After the Aishan trees had suddenly and furiously bloomed, pollen had started to fall from the sky in never before seen quantities. The sun seemed choked by its presence and the breeze currents seemed to carry it across all of Tendaji.
Curiously enough, the impact of the pollen could be seen in earthlings...
Random earthlings across Tendaji saw cracks and fissures in their skin, shedding as if they had a sunburn. New skin tones shone through from underneath. Almost as if by magic new eye colors and crystal colors emerged with a night's rest. Earthlings changed overnight without regard to their family lineage. Brothers and sisters now sported new colors; mothers and daughters that once looked like spitting images captured the eyes of many with their sudden differences.
What could be made of these changes? The world was in upset, some overjoyed and thrilled at the new colors, others in despair as their self views shifted beneath their feet.

Did they change too, or do they just witness the new looks of someone close? Are they fascinated in this sudden new change, or are they in the throws of woe? Color Change Instructions
|| Either at the very beginning of the WE or at the very end, the owner(s) should create a post dedicated to the new colors chosen if they choose to update their palette. || Owners do not have to change all of the character's colors, they can opt to change just one, a few, or all. || Owners should specifically post which new swatch they would like (no CC, this event is for owners who specifically want new colors for their characters). || Characters can only choose new swatches in the race that is already established. (A hybrid with fire skin can ONLY choose fire skin, just a new shade. A hybrid with leaf crystals can ONLY choose leaf crystals, etc.) || Aishan hybrids that have earthling colored skin can choose to update their skin tone and the staff will decide whether their fade needs to be updated as well (if applicable). We will pick the fade color best suited to the character, owners only have to pick the base skin tone. || ONLY earthling colors can be updated. Aishan and Kahikinan colors are not affected by this event. || All updates will be made during the next growth of the character! || Characters can update their swatches individually of their families (colors chosen will not affect any other character in the shop). || Any breeding moving forward will use these new colors (consider these new swatches new genetics). || If you have any questions feel free to reach out to the mule, Ely, or Kana and we can help with anything individual that hasn't been addressed here!

Mina pressed down the front of her dress with a nervous exhale. She'd borrowed the pretty little Oban thing from one of her new friends at the boarding house and hoped that the sunset colors would look just as nice on her as they did it's owner. The sleeves went just past her elbows and may have added to the modesty of the longer dress were they not sheer. She'd pulled her hair back with some pins, did her best with a little bit of cosmetics she'd bought and - why was she still so nervous?
If this were one of her missions then she would have been so much more focused! Instead, as she waited for Oly by the bakery like she'd told him, she couldn't help jumping each time she saw anyone remotely like him. Which was...strangely a few more people than usual. Were earthlings prone to seasonal changes, like plants? She knew some creatures that shed their brighter colors in favor of darker tones for winter, but this...this was a little odd.

Why today? Of all of the days ever, why did it happen today? What the heck had even happened anyway? He'd finally made plans to meet up with that super cute Hapuna, and he'd woken up with- with-
He'd cleaned up as best as he could, but the colors didn't wash away. His skin and his hair... Dammit, he couldn't leave Mina waiting though. As he walked, he heard others talking. His family hadn't been the only ones to experience changes... He grunted and pulled his deep hat down tighter over his hair to keep it covered. The straw hat didn't match his nice tunic and fitted pants, but his hair was just too shocking to leave exposed. Did it really have to change to- "Mina!" Despite the tension he felt, he couldn't help smiling when he saw Mina standing in that pretty dress. He could forget about himself for a brief moment. "You look really nice."

As she waited Mina peered around the square, growing more curious by the moment. Some of the earthlings seemed delighted by their new appearances while others were anxious, even a little distraught. Giving a little 'hmm' as she thought it over, Mina reached up to tuck one long, golden strand of hair behind her ear when she heard her name.
"Oly!" She was positively beaming when she turned to look at him, and the entire length of her dress seemed to shift colors when she turned. He looked- He looks so dreamy. Words couldn't accurately describe the way her heart practically took flight when seeing Oly dressed up in his finery, but spirits did Mina feel as light as feather~ "Do you like it? I knew from the moment I saw this one that I wanted to wear it on our...lunch day because it matched your hair."
His hair which was oddly hit behind a hat? She didn't want to comment on it; maybe he was having a rough styling day? Although, now that she really looked at him, Mina thought his skin looked a little off too. "Are you feeling alright?"

Speaking of taking flight! Oly's breath caught when he got the full force of Mino'aka's smile while the dress flared and shimmered. Telling her she looked nice had been a drastic understatement, but he hadn't wanted to come on too strongly. This was their first planned day together, and he'd gotten mixed messages when he'd asked for advice from his friends. Be cool. Compliment everything. Don't stare. Do stare. Dang, he wanted to stare...
Oh gods his hair! His face blanched pale as an awkward laugh tried to cover his concern. "Yeah, yeah, it did.. uh.. it did match..." With a hard gulp to clear his throat, he winced and reached up for his hat. It was better to do it now and get the rejection over with. Not that he actively thought it would be a deal breaker.. but the fear was there. "I feel okay, yeah. Just.. something happened though. I don't.. I don't know how.." He took a deep breath and tipped his hat back, revealing the bright pink locks now accompanying the shifted skin without removing it completely. "I woke up like this."

"It did?" Now Mina was really and truly worried. He seemed so clammy all of a sudden and with his skin already looking so different she couldn't help wondering if he'd pass out in the street!
When his hair was exposed the Hapuna gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. Her golden eyes widened, completely blown away by his change and yet - "Olokun, it's beautiful. Why would you ever hide it?" She shifted her hands, moving them up to touch his hair, regardless of how he felt about it. There was still a tremor of concern in her face, but most had shifted into awe. "I'm sorry, you were probably so scared when you woke up. People were talking about this in the market, but I didn't think..."
Feeling her cheeks warm, Mina demurely lowered her hands and clasped them behind her. "I know it's a change, but...I think it's a handsome color."

That certainly wasn't a reaction he'd been expecting! Oly's cheeks heated dark from the compliment in addition to the touch to his hair. "Scared? I- no, no. I mean, concerned, yeah.. Not scared." He cleared his throat after his awkward show of bravado and nodded. His hand dropped back down, but his hat remained tilted back to let Mina continue her examination. "Yeah, I heard them talking as I was coming to see you. Some of my family have changes, too, but not all of them."
He squinted his eyes slightly, trying to judge Mina's sincerity. She.. really liked it? The heat on his cheeks took on a more pleased hue as his expression finally relaxed. "I was thinking about getting some dye for it, but.. thanks." He reached up again to tug on one of the fresh pink locks. It really wasn't that bad. More of a shock than anything else. Now he could manage a slightly more playful smile. "Sorry it doesn't match your dress now."

"Don't dye it!" Mina reached out to put a hand on his arm, a brief flash of panic on her face before collecting herself and pulling her hand back. "It's okay that it doesn't match my dress; it's not mine anyway. It belongs to another girl at the boarding house so I can just buy my own to match this color. If you...if you really want to dye it then you can but I don't see anything wrong with it."
Maybe it was because of her culture or the blood in her veins, but Mina really did enjoy brighter colors. His hair before had been a lovely shade of scarlet, and even though this was a change it wasn't a bad one. Just something new to get used to. "So...how often do earthlings go through this kind of change? Is it because of the new season?"

Oly's expression widened with surprise before it warmed with bashful satisfaction. "Okay then.. I won't change it. It was a pretty big shock, but I can't say I hate it." He had obviously been concerned about how Mina would react to the change. Apparently, there had been no need for such concern. With a deep breath, he reached back up to fully remove his hat. It let the full light of the sun shine along the bright color, and made him feel better about not having the awkward hat clashing with his outfit anymore. On the topic of clothing though! "If you'd like, I could go with you when you decide to shop. ...Make sure the colors really match, eh?"
How often?! "Honestly, I've never seen or heard of such a thing. It was kinda like.. like a snake shedding its skin. From what I can tell, it's never happened before. That pollen stuff yesterday was different, too. Maybe it had something to do with that?" Gods, his skin had been itchy. It was so confusing.

"You want to go shopping?" Papa never went with her and mama, but then again her mother had never invited him, either. Shopping trips were stressful ordeals with her mother fussing over the budget and dissuading Mina from anything too nice. It was a wonder they'd ever gone at all, but...if Oly wanted to go with her....well... "I think I'd really like that."
Mina's eyes widened. "OH. That stuff did this to you? There was a sort of...layer on everything yesterday, but I didn't think much of it. Well, I'm glad this is the worst of it and you aren't ill on top of the changes." The changes may have been upsetting to some, but she imagined it was far better than running fevers or breaking out into blisters.

Oly hesitated a moment before risking a reply. Would she think it was odd that he didn't mind shopping? Was it not manly behavior? What if-? Oh. With the acceptance, Oly relaxed and nodded. "Yeah. I'd be happy to help." Well, another day with Mina and see her trying on cute things... He saw nothing but positives for him.
"I don't know if it was the fluff that made things change, but that's all I can figure. Heard a few suggest the same as I was coming in." On that note, he cautiously looked Mina over. "It looks like nothing changed on you though." A little smile of approval unconsciously rose. He liked her as she was.

"That's what I thought was so strange! That it was only your kind that changed and not mine." It wasn't as if she saw many of her kind out and about in this part of the world, but Mina had tried looking. Lifting her arms, the vain little Hapuna took stock of their luminous golden sheen and smiled. "I'm glad I didn't change, though. Moving was enough of a shock to me, although...maybe a new hair color wouldn't be so bad." She smirked.
Letting one hand fall, Mina hesitated only briefly before holding the other out to Oly. "Are you ready? If you still need some time to adjust we can plan for another day."

So it was true. It really was only the earthlings that woke to strange colors. How odd. "You could always play with hair dye if you'd like. Can have the fun without the permanentness." Permanentness... That wasn't a word. Oh well.
With only a brief pause, Oly smiled and reached to take Mina's hand gently. "I still need to adjust.. but I'm not going to let it get in the way of enjoying the day with you." His free hand rose to ruffle through his freshly changed hair for emphasis. Perhaps he would be more concerned if he had been the only one to change, but others in his family had as well, and everyone he had passed so far seemed unharmed.

There was a brief moment where Mina worried he might let go, once he touched her hand, but when Oly didn't the skin on the back of her neck warmed. Her skin wasn't like an earthlings; it was a little cooler, with a dampness to it so wouldn't dry out that tended to give others a sense of unease. She'd thought about wearing gloves, but it didn't match the dress and it was too late now anyway-
"Maybe just a walk on the beach? We could grab something quick to eat and take it easy."

Oly had noted the difference between their hands, but it was an unconscious note more than anything else. He'd shaken hands with all kinds during his fish sales at the docks and markets. The feeling wasn't common, but also not that startling for him either. His smile simply brightened with interest. "That sounds like a good plan. And if you feel like doing anything else, just say the word." Though, a walk on the beach and a meal? It really did sound great.
