend. "They are back home in our house, I expect they will come for a visit soon though, because it had been so long I was worried you would be more upset but I see my fears were unfounded." He was so glad and scarfed his tea, immediately handing her his cup because you were not supposed to read your own tea leaves.
"He is a strong kid, its hard to get him out of the trees, especially when there is a storm going on, kid is going to get himself barbequed one day despite our best efforts to the contrary." He sighed. Thoraka was strong willed and a handful, but Kellye could not be more proud of him.

"Well I hope you do bring them by some time. It does indeed seem like a lot has gone on for you, Kellye, that was a whirlwind of information." She grinned. "Congratulations, welcome to parenthood, are you two considering more by any chance?"
She poured them both more tea and they fixed them up before continuing the conversation. Tea was very important in these kinds of things after all.
Once finished she put her cup up to her lips and took a good whiff of the delicious liquid then returned too looking at her friend over the rim of the cup that had been made by one of Ushiwa's sisters, the one that liked pottery, they were very nearly a selfsustained place here with beasts, food, and pottery and a healer it was quite magical. Plus she supposed herself a blacksmith and Viltre the record keeper.

"Well yes, Thoraka is old enough now that we feel confident we could give him a little brother or sister with little issue. We are looking forward to it actually, I think a daughter would be nice, but so would another son, maybe one perhaps a little less spicey." Thor was a lot for a first kid but they were managing he was intelligent which helped just confused with the world, plus all the hormones that tended to show up at prentice age.
"I really do want more..I want a large family, I don't want it to be taken from me again. I hated the lonliness, I don't know what I would have done back then without you and the others. Zuella is the best and I don't think I could have found a better match for me had I tried."
He adored his little family and was only too eager to ask Aisha to bless them again. "I haven't talked to Zuella about it yet but we are thinking about it I assure you."

"I want more too, there is nothing out there quite like the beacon of hope that is a child. I mean we already have four but they are growing up so fast." She took a deep breath and poured a little fermented and distilled liquid in her coffee. "I don't know how to broach the subject, I'm sure Ushiwa would be amenable, he likes big families too I mean look at the family he had. " She gestured at the ranch and its expansive reach each area run by a different sibling or grandchild as the case may be. "I can't explain it but maybe one more round of diapers wouldn't be so bad. I need someone to need me again."
All of her kids were growing like bad weeds and she had no idea how to make it last longer. Kechiri of course for her was a lost cause, she would always be Ushiwa's baby, Ushiruin was hers and they shared the other two equally. Daanu was very interesting to say the least.
