Logic puzzles -- from syllogisms to Sudoku, you name it, if it requires tricksy thinking to solve, Andy is all over it. One can often spot him between classes parked somewhere on campus with a puzzle book and a pen (yes, he's cocky enough to work puzzles in pen), lost in chasing down an elusive solution. He also enjoys his calculus and algebra classes and likes working out complicated equations for fun. Dork? Nerd? You betcha.
Ballet -- no, really. Andy has taken ballet lessons since age 6, and is rather good at it, as one might imagine after so many years. He loves ballet for its athleticism, emotion and beauty; strong and graceful, he's deeply confident in his dancing ability, and aspires to someday join a premiere ballet company and tour the world, dancing a principal role in all his favorites. Such an ambitious goal leaves him little time for other hobbies, as he studies and trains almost every waking hour when he's not in school. Ballet is one of the few things he doesn't slack off on.
Virtues:
Clever -- Andy is quick-witted and more clever than outright intelligent, really. His thoughts are constantly in motion; he's an expert in looking at things from a different angle than most other people and coming up with unusual -- but effective -- solutions to problems and situations. This is not to say he's a moron -- his native intelligences are just very specific. There are quite a number of areas where he's astoundingly stupid. (Romance, for one.)
Athletic -- thanks to ballet, Andy is not the scrawny emo-nerd he appears to be on the surface. Ballet has made him something of a physical adept; he's strong, agile, flexible, and quick on his feet. He doesn't flaunt it, though, preferring to play up the nerd-boy image his wardrobe choices present to the world. It's much more fun to pull off some unexpected physical feat and have onlookers blink in confusion at having their preconceptions about him shattered.
Fierce -- again, appearances deceive. A tiger in nerd's clothing, Andy is surprisingly forceful in personality, and completely fearless. Once he is presented with something he wants to achieve -- a puzzle to solve, a rival to defeat -- he sinks his teeth into it and goes after it with astonishing aggression until he wins. Andy thwarts his normal quicksilver temperament and becomes laser-focused and unrelenting in pursuit of his goals.
Flaws:
Slacker -- the flipside of Andy's cleverness. Too clever for his own good, he'll often put more effort into finding a way to avoid doing something than he would if he just did it (ballet being the notable exception). Andy isn't really lazy -- he's mostly just unmotivated, because so many things simply pose no challenge to him. His basic philosophy is, "Work smarter, not harder, and if at all possible, don't work at all."
Skeptical -- yeah, right, he'll believe it when he sees it and you present a 20-page paper to prove it. Andy's logical mind won't let him accept the fantastical or paradoxical on blind faith. He requires evidence; just telling him a thing is insufficient. It's even worse when he personally experiences the unexplainable. Can you say Captain Overanalysis? He'll twist himself into knots trying to explain it to himself.
Mercurial -- "like quicksilver" is the best way to describe the way Andy typically interfaces with the world. King of the wild mood-swing, he can be Mr Bouncy one moment and a rabid mongoose the next. (Oddly enough, "emo" is not in his mood-swing repertoire.) He has a bitey temper, snarky and vicious; luckily, he's not prone to fistfights (meaning he won't start one) but can hold his own in a fight if need be.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: deep amber-gold eyes, rather "foxy" in shape, slightly uptilted and hooded; wears black-framed rectangular Velma glasses (except not so heavy-framed)
Hair: bright ginger-orange-red, just past collar length, with heavy emo-boy fringe that hangs in his face, half-hiding it; wears the back tied up most of the time in a doofy (and rather pointless) little demi-ponytail
Face: ovalish face, fairly sharp foxy features; surprisingly few freckles
Skin Tone: classic ginger-pale complexion, #F0DFD6 if not lighter. So pale he practically glows in the dark.
Body Type: 5'10", slim and wiry-muscular like a ballet dancer (which he is)
Clothes: dresses like an emo-nerd-boy -- white short-sleeve shirts over long-sleeve tees in various colors, baggy jeans with frayed hems, Dr Martens boots; wears a chain wallet and a neck scarf almost constantly, though if it gets too warm he'll replace the scarf with a tie; has a pocket protector stuffed with pens and pencils which he actually uses. For ballet training and practice, he wears leotards or plain white tees, tights, and ballet shoes (usually doesn't wear leg warmers, claims they look too doofy); wears whatever costume is required for actual performances; has been known to don a tutu for lulz.
