Quote: Prompt 11 (Burning Bright): This time of year there are candles popping up in just about every shop selling anything. Maybe you stopped by one of these shops yourself, or maybe a friend wanted to get you a thoughtful gift, but somehow you’ve come into possession of a pair of candles. They don’t seem to be anything spectacular upon first glance; they are pretty and well made and have a pleasant fragrance. They would be pretty decor on their own, but once you light them, they really shine. Nonstop. For twenty four hours. No matter what you do, you cannot put the flame out. No wind, no water, no fire extinguisher–nothing–will extinguish the flame. You just have to wait until it burns itself out. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem very flammable so you don’t have to worry about other things catching on fire in the meantime. Wherever you keep the candle will have a pleasant smell for several days after the flame extinguishes.

Embly had bought a candle she couldn't even remember where she had bought it, it was likely from a craft fair or something and she had brought it home thinking that it would be pretty this time of year considering the holiday. The strange thing was once she lit it she couldn't get it to turn off. She started with trying to blow the candle out and she spent hours trying to do this thinking perhaps it was a trick candle of some sort like from a birthday cake. She ran out of breath quickly enough. She frowned at the candle her weapon was a lamp so you would think she would know how to deal with flames. That did not seem to be the case in this situation.
She then tipped the candle over and looked for a compartment thinking perhaps it had oil that was keeping it lit and that was the reason she couldn't blow it out. She frowned shaking her head when she only found it to be a wax candle it had a nice smell and really there would be no harm in letting it burn down on its own how long could it really last? She asked herself. She decided to ignore the candle for a little while and go bake some cookies.
She went into the kitchen and started pouring the flour and mixing in the sugar and butter and eggs and then she baked the cookies making a few batches and baking them all. She packed them up to deliver to places to give Christmas cookies each year. To her shock when she went to check on the candle again it was still burning after all this time. It was getting late and she didn't want to leave it burning when she went to bed so she took the candle to the kitchen and ran the wick underwater only to find out that didn't work either. She blinked in shock what kind of candle could stay lit when wet? She sighed and left the brightly burning candle in the sink where it couldn't do any harm the magic couldn't last forever it would have to burn itself out sooner or later.
She went up to bed and hoped no one in the neighborhood complained about the light, hopefully, they would only think it was an over-done Christmas decoration. Which sorta what it was or what it was meant to be. At least the house was large enough that once she was in her room she couldn't see the light from her room. If she lived in a smaller house it would have been a nightmare. As it was it would be a bad idea to go to the kitchen for a glass of water and have her night vision blinded. She sighed as she laid down in her bed the candle would just have to be a problem for another day if it decided to keep on burning any longer than the morning.
