Prompt 14 - Plight of the Penguin
Had anyone told Glen he would be spending christmas corralling penguins who kept following him like ducklings, he...well, he's not sure. Was that actually a problem? He did like penguins ever since he was little, and that really didn't sound like a problem. Which was great, because that was exactly what was happening. How did it happen you wonder? Well, Glen himself wasn't sure, he had heard on the news about the large group of penguins that had just, rolled into town, which was against how penguins worked but hey, it was Destiny City, and he did fight a weird spaghetti monster last week so... Well anyway, he was curious, if not a bit excited because hello, penguins in his area, that he could see, maybe pick up (Okay, so Glen maybe loved penguins, screw it, his fear of dogs had been (un)healthily revived in October thank you, he could be excited for the birds.) Perhaps even...hug them? ...Maybe not, they might bite him with their little beaks. He brushed these thoughts aside, going out the next day on the hunt for ingredients for his next video he had planned before taking a holiday break (christmas desserts as gifts, what to buy to contain them that would last past the dish, an excuse for cute little jars basically) On his first stop, he was taken aback, there really were penguins apparently, and he had just ran into a group of five, staring at him in various degrees of cute and creepy in the shortest ones case. He coughed, nervous. "Are...are you lost little guys?" They continued staring, and he just went into the store, ignoring it as best he could. Recording his finding the best quality long term jars and containers and little bobs and baubles to decorate them, planning to add the audio in editting. He exited the store, satisfied, walking off until he heard a weird chirp. Looking back, he noticed the group of penguins had increased by ten...wait ten!? "Did you guys find your friends?" He asked them, not expecting an answer but staying his distance. One chirped, and in unison they continued to stare. He was torn at this point to approach them or leave, and in the end decided to leave because he still had another two stores to go, and pointedly ignored the little shuffle of flippers on the grounf.
A few hours later, and ignoring everyone looking or backing up, Glen determined he couldn't really ignore them anymore, considering the group was now at fifty, and had chased everyone around away. He ended up buying some cans of tuna, and a few cuts of salmon, and headed to the park with his load. He could no longer ignore his cute little problem anymore, so he was gonna just embrace it. Sure, they were a bit more creepy than cute, but Glen loved him. He happily sat in the park the remainder of the day, feeding his party of fifty flightlress birds as much fish as he could. He was sure to run away when they were distracted though.
