Zumei was tired, more tired than she had been in years. It was honestly surprising to her the way her limbs argued against her. Dealing with the vryhx had left her beat up, and so she had figured the best way to rest if off was to find herself a good inn or tavern to nap in. Maybe they'd let her sleep in the stables if there wasn't any room inside? The inviting smells hit her first, stomach clenching angrily when she spotted the small building nestled outside the current town. It looked more traveler's way station than actual inn, but she figured it would do.
Wandering into the building the boisterous noises of travelers and adventurers assaulted her ears. A wide grin came across her face, energy hyping her up. Zumei bopped her head along to the music, distractedly sliding into a booth and surprising herself when she bumped against a solid shoulder.
"Ah hells, my bad. Mind me sittin here?" she laughed, turning to look at the person and coming up short.

Cyril wasn't the most excited to be in Yael, but at least they were finally here. The illusionist had taken off on his own to explore the town, returning for a drink at the place he had checked out first so that they could stay there safely for a few nights. Ever since the incident in Sauti with those devil twins, Cyril had been extra precautious about the comfort and security of where he stayed with Selim during their journey. Despite being a bit more boisterous than desired, the place didn't appear to be infested with anything other than your typical travelers with many of the Yaeli who were also there nearly falling backwards at the sight of most foreigners. Pajore had a bigger collection of foreigners so at least it seemed more acceptable for him and Selim to explore while those from more isolated villages who were traveling for trade and the like still balked at the sight of the strange hybrid twins. Which was perfectly acceptable for Cyril who hated being bothered....such as he was now when he was quietly studying over a map of the area, the parchment at his fingertips with a glass of wine in his other hand before sudden impact had the liquid swishing around the glass and splattering across the table.
Bright green eyes, the color even more piercing against the dark sclera, shot up to meet the foreigner who had bumped into him. Even the startling sight of a Sautian didn't stop his gaze from narrowing with disdain. "My bad? Really?" He repeated with a sigh, shifting to put space between himself and the intruder even if it pressed him up against the wall, the cold wood digging into his arm. "Does it look like I was hoping for company, especially after you nearly ruined my map?" One that he had been diligently studying while trying to circle off any locations he had already visited in the city during their stay there. Now several locations sported deep crimson spots instead, the wine mixing with the charcoal scribbles Cyril had made across the parchment.

"Oh don't be so dramatic, handsome," Zumei said with a wave of her hand, getting comfortable in the seat and peering over at the map the pretty stranger held. She was curious to know what he was so seriously considering, especially given the atmosphere around them. She'd never been good with maps and the detailed scribbles intrigued her as much as the grumpy stranger did. At first she thought he was simply Yaeli, but the pretty green of his eyes made her think a little differently. Zumei thought it very rude to ask just what someone's parentage was, so she figured leaving it be was the best option for now. Instead Zumei did what she always did best and continued to talk to him, his obvious disdain completely lost on her. "I'm Zumei, nice to meet you," she grinned, very gently extending her hand out to him to make sure she didn't spill more on his map. "If you're worried I can buy you another! And help you scribble the notes on them."She wasn't good at art, but it didn't really look artful. More documenting something specific. "Are you looking for something? Like a treasure hunter?"

"Dramatic? Perhaps only against nuisances." Retorted Cyril, a sigh leaving his lips as he realized he was actually wedged in between the stranger and the wall now. His initial reaction to find space away from her had only opened up more of the seating so that she could get comfortable next to him, a horrible mistake on his part. Despite the immediate regret, Cyril was not the type to cause a scene and even with the commotion of the tavern around them the idea of shoving a woman from her seat didn't seem like the best course of action no matter how tempting it was. So he simply tensed up as he endured the unwelcome presence now sitting next to him, the hybrid trying to figure out how to disappear from the table until Zumei mentioned reimbursing him for the map. Even irritated as he was Cyril was frugal and the concept of saving coin was tempting, especially when so much had already been spent on this journey. Still, it didn't give him cause to return the courtesy of a greeting and Cyril simply glanced at the hand before reaching for his wine glass instead. Why bother introductions with someone he surely wouldn't encounter again?
"The map may be salvageable, but my drink was lost." He mused, taking the final sip of the remaining wine that hadn't splattered across the map before eyeing the Sautian. "If you're sitting there and feel any guilt then I would accept a glass of their best wine, if not a bottle." His gaze left Zumei so that he could frown towards the map. "Not exactly, I'm just marking off locations I've already visited." He was looking for someone rather than something, but that information was personal and Cyril was not the type to easily discuss such things.

Zumei looked at the glass and wondered how many days work it would take to earn off their best bottle of wine. It couldn't be that much, could it? She was a pro when it came to odd jobs, and had spent time around Zena working at an inn much like this one some time ago. To her mind all of them worked the same, so surely the work would be simple. She had sizeable earnings from her own fight matches, but preferred to work things off instead of using the gold. Just in case. Zumei waved to the closest of the waitstaff, grinning as a somewhat tired Yaeli wandered warily over to her. "What can I help you with?" she sighed, sidestepping another patron as they bumbled by. "My new friend here wants the best bottle of wine you have. I'll take care of it all," Zumei grinned, poking her thumb against her chest. The woman nodded and scurried off, allowing Zumei to turn back to Cyril and his map. "That's fun. Never thought to do that. Though I just sort of...end up places?" It was a bit of an understatement given her current predicament in Yael. She'd looked for the biggest fight she could find after leaving Sauti behind again, and somehow that had meant coming to the wild lands of Yael. Before that it'd been snatched up by dretch. Anything to get her mind off her troubles even if it meant certain danger. "So not from here then, but you look the type to know their way around. Smart and all that."

She actually ordered it. So much for trying to chase her off with such an unreasonable request. He was irritated but not that irresponsible, right? Cyril closed his eyes for a moment, raising a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose before he watched the server disappear for the best bottle of wine. Since they were foreigners he could only imagine how much more expensive it would be in addition to its normal cost. While he did not know if he could say the same about the stranger next to him, Cyril was no fool. He understood that before others saw his face with his traces of lightning heritage they were more willing to cooperate with him but as soon as he turned around the Yaeli would utter some excuse and scurry away nervously. They would also charge more, as much as they could until he called them out on it. Though in this situation he would much rather have negative reactions than a woman who reminded him of some over eager duruf leaning so close. Dealing with others was more of Selim’s forte, not Cyril’s and so he couldn’t help but to let out another sigh. “It’s not for fun, it’s sensible.” He retorted finally before glancing over at her. “Just sort of end up in places? Do you not have any goals or somewhere to be? It’s not usual to see someone from Sauti just wandering in Yael, out of all places.” Did she not realize how unwelcome foreigners could be in this superstitious country full of dangers? Then again she was sitting right next to him treating him like some familiar face…spirits.
And speaking of which, the server came back with the wine bottle just in time. Before she could open it though, Cyril raised a hand and forced a look of distaste across his features. “That’s the best bottle?” He spoke with disdain as if completely repulsed by the appearance of the deep red wine, the bottle seemingly well kept and everything despite his harsh words. “It doesn’t look that appealing, just bring the house special again. That one I could stomach.” It was a rude way to go about things, but one that saved face as he realized he couldn’t break someone’s wallet without a tinge of guilt. Mostly because he was simply too frugal that he couldn’t even bring himself to drink something like that, especially at someone else’s expense. With his luck she would be broke or something if he did it and somehow that would become his problem, something he did not want. Cyril’s bright green gaze looked over at the Sautian again before he went back to his map as if he hadn’t dismissed the perplexed server who disappeared once more to return the bottle and come back with the much cheaper variety he had previously ordered.
“Being smart does not mean that I will immediately know every path in an area that I’ve never visited before.” Replied Cyril, studying the map again so that his cross and perplexed expression could be somewhat contained as he focused on the markings once more. “I’m seeking something and marking the areas will help me narrow down the options. I do not enjoy wasting time so ending up in various places for no reason would only frustrate me.”

Zumei shook her head, trying to think of any semblance of a goal. Getting stronger? Fighting big creatures? She already did those things so she didn't think of it as a goal but more just her lifestyle. "Oh I came here to fight a vryhx! And have just sort of hung around since then. At least for the moment. Before that I was kidnapped by dretch! And somewhere in between participated in a fight ring!" Avoiding thinking of her feelings had resulted in a wild few months, which had helped in burying all of the unnecessary things. But the place she thought she was going to be just....wasn't an option now. Her expression darkened at the thought before she shoved it away into its little box in the back of her mind, grin spreading over her features once more. "So no, no places to be or goals. Just doing tasks as I find them."Having explained her own lack of goals, Zumei watched curiously as the waitress came and left just as quickly as she was sent away. The man beside her was....odd. Not bad. Just odd. In her attempt to see what was so special about his wine he'd been drinking over the fancy stuff she shifted closer to his side, peering at the bottle. It didn't look as fancy as the other one. "That's a really smart way to go about things! But why'd you send the bottle away? I owed you like you said." She considered calling the woman back over with the fancy bottle again, but also didn't want to annoy her if her seat partner sent it back once more. There had to be a reason for it though? "Was it something about the wine? Or some sort of uh.....not wanting to owe me?"

While Cyril did not know everything about Yael and its flora and fauna, the concept of a vryhx had been mentioned in passing by those who enjoyed telling exciting stories within the tavern. Of course he figured such things were just fantasy, nothing to seriously concern himself with, but hearing it from the Sautian made him frown. Had she been drinking already before joining him? Though she didn't smell like alcohol, at least not like those that had already had a few drinks that he had encountered before. And the dretch on top of it? Cyril had heard about those creatures before taking the ship over to Yael, some of the sailors had been exchanging stories about those creatures and sea monsters to pass the time while they crossed the ocean. Once again though he thought it was just foolishness, a way to gain an audience and to keep things entertaining but nothing more than that.
"Sounds like you've had quite the time." Cyril managed finally, not even bothering to try to call her out on such foolishness. Maybe one story he could potentially consider, but all at once? It made him concerned if she truly believed he would accept such things without either of them being drunk. Perhaps another would have jumped at the chance to find out more about those stories, but he considered it simply a delusion or an effort to attract more attention which he was not interested in giving her. Though a fighting ring...well she did look fairly tough, that much he did acknowledge as he glanced over her and noticed her muscular frame. But why bring in a vryhx and the dretch? He definitely didn't have enough drinks for such stories.
"I know and it would be a waste of coin." Cyril acknowledged as he traced a line across the map, marking his last venture into the market and considering the information he had gotten that potentially could lead him to his missing father. His hand did still though as Zumei showed some hints of intelligence, the callout making him consider things. So she did have an idea about why he had reacted in such a way. Interesting. "You were reimbursing me for a spilled glass, it would only be fair if it was the same type. I didn't expect you to actually follow through with ordering the expensive one. Unless you're somehow drowning in coin I wouldn't want to be stuck washing dishes here with you for days to pay it off." He admitted as the server came back and poured him a glass, the Yaeli woman lingering as she glanced over at Zumei. Letting out a soft sigh, Cyril glanced at Zumei to save the Yaeli some time. "Do you drink? If so may as well grab a glass since you don't seem interested in moving away."

"Yeah! A wild time! Though I'm really only good at fighting so just playing to my strengths, I guess," Zumei shrugged, thumb idly brushing at one of the more severe scars on her arm. She didn't notice the doubting look he gave her, instead her eyes focused on the wine offered. She'd never really had a taste of it, always considered it a bit too fancy for her, but wasn't opposed to trying it. "I always follow through with things, you know. What good is my word if I go back on it?"Zumei leaned over and took her own glass of the wine, sniffing at it while thanking the Yaeli woman for her time. It was different from throwing back a pint after a brawl, and Zumei figured downing it in one go was not the proper way to do it. She chose to take a sip, nose scrunching as the strange flavor hit her tongue. "So I'm not allowed a name, but can I ask other things?" Zumei attempted to start, not really sure how to handle the conversation with the man. He was interesting! But also didn't seem to like talking so much....Maybe it was her?

Well, that was definitely a believable statement. Another may have tried to be more positive about surely there being other skills, but Cyril felt no inclination to offer support towards a stranger. "You do have the appearance of a strong fighter." He acknowledged at least before frowning at the reaction towards his own comment concerning the expensive wine. It could be considered a good trait to always follow through with things, but it bothered him nonetheless that she had tried to do so with his request. "Perhaps giving your word in a more reasonable way instead of agreeing to ridiculous requests would make it easier on you. Surely you wouldn't agree to just anything and everything. Next time replace what was spilled with the same, not upgrade it to the most expensive thing." He advised finally after taking a moment to ponder things and deciding he may as well offer something even if it didn't matter to him, his fingers curling around the stem of the wine glass as he took a sip. He would need something to help him cope with this situation, the prickly hybrid rarely enduring a stranger's company like this.
"Names are only important if you meet again." Protested Cyril with a frown before taking another drink. "Is there something that you really want to ask?" He questioned, raising a brow as he looked over at the Sautian. "If it's for directions then I know very few paths, unless you're looking for the port. I haven't ventured into other towns yet." Honestly, it would be nice if he could just stay within Pajore and find what he could here quickly. After a few mishaps the hybrid was already itching to return to Belrea, picking up traveling with the troupe again and putting this father business behind him. It was just something he had told himself he would resolve, even if the answer wasn't the most pleasant.

"I'd agree to a lot of things - as long as it's fun that is. So a little thing like fancy wine is worth it!" Zumei was very curious about the man and all his talk of reason. To her, it didn't matter if it wasn't the reasonable thing to do. She didn't really follow reason. Whatever was fun, whatever put a smile on someone's face or allowed them to have something nice. She'd do it, generally no questions asked. Zumei had heard his type of words before though. Being told she was reckless or headstrong, not thinking her actions through. Since it rarely got her into trouble she didn't care. And if it did get her into trouble, well, she could always fight them. "Mmmm. Nope. No directions. I find my way around eventually," she admitted, not wanting to go into detail about how she just wandered until she happened upon things. "What do you do for work? You don't look like you fight, or if you do I've never seen you around. So what sort of fun do you get up to?"

A short laugh of disbelief actually escaped Cyril’s lips at the response. “It must be nice to be able to be so whimsical. Unless you have a lot of money that could have kept you here washing dishes for days, you know.” He managed after a moment, his sharp words an attempt to cover up the amused surprise that had gotten him at her energetic attitude. “You must have some luck to keep up like that.” Cyril took another drink of wine, this one a lot more than before as he enjoyed the bitterness of flavor that reflected his own spirit. He would probably need more to balance out the overly positive one next to him, her energy a bit overbearing for someone who rarely saw the glass as half-full rather than half-empty.
Cyril could only shake his head at her antics, raising his now empty glass for a refill from a wandering server and only turning to face the Sautian once he had gotten more wine to drink. “Is that how you came to Yael then? Just happened to keep going all the way across the ocean instead of going home?” He raised a brow, his emerald gaze cold as he looked over the woman. “You’re not on the run from Sauti, are you? If it’s anything dangerous then I’d prefer not to get involved.” The last thing he needed was to interact with a criminal when he already had so much on his mind with his current mission. Or maybe she was simply avoiding something across the ocean, not that it was his business as long as it didn’t get him involved in some trouble by sitting with her like this. He had plenty of troublesome experiences already….the very thought of the inn he had stayed at that stormy night bringing a chill down his spine, even if it was just a pair of children they had caused such a ruckus that night to amuse him plenty enough for the entire trip.
“I prefer to avoid fighting, so you wouldn’t see me in any brawls.” Replied Cyril after another moment, leaving his questions in the air as he decided to at least reply to her inquiries. Maybe she could consider him boring if he didn’t throw punches like she did and some other fighter in the tavern could take her interest soon. Though he could be surprised since his prickly attitude had yet to chase her away, which was something he had relied upon for the most part whenever others tried to approach him. “Fun? I don't have the luxury of just wasting time playing around. As for work? I perform with a troupe in Belrea so at the moment I am simply a traveler going through the area before returning home in the near future.” And hopefully it was the very near future, Cyril's lips pressing into a tight line as he glanced around the tavern and watched as several Yaeli quickly twisted their gazes away from the cursed looking stranger.

Zumei gasped at his statement, growing ever more excited the more she spoke to him. She attempted to calm herself as to not annoy him more than she already had, however she didn't think she was doing too good of a job at it. Every word that came from her felt like it bothered him, but she really did like conversing with the stranger. She wanted to learn about his performing, what he did, how he did it. First thing first, she had to answer some of his questions. It wouldn't do for him to think she was some sort of criminal going around bullying people. She wasn't that type of person! Even if she did enjoy getting into fights. "No, no, I'm not a criminal. Like I told you I was here to fight a big beast! And I did!" Zumei laughed, rubbing at her arm. The scars there were still a bit more fresh compared to some of the other injuries she'd obtained in the past, but she doubted she could point to a claw mark and have him believe her. He didn't seem the type to even consider it. "I typically do more fight ring brawls, but finding big enemies or doing odd jobs is equally as fine." The mention of Belrea did give her slight pause despite trying her best to avoid that portion of his statement. It wasn't that it was bad, but since she'd been avoiding a certain Belrean it felt weird to hear about it. "If you're a performer you must be super talented! What sort of thing do you perform? Are you an actor? Or do you juggle?" Zumei launched into more questions, fighting her negative thoughts with more interesting things.

The longer Cyril sat at this table with the stranger, the more he was couldn't help imagining an overly energetic duruf that never seemed upset with anyone. How was she so ...happy? The very thought made him more exhausted, though his gaze did slide down to follow the motion of the woman rubbing her arm. In his attempt to avoid appearing interested in her, the man hadn't even noticed the scars until this moment. So she truly was a fighter, that much he had believed based on her build but the scars did attest to the fact that she wasn't participating in simple brawls. The main continent truly did have its array of dangers, didn't it? Much more than what he had experienced while living with the troupe in Belrea, where most of the cities had their dangers in the darker alleys that he avoided. Just traveling to any town in Yael though seemed to be a risk, the array of dangerous wildlife and nearby Aishans making Cyril wonder about his decision to come here. "It's still surprising to see a foreigner fighting for Yael, especially considering how warm they are towards outsiders. Hopefully it was worth it." He finally acknowledged, giving her some credit even as he didn't know what to fully believe about her story. Still, he covered up his softening expression with more firm words as he looked away from her and back towards the map on the table. "It's quite the journey for just finding a fight. If you had the skills then perhaps I guess someone could use a guard, if that's what you're seeking." A guard...in the wilderness of Yael. Cyril shook away the thought as if it was something diseased. Money was tight as it was while they were traveling and he could only imagine the headache from a really talkative companion, no matter how skilled she could be at fighting off monsters.
Ah, it appeared he had made a bit of a mistake with his answer. Cyril winced as he realized his response had only encouraged her further and a soft sigh left his lips as he simply raised the glass of wine and took a long drink instead of immediately answering Zumei. "Neither. I'm an illusionist and use fire too, I don't do performances for free." He immediately added, hoping she wouldn't get any ideas from it. She definitely would have fared better with Selim, he probably would have delighted in a woman's attention and giving a performance for more praise. Cyril though would only perform when absolutely necessary, the man doing what he could to keep providing for him and his brother while traveling so that they could keep a roof over their heads at night and eat at taverns in passing. It was rare that he did any fire dancing for anyone, and even rarer that he used magic for entertaining them for free since it took a bit of energy to do so.

Zumei laughed, an almost bark of a sound as she nodded at him. She was growing to enjoy the harsh way the man spoke, his no nonsense attitude refreshing to handle. She liked the honesty over forced politeness, and even if he didn't think the same she still found the encounter to be one of the most exciting things that had happened on Yael. "It's been worth it I'd say. It doesn't matter if people are nice to me or not, if I can help I will. Have to keep my muscles good for something." The only time she had really considered working as a guard was when she was traveling with Howth during his research adventures. Since then she hadn't considered it, instead choosing to throw her entire being into more and more dangerous situations. Her relative disregard for her own life was part of what made her a good fighter, at least she continued to tell herself that. If she were to be a guard again in any way she would have to be more careful than she had been in at least a year or more. "No, I doubt you would do anything for free, handsome. Better to keep those skills hidden to cash in on them, yeah?" Zumei teased, taking a sip of the wine she had been neglecting in exchange for her rapid fire questioning of the man. She grew a bit more serious with her words, concern creasing her brow. "Though being a performer out by yourself is dangerous. For many reasons. Not gonna assume to know how capable you are, but uh....well would be a shame to see you get into a situation you can't handle, handsome."Sabra Knight Sorry for such a delay grad school is truly a time devourer
