It wasn't often that Ishani found herself without Harlei at her side. Even as they grew, the hybrid preferred spending time with her twin over anyone else, especially when they were passing by a village or city. The larger crowds could get overwhelming, but Harlei had a way of making things easier for Ishani to deal with. Even if it was just making jabs at those around them or reaching out to give her sister a pinch to distract her.
Without her Ishani was tense and fidgety. They were in Zena now, which considering the time of year seemed like a horrible idea, but the job had been too good for her parents to pass up. With them working the chores had to be split up and now Ishani was supposed to pick up supplies.
...Which, would have been fine if she had caught the pickpocker before they started running. She didn't realize until it was too late that a sly hand had snatched her coin purse, but that didn't stop her from taking off after them. "STOP! GIVE IT BACK!" The figure was around her size and covered in a deep green cloak that block any of their features. She needed to cut them off, but with all these buildings she didn't know how to do it!

She was on her way to the store to meet up with her husband, hopefully to convince him to take off early and spend time with her before it got dark. Riya hadn't done so in a while so she couldn't come up with a reason that he'd deny her - unless inventory had yet to be counted and placed. As she turned the corner she was almost plowed into by a youth running. "Watch it." She called after them. A small huff leaving her as she brought her hands up to her hips. Then she heard the yell of another and turned her head to look at them. Well that was no ice child, that's for sure. Iriyana gave the girl an odd look before she turned back toward the one that had almost knocked her over. Looking back at the hybrid she gave a sympathetic look before she pointed to a small alley just up the way. "Through there, you should be able to meet them on the other side." And that was if the one running away didn't ditch somewhere inbetween.

Run. Run. RUN. Ishani's lungs were absolutely burning as she hurriedly inhaled lungfuls of frigid, Zenan air. When she followed the perpetrator around the corner she had to grab onto a nearby torch pole just to keep her footing. One hand was reaching down to her boots where she'd stuffed a knife- -but she didn't get the chance to pull it. The hybrid slowed long enough to listen to the Zenan woman's advice and turn her eyes toward the alleyway. Raising a hand in silent thanks, she dipped down the backway and kept running until she burst out the other side. For a moment there was nothing, giving her a moment to take some much needed breaths, but soon enough that same cloaked figure appeared. Their head was turned back, clearly looking for the figure they though was still chasing them and not the fist coming straight at their skull. With a frustrated scream, Ishani knocked her assailant flat on their back. Instead of taking a chance of them getting up, she dropped down to sit on their chest and pulled the knife to hold at their throat. "You screwed up big time.""I'm...not the only one..." The figure wheeze and with a shaky point they motioned to the four other cloaked figures heading her way.

She watched curiously as the girl took off down the alley, the silent saulte being met with a nod previously, but then curiosity got the better of her. Riya followed the girl to see if she managed to get the culprit. As she emerged from the alleyway she saw the girl sitting on top of the cloaked one but did notice that they were pointing. So she looked down the way at what they were drawing attention to. More cloaked figures. Well now that wasn't fair. One girl against them all? Riya looked around and noticed that no one else seemed interested in helping the girl. They were either snubbing their nose up at the whole incident or standing and staring with wide eyes like it was some scandal. She shook her head and moved up to stand just a little behind the girl as she handled whatever business she was doing and grabbed her bow from off her shoulder. It was a good thing she had wanted to go for a small hint after visiting her husband. Without a word she grabbed an arrow and put it into place before drawing back and taking aim at those coming closer. She waited with a brow drawn up to see if they heeded the silent warning or not.

"Just hand over the gold, sweetheart, it's not worth losing an eye over." One of the figures had been moving closer than the rest, a hand moving toward the sword at their side when the Zenan's presence caused them to stall. "I hope you're a quick shot. You're outnumbered and in a tight area; how many arrows do you think you can fire before we take you down?" "She just needs to be a good shot and whichever one of you slimy freaks slips past I can take care of." Ishani didn't so much as hesitate to press the blade of her dagger further onto the throat of her assailant. Blood was starting to bubble up around it, dribbling down the attackers throat as they whimpered. She hadn't expected help, but she also didn't expect to be ambushed. "Little aggressive this early, aren't you? Must be that shifter blood. Your kind do better at night, don't they?"

She watched them stall and gave a half smile. "There's four of you. I have enough arrows to put two in each of you." Riya leveled the point of her arrow at the one who spoke and pulled back just an inch more on the string so that it creaked and showed that if she got too tired to hold it the arrow was going flying. "Leave the girl her own gold and carry on elsewhere." She wasn't so sure she wanted to see how good the girl could fight. It would be a very awkward discussion with her parents if she had to take her home with wounds. The comment about the girl's shifter blood made Riya roll her eyes quickly. She really thought her fellow iclings needed to come down from the snows to meet other races. They were a bit too isolated and vain for their own good. "Isn't it you and yours being aggressive this morning? Perhaps you're inbred, that causes outbursts doesn't it?" Oh she was going to be in trouble for that statement later she could tell.

"Technically five." The cloaked leader pointed out with a gesture toward their pinned friend. "He's not much, but he would slow down her down." Loyalty clearly meant nothing to them, but a shot at their own life? Perhaps. Ishani watched as the figure slowly raised their hands, palms out, and took a half step back. "Inbred? Well, maybe if my parents were related to yours." When he lifted his head his bright, Zenan eyes shined through an Oban's dark skin and flecks of fire red hair fell out. In the same half-step bubbles of flame came up around his feet and the order was given. "Take them out."The body beneath Ishani bucked, trying to break her hold, but instead of going for a stab at their throat the hybrid brought her head down onto theirs. The attacker didn't move after that; just let out a grunt and fell down onto the cobbles. Now they just had to worry about four attackers, one being a mage, and her not having a decent weapon! Ah well, didn't matter; her knife would work fine.

Well that was interesting. He was a mage. An apparently a mix of fire and ice. Riya gave a soft snort as the old saying 'opposites attract' came to mind. She paid little attention to how the girl took out the one on the ground as the adjusted her aim tot eh mage's thigh and released the arrow. Without waiting to see if it hit she grabbed two more arrows from her quiver and brought them forward. Her eyes went to one of the other cloaked figures as she positioned her arrows. One was put into place while the other was tucked under her fingers and waited to be loaded. It was a trick she'd learned for a quick redraw but it did require space for the archer. Luckily she wasn't in a tree and had plenty of it. Riya once more took aim at the thigh of the cloaked figure and narrowed her eyes. "Is gold truly worth a hole in your body?" While piercings were nice she didn't think they wanted one so large.

Two cloaked figures moved in a half circle around the pair. One pulled a loaded crossbow out from under their cloak, while the other raised a weapon Ishani had never seen before. It looked like a stick of metal ontop of a small plant of wood, but the metal itself was hollowed out. She was too focused on their latest attackers to notice that Iriyana's initial attack had landed in the mage's thigh, causing him to bite his tongue and send a rush of fire their way. Ishani dipped to the side, doing her best to avoid getting hit, but unfortunately that put her right into the sight of the crossbow. Before she could even think to move they fired and the bolt lodged itself into her shoulder. Her body was so full of adrenaline in that moment that panic didn't keep her down for long and with what reach she had Ishani stabbed her assailant in the calf.

She hadn’t really expected her arrow to hit, thinking the mage would move out of the way, so when he sent fire their way she was a bit slow in moving since she was stunned at his stupidity. The result was that her long coat was singed along with a bit of her hair. Hopefully Ergon wouldn’t notice that. Once she was out of the way she took aim at the mage again and released the arrow she had at the ready, this time aiming for his shoulder. Before she could see if that landed she brought the second arrow in her hand over to the bow and pulled back on the string to point it at the other cloaked figure that had been circling. She had to force herself to ignore the sound of a thud that sounded much like a weapon piercing through skin. Riya prayed it was the mage that got hit.

The second figure that had circled the pair dipped down and while Ishani's first instant was to strike out with her blade theirs was to dodge. They dug their fingers into their fallen breathen's cloak and pulled hard to get them out of combat before looping their arms under the others. For a moment she just looked at them before noting the second of the attackers edging around the Zenan woman toward them. While she could see a blade at their hip they never moved to unsheath it. Instead, they moved around enough to grab the unconscious one's legs and lift them up. They made sure Ishani's gold was on the ground, even going so far as to kick it toward her. As for the mage, he raised a hand and a spray of fire saved his shoulder from Iriyana's attack. While he looked more than ready to keep attacking, his cohorts had made their plan clear and he could only grit his teeth. "What are you doing?! Kill them!"
"For what?" The pair holding the unconscious one looked at each other. "We're getting out of here."

She followed the cloaked figure with the arrow, watching them closely. Riya didn't release the projectile as they moved to pick up their fallen. When she didn't sense a threat from them any farther she turned her weapon back toward the mage as he yelled for the others to kill them. She slow raised a single brow. Somehow she doubted murder was in their plans. "At least they have brains." She had to snort a bit at that. Perhaps they should have found them much sooner. "Is your brain working yet? Or did you want another body piercing?" She prayed he saw reason and left. Iriyana really didn't want to loose another arrow. She already would need to explain why she'd sent two at someone. Not to mention she wanted to check on the girl she was helping.

First the mage looked at the Zenan woman, then Ishani and finally at his 'companions' before biting out a curse. Everything in his stance reminded Ishani of any other predator that had been backed into a corner and she prepared herself for another strike. Instead, he ground his teeth and turned to flee with the others. She doubted this would be the last she'd see of them, but now as the adrenaline was starting to fade the pain in her shoulder was more evident. The teen reached for her satchel of gold, passively attached it to her side and carefully rose to her full height with a tense expression. This was not going to be easy to explain away. Still, her eyes went from the crossbow to the Zenan. "You didn't have to follow me, but...thanks."

She waited patiently for the mage to make his decision and when it seemed he took the smarter choice she relaxed. Her bow was less taut and eventually she removed the arrow so there was no accidental fire due to tired fingers. Riya let out a sigh before she shook her head slightly. It wasn't usual to have a band of thieves like that around. She'd have to mention it to Ergon so he kept an eye out on his way home. The Zenan turned to look at the girl and gave a sympathetic look when she noticed that her shoulder was injured. "I hadn't intended to get involved but I'm glad I followed you." She lifted the hand with the bow in it and pointed with the bow tip toward Ishani's shoulder. "You should get that looked at. Want me to take you to the healer or uh... get your parents?" Did she have parents? It was clear that the girl had no Zenan descent in her at all so she was curious as to what brought her to the mountain.

A healer? Furrowing her brow, Ishani looked at the pouch at her side and with her good arm picked at it until it opened. There was a little wiggle room around the funds needed for supplies, but she was loathe to use it. She'd hoped to get some new boots since hers were starting to get tight or a thicker cloak. With a grumble she synced it closed. "No parents." And, after realizing the way she'd said it, Ishani shook her head. "I'd rather see a healer first before explaining this to them." She could only imagine that seeing her bandaged would be better than having a bolt in her shoulder. "If you can just point out the way I can handle it from there. You've done more than enough."
