Cepheus usually - almost never, if she was going to be honest, and she was usually honest - never powered up alone. But she knew the rules she'd been given by Anakeion: if she felt any aura that wasn't Order, she powered down right then and she ran until she was somewhere with people around. And with Amaris-Anakeion so busy nowadays, there hadn't been any time for the two of them to go out together, which meant no time for Zinnia to be Cepheus, and...
She kind of missed it, alright? She liked feeling cute, and powerful, and special. It was like wearing some sort of special outfit. Which it was, actually, but not really in the way she meant it. So some days she powered up near back lots, near busy places, near malls and shopping centers and that one vegan tea place she really liked, and she stayed safe.
Had someone dropped a nice die on the ground? Zinnia had always liked the opalized wood dice, but they'd always been out of her price range. But as soon as she picked it up --

Where was she? It was... so foggy. Was she on some kind of... sidewalk? Or maybe... the square under her feet, the tiles in front of her, made her think a certain way. A... a board game?
Weird. Destiny City always went above and beyond with weird things, didn't it.
Had she just gotten isekai'd? There was... no way. Even if magic was real, sometimes, in specific and formatted ways, that didn't mean anything else fantasy was. Cepheus was pretty sure about that, even if she didn't have anything to back her up. (Hopefully she hadn't just gotten isekai'd. She had an essay due tomorrow that she hadn't finished yet.) There was a die at her feet, anyway, so that seemed like a sensible way to proceed.
First roll: a 4.
Something smelled bad on the tile she moved to. Something smelled absolutely totally awful. Maybe rot? Was there something moving out there? She hurriedly rolled the die again.

This new space seemed nice, for a few seconds, like she was at a boardwalk or a beach she couldn't quite see. And it was nice right up until a few seconds went by, and then she was choking and coughing on water, salt burning her lungs; there were scaled hands in the water, Cepheus thought, bleary-eyed. That wasn't very nice of them. That was pretty awful, actually. She fumbled for the die again --

T-this one was just as bad as the last one! Except instead of bats, it was rats! What was the next one going to be? Cats? A wet kind of rodent? ...what would a wet kind of rodent be, any ways? Maybe an otter? No, that didn't work, and besides she liked otters... onto the next one before the rats got here, though, that was the smart option even if she'd just spent a solid five to ten seconds glazing over and staring into space.

THIS WAS EVEN WORSE THAN THE ONES SHE'D ALREADY THOUGHT WERE THE WORST, ACTUALLY. Cepheus was not a great swimmer! Which was probably ironic for someone whose sphere was Squids, but it was what it was! She was soaked to the bone, freezing cold, and now her hair was all wet and turning into a solid mass of miserably dense curls. She was getting out of here just as soon as she could make her hands stop shaking long enough to roll the die on what ice was left.

Zinnia was going to lie down for five thousand years. As soon as the aura surrounded her and transported her back to the street she'd left, she powered down, if only so she could be slightly less wet and cold.
Maybe she'd just get an Uber home. That was probably for the best.
