The Aftermath

After the Aishan trees had suddenly and furiously bloomed, pollen had started to fall from the sky in never before seen quantities. The sun seemed choked by its presence and the breeze currents seemed to carry it across all of Tendaji.
Curiously enough, the impact of the pollen could be seen in earthlings...
Random earthlings across Tendaji saw cracks and fissures in their skin, shedding as if they had a sunburn. New skin tones shone through from underneath. Almost as if by magic new eye colors and crystal colors emerged with a night's rest. Earthlings changed overnight without regard to their family lineage. Brothers and sisters now sported new colors; mothers and daughters that once looked like spitting images captured the eyes of many with their sudden differences.
What could be made of these changes? The world was in upset, some overjoyed and thrilled at the new colors, others in despair as their self views shifted beneath their feet.
[ Earthlings (and those with earthling blood) have started to suddenly change colors! What does your character make of the changes? Did they change too, or do they just witness the new looks of someone close? Are they fascinated in this sudden new change, or are they in the throws of woe? Let us know how your character handles the change in the world! ]
Color Change Instructions
|| Either at the very beginning of the WE or at the very end, the owner(s) should create a post dedicated to the new colors chosen if they choose to update their palette.
|| Owners do not have to change all of the character's colors, they can opt to change just one, a few, or all.
|| Owners should specifically post which new swatch they would like (no CC, this event is for owners who specifically want new colors for their characters).
|| Characters can only choose new swatches in the race that is already established. (A hybrid with fire skin can ONLY choose fire skin, just a new shade. A hybrid with leaf crystals can ONLY choose leaf crystals, etc.)
|| Aishan hybrids that have earthling colored skin can choose to update their skin tone and the staff will decide whether their fade needs to be updated as well (if applicable). We will pick the fade color best suited to the character, owners only have to pick the base skin tone.
|| ONLY earthling colors can be updated. Aishan and Kahikinan colors are not affected by this event.
|| All updates will be made during the next growth of the character!
|| Characters can update their swatches individually of their families (colors chosen will not affect any other character in the shop).
|| Any breeding moving forward will use these new colors (consider these new swatches new genetics).

[ Alek will now have █████ skin and █████ hair. ] Alek had awakened several times in the night, his skin warm with something akin to a low grade fever, but without additional symptoms there wasn't much to do beyond drinking a cup of medicinal tea and waiting until morning. When he awoke, skin cool but a slightly different shade, he thought it might be a trick of the light. He wanted to be frightened, but all he felt was an odd sort of calm. He dressed calmly, pulled his hair to one side and braided it calmly, then headed outside to look for Kai, only to find that the city was now covered in pollen. He sneezed into the crook of his elbow. Locating his traveling companion wasn't difficult, but considering the size of the city it was surprising that he found Kai so quickly. Alek approached at a hasty shuffle, arms crossed close to his body. "I... um... how do you feel?"

Kai frowned as he wandered close to Alek, hands lifting to rest on his cheeks. He looked different, chillier? Maybe that was the word he was looking for? Something about him was different, like his colors had been warped to something closer to the cold north they wandered towards. He felt fine, no stuffy nose or clammy skin. Alek on the other hand looked....a bit rough. "I feel okay, but what about you? You look uh....well your hair looks darker. And your skin is different too. Are you sick? Do I need to carry you somewhere for medical attention?" Kai questioned, fingers slipping back to brush against the back of Alek's neck.

He took a deep breath, holding a blink a little longer than usual in response to Kai's tactile concern, and when Alek exhaled his arms untangled and his shoulders loosened. It was fortunate that he had grown accustomed to finding comfort in his companion's brand of reassurance. Embarrassing too, but he tried to not dwell on that. A change in coloration out of nowhere was curious, though nothing he couldn't adapt to in time, he supposed. Some days, it felt like the physical similarities he shared with his twin were the only things that kept her in his thoughts, but maybe it was time to test that theory. "I'm glad you're well. I might have overreacted when I saw..." He gestured at his hair and the pollen in the air. "But I think I'm fine. No need to toss me over your shoulder and drag me to a healer," he added with a brief chuckle. His expression hovered between worry and amusement, as it always did when he smiled.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there to help," Kai muttered, threading his fingers through strands of Alek's hair as he leaned in close. Even if he'd wanted to carry Alek over his shoulder he didn't think he was quite capable enough to do so. Perhaps it was something he should work on. Maybe Alek would like it? He'd never said anything regarding being carried before... "You always look stunning of course, but what do you think of your new color? If it ends up being permanent. Are you okay with it being this way?" Kai asked, unable to keep the worry out of his voice even as he watched over Alek.

"It's all right. You shouldn't have to take care of me." He swallowed. "Not that I don't appreciate it." He had already seen and done more in the past few weeks than he had for many years prior. Had he not met Kai, he would be back underground right now. Alek brought a hand up to brush at Kai's shoulder and was examining its back when Kai continued. He couldn't help the laugh that escaped him. Alek disagreed with the stunning part, but he knew better than to argue. "It will take some getting used to, but I can handle it. I think. I wouldn't mind at all if it wasn't for Kayin. My sister. We were nearly identical as children." And now, they wouldn't be.

Kai listened to Alek speak, brows furrowing when he mentioned his sister. That would be a strange change to go from looking like an identical child to being so different. Kai would have hated going around knowing someone looked similar to him, but her figured that was more because he needed to be beautiful more so than the thought of a sibling.
"I enjoy taking care of you when I can, you know," he huffed out, smiling playfully. "I'll take care of you whenever you ask me to." He considered the circumstance, wondering what had caused the change in Alek. "You think you're the only one? Or have you seen others change?"

"Yes, I know." Alek smiled back, not realizing he was doing so at first. He chuckled and shook his head, looking down at his hands where he had folded them again. "You're very attentive." The knowledge that Kai would listen to him, even if he was a little bit hysterical, was what had prompted Alek to find him in the first place. "But I doubt I'm the only one." He couldn't imagine fate choosing him specifically for this dubious honor. "I didn't notice anyone reacting to their skin on the way here, but I wasn't paying much attention." He looked around for any people in the vicinity, but the only ones passing by seemed preoccupied by their own business. "I think the number of people affected would depend on how far this pollen has spread."

Kai nodded slowly, appreciating the rare smile he saw coming from Alek. He liked to think it was something just for him that no one else got to see. Whether that was true or not was unimportant. He was the most special after all. Kai sneezed a little at the pollen, tilting his head up to look at the somewhat hazy sky. The pollen trickled down around them and he wondered what about it made the change. "Such a strange thing. As long as it doesn't hurt you it's fine. But if you feel anything else bad happening you tell me."

Alek nodded. "I will."After a moment's thought he stood a little taller, having seemingly surprised himself. "I should probably contact my mentor about this, perhaps in a letter. He might know more. Or maybe this isn't even affecting him." Leten would probably enjoy hearing what he was up to as well. Alek had made sure to inform the man that he wouldn't be coming home for the foreseeable future, but a diary of his travels would also be welcome, no matter the frequency. "But I can do that later. Um... we should maybe have breakfast? There is that place that gave us the free dessert?" They had also been seated within view of everyone who passed, Kai's appearance striking enough to be considered a draw for customers. Alek suspected that Kai had enjoyed the attention.

Kai perked at the mention of breakfast and grabbed hold of Alek's hand, tugging him along. "Breakfast is a good idea. You should get food in you and see if it changes anything, or at least it'll help to calm the nerves. Especially if we get some tea." Really he just wanted to ensure that Alek was okay. He'd said he felt fine, but the concern lingered as he pulled him along. "If your mentor knows something we could go visit him. Talk to him and get his perspective." Kai also just wanted to know everything about Alek, even the small things.

He hurried after Kai and their clasped hands, his worries getting chased away by distraction. "Yes, tea." Preparing it was a ritual that always managed to settle him. Though, if he was being honest, Alek already felt a lot better than he had a few minutes ago. He went silent as he considered a visit north. "We could..." He wasn't against it. "Zena is kind of boring. At least where I live is." He laughed softly. "But I wouldn't mind. It's something to think about."

"It'd be good to show off the new you, I think. To those that matter," Kai commented, thinking of the chilly north. He would need to get more lotions perhaps. If not his skin might dry out. The thought made his face pale slightly, worry coming over him. "I think it will be fun to see, but may be harsh on my skin. I'll have to take precautions! We wouldn't want to see either of us looking dreadful upon arrival, now would we?"Kai continued to tug Alek along as he rambled, his concerns fading more as he escorted the boy to their desired breakfast spot. Everything would be fine. Nothing to worry about.

"Oh! Yes, don't worry. We'll be well prepared. If we go. But if anything more pressing comes up, we don't have to, of course."But that was something to think about later. As Alek saw their destination fast approaching, he brushed off his cloak with his free hand and tried to rearrange his hair. "Either way, we can head somewhere warmer after that." He had never been anywhere where he couldn't get away with covering up extensively, and the last time he had gone barefoot he had been little more than a child.

"Warmer? You could always come to my land! Then we could get you nice warm clothing. Not that your cloak and cold clothes are bad. Just I think you'd look nice in some warmer clothes," Kai explained, trying to imagine what Alek would look like wearing his clothing. He blushed slightly at the thought, wanting to see if he would try them on. They were about the same height...sharing clothes could be a possiblity? "But first things first. Breakfast. We can think about our future plans after we're full!"
