The training with Lorcan was not what one would expect, being that he should be taking him out to drain energy or harvest starseeds, rather it was sitting down in front of the others chessboard and drawing his socks up and under himself. He didn’t ever sit in a chair properly, he couldn’t, his feet never touched the floor because he was too small for most chairs and couches. The only time his feet touched the ground was if he was sitting at the edge of said chair, or couch, and then he wasn’t so comfortable. So he always sat like this, as mannerless as it may be, before he needed the height.
“You said you wanted a game of chess and to talk?” He questioned, already figuring the other had questions, or wanted information, perhaps a bit of both.
Looking over the board he eyed his cousin calmly. “Black or white for you? I’ll set the board while you say what you want, or ask the first question.” Giving the other time, while he set the board, to work out what he wanted to say first. He knew there would be questions, a lot of them likely, and some would no doubt be personal. He’d been hiding so much for so long there would no doubt be questions from the other about those things, about what he’d hidden from his family.

Right on time and ready to go it seemed, he was glad that they kept to his schedule as he knew most felt fine showing up early or late. “Of course, I enjoy learning new things while working with my hands. I also haven’t been able to get to the park much on the weekends as I make time for my patrols so this can help me keep up on my chess playing.” It had been a trade-off for now as he got things figured out, he would find the best routes that balanced population while keeping away from the other side as long as he still only had a set of keys to fight with.
“I’ll take white so both my move and question first.” Watching as they set things up, he closed his eyes and thought about the scars he’d seen the other week. “So you say you were thrown through a store window? When was that? The scar looks older than most of the rest.” Placing things in his mental timeline he tapped the chess board as it started to come together. “Was that during one of your absences in high school?”

“Which means I get to suffer defeat after defeat from you.” Which he had already accepted, he knew he wouldn’t win against the other, but he’d deal with it because there was a purpose behind it all. Setting up the board, white for Lorcan and black for himself, he motioned the other to start the game.
Leaning back as the first question came. “I am glad you’ve been managing the patrols and keeping safe.” When he wasn’t with the other to ensure his safety personally, as he doubted most would mess with a General for no reason. Most weren’t going to go after a General unless they happen upon them doing something, like energy gathering, because most didn’t want to get into a fight and get hurt. A shame because in the past that hadn’t been the case as much as it was now.
“I was a Lieutenant so sixteen, it was soon after I joined. I climbed rank fast. I think I took a day off or two. I went to the ER for that and lied…I was jumped by someone.” He’d done his best to tell the truth without saying everything in the ER, it hadn’t been easy at all. The real hard part back then had been hiding things from his parents, especially his father, he’d managed though as he’d had no other choice. He told them the same story and let them believe it, because he didn’t lie ever and what he’d said had been the truth…he had been jumped. He didn’t need to say by who or what though.

“Who knows? You may learn enough to surprise me and win, I have faith in you cousin.” There was always the chance however small. Moving a pawn from C2 to C4, he motioned for them to take their turn as he listened to them talk. “I remember that I had wondered what had happened. Part of me wondered if that really was the whole truth but nobody would have listened to me if I had spoken up. Now you said there was a warehouse fire? I know a few businesses have gone up in flames so I assume that it could be any one of those instances.”
Leaning forward a bit he thought about the size it had been before continuing. “Something fell on you that was burning right? It is too uniform in shape to be something other than a contact burn, not metal though it doesn’t have the same sort of brand effect as hot metal would have and it would look more cauterized.” He was familiar with the differences as cauterizing wounds had to happen from time to time when he had done his rounds in the ER during his residency.

“I was jumped, I hadn’t lied, no one would question it with the people running about the city causing problems. I didn’t get into what they looked like, it was dark and I’d been attacked, I had no need to explain what I was doing either.” It had been easy to omit things and get the hospital staff to go along with things, to not look into it too much, the police wouldn’t have found anything out anyway.
“It was an empty warehouse in the city, no business was harmed that night, it was a General’s plans that fell apart. He listened to a youma and fell for their trick. I fell for his in turn.” And s**t had hit the fan that night in a way he hadn’t thought possible, not till it had happened. “It was burning wood. I tried to get to the General who had caused this all.” Rather than save his own a** he’d tried to help the other, maybe so he could yell at him later. He couldn’t remember all of it, it had been a blur of emotions and it had overwhelmed him that night.
“A corrupt senshi threw me over her shoulder and pulled me out. I didn’t want to leave him behind, what I’d have done I don’t know. He got what he deserved though. For betraying myself and others by giving us wrong information, for not telling us what he was really planning that night. He didn’t tell me he’d gotten the idea from a youma that was smart enough to think for itself…and to feel.” Nothing that could think and feel should be trusted because that meant it had wants as well. Even he knew that well enough. Moving a pawn he settled for a simple move for now, he wasn’t going to try anything with the larger pieces yet.

“I know you can’t lie but still, I can tell when you aren’t telling the whole story. Either way, though I really think you have had a poor choice in who you chose to try and patch you up. At least we can avoid that from now on, an Evans really should get medical treatment equal to their standing.” Laughing just a bit as he watched them move their piece to mirror his own. It was going to be a mirror match it seemed, at least until things started getting a bit more complicated. Nodding as he moved his knight from G1 to H3 he was glad to hear it hadn’t been another clinic or office building.
“Youma, I don’t think you’ve brought those up yet other than mentioning it can happen when tampering with a starseed. What are they, demons or some sort of devil?” More magic which made him sigh a bit as his brow crinkled in annoyance at that fact. “Sounds like they were tempted and fell for it and you followed suit.” It wasn’t said coldly but matter-of-factly as he focused on the board, laying out the possibilities of the next set of moves.
“I still don’t think that I would trust one of those senshi even if they are on the same side, they would have to make a good case for it and even then I would rather have another set of eyes watching them as well. Though I am glad they were able to get you out.” Dots were starting to connect, had that fool been a lover? Something that seemed to come and go for his cousin, not because he’d seen many of them but because he’d noticed the change in appearances or mood. They’d grown up together and it was harder for them to hide things from him, even if he said nothing about it most times. Thinking of it now, he probably should have spoken up sooner. It wasn’t normally how he conducted himself, keeping things that bothered him quiet. There was just that level of peacekeeping he had to keep up in social events, it was a bother but he played the part when he needed to and enjoyed his peace at home or work when he could.

Laughing at his cousin's words he shook his head slowly. Somehow he wasn’t surprised to hear those words, which to most would sound so stuck up and arrogant. But they were expected and true for the most part, though he did trust Tom to handle his care as well. He suspected Lorcan would doubt Tom till he met him and spoke with him, it was a very typical thing for his cousin. The man was confident in his skills, for good reason, and questioned most others and he supposed it was rightfully so that he did as such.
“Youma are..” Searching for the words as he settled into his seat as much as he could, slumping down a bit even, as he decided he might just need a full explanation of things. This was likely going to get very long and winded but was the best option, especially for someone who liked to know everything.
“So, I mentioned civilizations in space, and a moon kingdom, last time. That was true, somehow magic keeps people from seeing such when we explore space and go to the moon. There was a kingdom there…a queen and her daughter - civilians. It was what you’d expect but add in magic. The planets in this solar system were part of the court, I’m unsure on the other stars and asteroids and such in this solar system. I assume some were and others were not. That really matters little. The point is that the Moon’s princess fell in love with Earth’s prince and the Moon’s Queen wanted this to be…because she could rule Earth as well. That was where civilians on Earth stepped in and fought back against it. The fighting got to the point that the Moon’s Queen unleashed her power, all of it, on the Earth’s people who were fighting her. It shattered starseeds and they became youma. The first youma were those who fought for this planet…who fought against us being made into subjects of an outside planet and its people. Youma can take many forms and have some skills and abilities, from spitting acid to turning into smoke or vapor. Some are smart enough to communicate and speak…they can think and form opinions. Others are nothing more than a wild beast that can perhaps be tamed, or trained. They can bond to use, one per officer, and will take our orders. Others may take our orders but won’t bond to us.” He was without a youma, and had been for some time, he wasn’t looking for a new one either. Not after Bazzite.
“You could, right now, power up and go make a civilian into a youma for yourself. You could grasp their starseed and while it’s in their chest you can break it by trying to push too much power into it and overloading it. I’ve done it…” He hadn’t known it would happen and it still hurt that he’d done it without meaning to, and to an officer no less. Bazzite was an idiot who was weak but he was an officer and he was an innocent. He was loyal as well - too loyal. He didn’t belong in this war. He was somehow an officer though and should have been kept safe and away from where he didn’t belong, which was nearly everywhere.
He could still remember the other in his arms crying over the fact he was expected to kill, or thought he was, and how he couldn’t do it. He was too damn innocent and Alexandre’s hands were far too blood stained. It was like opposite sides of the same coin and yet they got along as well as they could, when the other wasn’t running around and stealing his cape. One was innocent and the other a far cry from it by that point, he had formed a liking for killing, and the other cried over the idea of it.
“And yes, Bischofite trusted a youma and I trusted him. I went by what he told me, I didn’t question it, he was a fellow officer who needed help with a plan of his. It sounded good, from what he’d said, had I known the real plan and where he’d gotten the idea from.” He would have questioned it, he wouldn’t have followed. He would have liked to say those things but how true was it back then? Now? Yes. But then…maybe not. He would have questioned it but would he have refused to help? That was where he doubted himself, a doubt which he knew crept into his voice even as he moved his next piece across the board.
“Now though, were he to return from the dead, I’d bury him myself for all that he did. For the lies and the truth behind it all.” Were he able to turn back time and undo powering him up ever - he would have. He’d leave Alois to live the life of a normal civilian…one unaware of what was going on in this city. He would not give him the power to join in on things, to protect himself, because the other liked to tinker with others too much. To test their morals in ways no one else had back then and no one was now. The insults he’d taken from the other and not said a word about, that he had even agreed with at times, he had been weak then and he knew it. Bazzite had been a weakness and they were gone…another who had betray him but at least he could understand that.
“I can understand your opinion on the corrupt senshi, others share that opinion, I see it as a need and if they are willing to fight for us…to fight against their nature and their past. I’ll accept it.” He would find that youma didn’t like corrupt senshi either, nor did they like corrupt mauvians, his cousin might like the youma more because of that. Looking at the pawn he’d moved he hoped he could drag this out, he didn’t want to risk larger pieces against Lorcan just yet. He knew the sooner he risked them the sooner they’d vanish from the board.
"How youma were formed, about the wars origins, I was told this when I first joined. I don't know how many are told it now, if any, it's not that helpful really for most. I doubt most care for the history - they are in this for the fighting and the currant war." Shrugging a bit as he tucked his feet up under himself, so he had a bit better height.

Tapping his fingers against the table beside the board, he listened as Alexandre wove a wild tale. If he hadn't seen some aspects of magic and things the other night, he might have thought they were suffering from delusions brought on by an infection in their wound. "So these monsters, when they are bonded does that prevent them from disobeying? Or are they still able to mislead those they are bonded to?"
The tapping stopped for a moment as how they were created came up. "Interesting... so those starseeds, when shattered inside, can corrupt a person's form and remake them?" He could tell it was a touchy subject with his cousin though, that perhaps when they had made one it wasn't intended. "How much can a star seed take, before it breaks?" Half saying it rhetorically, wondering if there was a way to test the limits of those things. He still didn't quite like the idea of magic but if it could be put to use, maybe a bit at a time, he could dip his toes into it.
With the opening his cousin made, he moved his bishop over to take advantage of their mostly boxed-in king. "Check." Sitting back up from the board to look over the options they had, he could tell that it would still be a short match. It was easy, boringly so, to beat his cousin in chess. At least it gave him a bit of information back and forth, which he could appreciate.
"You take too many risks, dear cousin. Maybe if I find one of those senshi that has a strong enough leash on them I may change my mind. Though with all this history I can see how those who may be more grounded in science or reality might not be as inclined to believe a stranger. If I didn't know you so well, I would have thought you were part of a cult or something of that vein. Different reasons for different people, I suppose though. It may be easier to pull those in who already believe in things like that, drawing moths to a flame."

"I would say yes, but I cannot be certain on it. I'm sure there will always be some exception to the rules, especially since we are dealing with magic. However, if I orer a youma it will obey me...unless someone who out ranks me gives it a different order. Things are militeristic in the Negaverse - unlike order. Order, as much as it's called order totally lacks it. They are broken into factions, who they support and don't, they are fractured." Which made them easy to deal with, made them easy to turn against each other, it also left it easy to find the weakones and corrupt them. He just didn't care for that all that much, not anymore at least.
"I'm unsure how much it can take. But I know if I were to try and promote you, on my own, you'd wind up with a shattering starseed.I may have the power but not the control needed to promote. A general king or general queen is needed for that. They posess what I do not."
Reaching for the drink he had the ashen blond took a slow sip, weighing his words and planning what to say next. "There was a new host, for one of the local chanels, I believe he made his own youma. So it can be done - you could make one yourself. But you won't have any say on what form it takes, it's random."
Laughing he nodded his head, eyes bright and clear, as he leaned over the board to move a pawn in the way. He already knew he was screwed, he could see it even as he moved. "Oh trust me, I understand. I was recruited by a General King, Zinkenite, he caught me painting a youma I'd seen attacking a person. I didn't understand what I'd seen at the time but he did, of course, and offered me the chance to fight and learn. I took it. I have however seen a member, who changed sides, who believed in ufo's and aliens - they should have had a tin foil hat. They joined for an obvious reason - fight the aliens because we were being invaded." Rolling his eyes as he spoke. He also could remember Bazzite and alien ninja's being screamed in his ear while the other ran past with his cape. A tin foil hat wouldn't help Bazzite...he wasn't paranoid just...a lot.
"It also is easy to pull in those with a certain....violent streak. Though perhaps it would surprise you to know that two other members you have likely crossed paths with already." Trailing off as he smiled up at his cousin, a gleam in his darker blue eyes.

"I see, I guess I'll have to watch everything carefully. There is comfort in organization so I think that suits me quite well." Lorcan moved his knight forward to box the other in again. "Check and maybe mate."
"So there are those higher up I would report to or do they mostly have a hands-off approach and step in for upgrading with the management of lower ranks being handled by Generals?" It seemed an efficient way to manage a large force while also keeping tabs on individuals and dosing out power as needed. By allowing some to bring anyone in but only those that have earned a promotion or power upgrade in the eyes of someone would be able to move forward.
"Oh, so there are actual nut jobs brought into the fold?" Sighing as he dragged his hand down his face. "It's to be expected with anything I guess... though if they are senshi it really doesn't help with my view on them either. From the scars I saw I would have to guess you fall into the ones with the violent streak category, right?" Thinking over the various scars he'd seen as well as the wound they'd had him patch up. "Though I would say the bite marks you have probably are from a violent streak of another kind." Speaking flatly as he narrowed his eyes at his cousin. He'd noticed them the other day but was too busy with the wound and other scars to bring it up. It meant they were involved with someone again, whether or not it was a permanent thing was yet to be seen though.
Tilting his head a bit, Lorcan wondered if maybe there were other Evans that Alexandre had pulled in. The family was large enough that it was possible. "Oh, have I met them? Are they family?"

"You've always prefered order and organization. Not to say I don't but not as much as you do." Making a vague sort of gesture about the others home. His own was vastly different from Lorcan's home, which showed his cousins personality so well.
"Some are hands off while others tend to be more involved. Zinkenite used to be very involved, had my back when I got tag teamed by three or four senshi in a fight. But he's been absent for a while. One of the other General King's works for the government, he can help make new identification, and likes to bring baked goods to meeting. Another I know owns and runs Ramon's - that somewhat new school in the city. I can't speak much on the General Queen we have...I don't know her - Hessinite. I knew the youma Queen we had - Tanzanite but she's gone missing somewhere...she was a General Queen who was part youma. She was hands on as well. So it varries." It always had though most were more hands off it seemed...but he went directly to the Queen when he needed things, at least most of the time, he rarely dealt with the General King's and General Queen's of the Negaverse. Perhaps because their Queen had once been a General Queen herself? And he'd dealt with her then so it just continued on?
"That aside you would report to whomever you follow, a General. You wouldn't likely need someone higher up unless it's some sort of plan which would nee their backing, be it financial or otherwise, like I'm working on. You could get lucky, or unlucky, and have one seek you out for something as well though." Shrugging as he spoke and tilted his head a bit.
"Mmmm, I'd say both sides likely have there share of nuts and fanatics...but yes, they exsist. I'd even say some nuts are a good thing....they just need tgo be guided properly. It depends on how fanatical they are and just what their beliefs are. I'm sure you know how easily some people can be manipulated."
Looking down at himself he nodded his head. "Yeah, you saw the marks from some of those violent encounters. I don't mind playing mind games, I used to enjoy it more, but I've taken to the opinion that order needs to die...let someone else convert them if they are worthy of it." He wasn't going to bother with it, he just wanted them dead. "Wa-bite marks..s**t." He really hadn't realized they would show, he'd thought he was well covered even sitting here without a coat to bundle himself in. "Y-yeah...they are. Not someone you know cousin, I can assure you of that. Also, a nice, safe, civilian."
Not wanting to get into who he was bedding, though he also was certain his cousin wouldn't want to probe too deeply into such aspects of his life, he was quick in changing the topic in the hopes of assuring his cousin didn't question more on Rene. "You got the same notice from grandmother, a few months back, that everyone else did. Everyone school age, high school and lower, would be switching to home schooling in order to protect them and keep them safe. I personally suggested the Sharp siblings to teach music. They are prominate and easy to find out information on, at least for our family, bu ttheir family history with music also lent itself well to our need. However, the elder of the two is a general, he's served as long as I have. The sister is new and a corrupt senshi." She was also looking to marry into their family and not for love but rather for the name and power, he did wonder if Lorcan knew that part.

"You're not wrong, I've also seen your home." Grabbing his cup, he sipped at his tea while they explained. Romano's, he'd heard of that school from a patient but other than that it seemed like everyone had their own niche or role to play in things.
"I guess with a firm enough hand anyone can be made into a good soldier, even if they don't have the mind for it otherwise. It still seems a bit risky but, people can indeed be pulled towards a goal with enough leading." There were certainly enough people in the city who attended the university or visited that could be pulled into everything. Maybe it would be a good idea to look over his patients as options as well one day.
Rolling his eyes at Alexandre, Lorcan sighed. "It wouldn't happen to be that so and so you had our family digging up paperwork for, is it? You were late to the holiday gathering so it wasn't too hard for me to figure you were up to something." Judging them carefully as he spoke, he leaned back in his chair. "I would hope you aren't taking extra risks on that front but from the marks I saw I'd have to say you see them pretty often. I noticed them the other day as well."
He knew they were deflecting, trying to avoid the topic but he had to put his two cents in here. Though the mention of the letter and the fact that the two music tutors were also on the side of chaos, made him pause for a moment.
"The tall one with the breathing trouble? Him, a general? The poor man seems like he would drop dead if he ran too hard. The sister I really haven't formed as much of an opinion on, though I guess if they are close enough to keep an eye on then maybe I can see how things go with them being a senshi." It didn't make sense to him, pulling in those with poor health.

"i know you have, I think it suits me nicely." Alexandre liked his home, even with all the antique silver candle holders he had. He had more of them than he needed but he honestly just loved them, some were so detailed and fancy, not to mention he had a love for candles so they went hand in hand really.
"Indeed, it's a matter of which tactics work for which recruits. I don't like to grab those with families, though some have decided to start families, as I've found the balancing act between both lives to be impossible. Not to mention they aren't as likely to take risks. If their partner is one of us as well...it can bring other issues with it." Such as one jumping in the way to protect the other and getting them both hurt, and other things of a similar nature. This, what he had with Rene, was easier and simpler. It was safer for them both, but especially himself.
"I don't see myself as taking risks, trust me I'm not into anything which would be considered risky." He didn't admit to who he was bedding, he couldn't because he didn't lie, but he wasn't going to tell Lorcan for certain either. "W-wait...when did you see Rene?"
Laughing he shook his head. "Aloysius developed that problem over years, it was not always the case, he was also a bit more like myself back then...more deadly. Not as much now but I still wouldn't get in his way, his weapon is far more ranged than my own and I doubt he misses, not with the years of practice he's had. But yes, he is a General and his sister isn't close with him, not as far as I can tell, what our family sees is an act. She is however more ruthless if you ask me. Her magic...I haven't suffered under it yet but knowing what I do...I would say anyone fighting her had better have noise canceling headphones and migraine medication." THough what that medication was he didn't know, he'd leave that to his cousin.
"Cacophoney is her sphere..." So lots of noise....and loud.

"Smart, at least in part. However, I would assume that juggling all that makes things difficult. It's why have avoided the whole situation while managing my work. I guess that will continue on into my work for the Negaverse, not that I mind."
A sly smile crossed his face as they confirmed his questioning. "I haven't but thank you for giving me their name, dear cousin." He'd see what he could dig up about them other than the scant information he had heard through the family grapevine. It was a bit fun to play chess off the board as well, especially since he knew they wouldn't lie.
"I see... so years of smoking I would assume, from the stains on his fingers I see sometimes. I guess if they are long-ranged then running isn't as much of a factor either." The rest was sort of a given, he'd noticed a bit of abrasiveness between the two but it wasn't really something that mattered to him much.
"Oh, that's unpleasant. Damage to the ears can cause balance issues, I would rather avoid that if possible. No amount of medication can fix damage like that though if it's magic I wonder if it lingers afterwards."
Standing up from the table, he started to pick up the pieces from the board to put them away. "I think there is time for a bit more chatting and then I need to prepare for bed. I have work in the morning and it is quite busy due to the lingering flu season. Next time we meet, I think I would be up for a more hands-on approach to things if you have the time for that?"

"No, I don't see you minding that at all. I don't think you've ever mentioned wanting a family of your own...just our family." The one big family they both belonged to, as well as the Cosgrove's for Lorcan. Meanwhile Alexandre was trying to chase some version of a personal family for himself, something small and witu no children.
s**t, silently cursing himself and than his cousin, Alexandre did consider being childish and throwing a chess piece at the other. He didn't though...because Lorcan might just be offended at him abusing his poor, and totally innocent, chess set and not help him the next time he got hurt.
"If it wouldn't cause a scandle, or she could cover it up, she might just bury her brother...possibly litterally. I don't think she'd get her hands as dirty as either of us...but she might come close as well. But yes, smoking...a nasty habit I think he picked up from someone we both knew for a time - someone who stopped being useful when they started listening to those they should have ignored. I'm not bothered by it though...if they were to come back from the grave I'd simply return them to it." And in a rather slow and unpleasent manner, he might enjoy it a bit too much. He had a bit of pent up feelings in that area, and as much as he'd repressed them he was certain they might just come out if they were to return somehow.
