The lights go out as the familiar chords of Down with the Sickness start up. Fans light their lighters throughout the audience, a rarity in this day and age but a throwback to the years Jarel has spent in the business. On the titantron, more highlights from the Dragon's career play, from the reuniting with Zarel to teaming with Drako and Janelle and even his retirement tour matches against the Creeker, Cyrus Leone and his family, and eventually the higher points of his match with Marcus
Oh wah ah ah ah!
Flames burst up on the stage and the crowd erupts as the Dragon finally steps out onto the stage
Drowning deep in my sea of loathing
Broken your servant I kneel
(Will you give in to me?)
It seems what's left of my human side
Is slowly changing ... in me
(Will you give in to me?)
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome WWFG Hall of Famer, Jarel Damone!"
Jarel looks out over the arena at the sea of cheering fans with their lighters in the air and begins his walk down to the ring
Looking at my own reflection
When suddenly it changes
Violently it changes
Oh no, There is no turning back now
You've woken up the demon ... in me
Flames burst up on the side of the ramp as the Dragon walks towards the ring, not as slowly as he had in the last match he'd had, but not too briskly either. Finally he reaches the end of the ramp and looks at the God of Time waiting inside.
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Open up your hate, and let it flow into me
Get up, come on get down with the sickness
You mother get up
Come on get down with the sickness
You ******** get up
Come on get down with the sickness
Madness is the gift, that has been given to me
Jarel steps up to the ring and onto the apron, then spreads his arms as the old Silver Dragon symbol lowers from the rafters to hang over the ring. He steps into the ring over the top rope and steps to stand in front of the symbol, which lights up with flames outlining it as the Dragon raises his fist. Moments later, he looks up as the symbol rises again, then turns to take up a mic
It takes a few moments for the crowd to settle down to allow him to speak.
"At last, Unforgiven has come and gone. The one match I never had prior to my retirement has been had. The dust has settled, and normally, I would have done exactly what I did three years ago, and simply rode off into the sunset. I'm not normally one for too many speeches and farewells."
Jarel breaks off at a rumble from the crowd, not quite boos but not the most happy of sounds either.
"Now, let's be clear, going into this match, I stated that this was a one time only deal. My career ended against my son as it should have. Three years ago, it became evident that the ravages of time had caught up to me, no pun intended. I had an agreement with the Damone family. If at any time any of us had lost a step, if we weren't at the same level anymore and refused to hang up the boots, one of the others would put us down. The first generation, myself and Zarel, have reached that point. Our sons, through some prodding from their uncle, fulfilled this agreement."
The Dragon walks to the ropes and rests his arms over them.
"But when this match was brought to me here in WWFG, it brought up something eating at me. There's history between the Dragon and the God of Time, on and off screen. But more than anything, it's the fact that in this ring, one on one, we'd never truly had the match. We've stood in this ring together during rumbles and promos. Had a weird one in EEW actually. XCW, DHW, EWA, we had interactions, traded some shots, even had an entire build up here in WWFG but management intervened to ensure the actual match never happened. So, while I could be content with everything else I've done, the titles, the teams, the matches, that one stood out as a question that needed to be answered. It's a question I didn't really admit that I had, but it was there."
Jarel looks around the arena.
"When the challenge was laid down, I considered my options. I'm retired. I've been at home training the next generation and catching up on things I missed while I was always on the road. I should be honoring that. But as you all saw, the family understood. Some things a man just has to do, consequences be damned. So the champion, my son, and my nephew came to the Den and we got to work making sure I was ready to have one last ride."
a smirk comes across his face at the reference. Someone will get it.
"We took a few months to build to it, to get ready. Finally Unforgiven was here and it was time to go out and one last time step into the role. One last time, the Dragon would take to the battle field and against the one god he hadn't faced before. Because Chrono had a clear request for me. He wasn't coming to Unforgiven, the aptly named show for us, to face the family man content to just guide the next generation along. He wanted the Dragon, the Godfather of Hardcore. Well, I think it's fair to say that he got what he asked for."
cheers break out here.
"When you have two men like us, two polarizing figures, to use a term from Michael Cole, there's a question in everyone's mind. When these two men meet one on one, who gets the win? How does the win happen? Will they truly keep all their family and friends away from it? To pull from some old accusations, will they go politick backstage with the boss? Not sure how that might apply but it is in fact an accusation that's been made about us both. But it boils down to who wins."
a pause for a breath.
"Well, that question has been answered. One last time, the Dragon rode into battle, and one last time, the Dragon emerged victorious. It wasn't short, it wasn't easy, it wasn't one sided. It was a fight, and admittedly for me, it was an uphill fight. Stepping out of retirement reveals a toll. Despite the workouts, despite having the most fun chokeslamming the likes of Salem to get him back in shape, there's nothing like wrestling a full match in a sold out arena with screaming fans evenly divided against a rival who has been more active in rings in recent years. The God of Time, the Behemoth, whatever you want to call him, he came with all of it. And I find myself thankful that one last time, i got to be the man you all knew me to be."
Jarel straightens up again and walks across the ring.
"Which brings me to why I'm really out here. This time, i wanted to make sure that there were no lingering questions, no maybe he's done but maybe he'll be back. Over the years, I've battled a little bit of everyone you can think of. Everyone from the current owner of this company, Cartwright, to my long standing rivalry with Nuke Fusion. I've had rivalries based in respect with the likes of Draze, and total disrespect like the apparently departed Freakshow. I've been mentor to Snypa Rifle, gone to hell and back with his other mentor in Shadow. I've dealt with screwjobs and even been hung from this very symbol by Omen. I've been world champion 14 times over, held tag titles with both of my brothers. I've fought with and teamed with my family in promotions all over the place. I've seen to the training of both the second and third generations of the Damone family. I can honestly say that after this last match with Chrono, there's nothing left for me to do, nothing that I feel I haven't accomplished, nothing that eats away at me."
JR: I think this is a confirmation that the match at Unforgiven will be the last time we see Jarel compete in the ring.
King: Going out on a high note.
Jarel stops and removes the coat he'd had made for the match at Unforgiven, folding it and placing it in the center of the ring. From there, he removes his gloves and lays them on top of the coat and to the side of them are his wrestling boots, which he'd actually tucked under the coat before coming out. Finally, he raises the mic again.
"Though I think you all understand what this means, allow me to say it, the Dragon has retired. I'm going to return to the Den and let the next generations carry the Damone name forward. And let it be known that the Dragon has not been slain, the Dragon has simply chosen to take his well deserved rest."
With that, Jarel tosses the mic and lets his music hit one last time as he leaves the ring. His retirement has finally been well and truly confirmed for everyone
