He felt so much better after talking with his brother, that Lisse felt the need to really prolong the good feeling. His black eye was very nearly gone, and the bruise that Jason had left was still a little tender when he touched it…so obviously he just…tried to not touch it. Easy enough.
He had let Lena know to meet him in the park and had brought a small cooler with ice packs and some chocolate drinks just in case they ended up getting any bruises of their own or just…needed a pick me up.
Hurrying to the park, he grinned at his cousin and after glancing around, powered up into Lisse. “Now, I was thinking you and me could do a little spar? Or, rather I was thinking you can show me how hard you can punch? I’m hoping that it’s less than my brother does…and please don’t aim for the face but…have at me! I have an ice pack in case you’re better than I am assuming you’ll be but…”
Lisse spread his arms. “Come on and show me what you got.”

Lena had thought a lot about being a knight. She'd written about three novels in her head about stepping up sidesaddle on a unicorn steed, and throwing magical, glowing spoon-javelins at armies and armies of jellyfish monsters. Had she actually powered up again? No, not at first. Dreaming all those daydreams took up a lot of time! She'd do it for her cousin, though. She'd do it for Lisse, even if she had to spend her whole trip over to the park saying his magic name to herself over and over so she didn't mess it up once she was there. Only, then he was talking about fighting instead of even saying hello. She curled her hands loosely into balls, thumbs tucked inside her fingers, and she frowned. "This doesn't feel very knightly," she said. "I know knights are heroes and stand up against evil, but they don't brawl." She loked over at him. "What happened to your eye?"

“Sometimes brawling is how we learn…and my eye…I got clobbered by a crazy chaos b***h. And it hurt. And I learned that they can just…teleport and just…vanish and reappear. It’s terrifying…so…you need to be good at punching so that you can get them in the eyes before they get you…”
Lisse sighed. “Look, I’m just worried about you. You’re important to me and Jason both…and he’s all for training as your civilian self and I know he’ll be coming at you with some kind of a training schedule or something but…I know for a fact that you have to learn to fight…or at least throw a good punch…so…consider me your punching bag…but promise you’ll open the Yoo-hoo for me when we’re done.”

"Jason is weird," she countered, and visibly balked at the idea of a training schedule. Anyone who thought she did anything at all on any kind of schedule was wrong. Lisse might have had a point about having to start somewhere, before getting to the more dignified, heroic, and glowing weapons. That was how it was in DnD, although you didn't usually start with your bare hands unless you were a monk. She wasn't a monk. She got the feeling she was going to keep getting nagged until she did something, though, so she shrugged and weakly threw a bad punch.

Okay. Lisse found that there was a good side and a bad side to this…
The good side was the fact that she was able to throw a punch! She was determined and confident…ish…and it didn’t hurt. Wouldn't leave a bruise.
A good side for him...not really for her when she had to fight real enemies. “Okay, You did it, I’m proud of you, why don’t you try again with a little more…pizazz behind it? Pretend that I’m something you’re afraid of…pretend…oh! Pretend that I’m that blood fiend I painted for you last month? You said that it was absolutely horrifying…so just…picture me as that, coming to get you and drain all of your blood!”
He knew monsters. He knew she knew monsters…and perhaps…
“You don’t have to use your fists if you don’t want…just…pretend I’m the blood fiend and stop me!”

The blood fiend. She remembered that. It had been terrorizing a local village, and when they'd tracked it down to a cave, it had almost killed their healer! He'd been on his last death saving throw. The mini had been beautiful, but Lena hated that thing! She'd had no problems frying it with magic. She didn't have magic now, though. Maybe she had some, but it wasn't a spell she could swing. Just- A spoon. She looked down at it. It was silver, and shiny. It shone like a blade, she decided, gleaming on the eve of battle. She wasn't a monk, but maybe she could pull off paladin. "Leave us, fiend!" she said in a British accent, and although she only had her tiny spoon-sword, her hit with it had a little more oomph.

Luke had seen people attack others with cutlery before in television shows, but never did he think he would be stabbed with a spoon.
Sure it didn’t actually hurt...but it confused the hell out of him, which was just as good. And honestly, for what it was, Almere put force behind it…and if she did often…maybe if she curled her fist up around the spoon and used it as some kind of a brass knuckles…
He blinked stupidly at his cousin and then grinned. “Hey, I like that. Your weapon isn’t…really that useless at all, if you hid the spoon in your fist, I bet that you could punch with more strength too. But…I like your little spoon sword, that’s fantastic.”
Rubbing his chest where she had ‘stabbed’ him, Luke laughed. “Attacked by a spoon. Who would have ever thought.”

"I'm not going to use it as knuckles," said Almere, looking a little bit dejected that he'd even suggest that. "It's a sword." Knights had swords. She wasn't sure how long it was going to take him to realize this. He'd said he liked the technique, though, so maybe he was getting there. "Are you going to try to hit me or something, or can we eat those snacks now?" Obviously, she'd already proven that she could fight.

“That’s fine! A sword is just fine, I’m just saying, if you ever get into a situation where the sword isn’t working…it’s good to have backup plans.” Lisse held his hands up in surrender and grinned at his cousin. “All right, all right. Snacks absolutely are for now. I have Yoo-hoo and some Halloween Oreos, so, let’s get hyped up on sugar and then go back to our families and roommates.”
He took a moment to make sure there were no other auras around before letting his powered form drop, leaving Luke standing there.
Without waiting for her answer, he moved over and hugged his cousin tightly. “I’m proud of you. You’re kind of amazing and I’m really excited to see what kind of Knights we end up.”

Maybe she could accept the backup plans if he could accept that the sword was the best plan. "It's nice seeing you like this, too," she told him, letting her form drop when he did and wasting no time in going for the chocolate milk. "Not just because it makes you look like a prince, although the costumes are probably the best part." Hers was already better than any clothes that she could have possibly imagined. She didn't know how it could get any better when she got stronger. "But I already seeing it making you more heroic." He was going after Chaos people. He was saving her from monsters, and then trying to make sure that she would be okay if she ran into any other ones. "You'll be a good hero, Luke."

“You’re going to be a good hero Lena. I think we’re both going to be pretty fantastic.”
He felt good about this…maybe it was kind of bullying, asking her to just…attack him on the spot but…
It was good for the both of them…and now they could simply relax and both know that they were just a little more prepared for whatever lay ahead.
