There’s no pause button on life. One bad thing causes a monsoon of bad to come your way. If ever something good happens, there’s something terrible just around the corner. Why look for the good when it’s always followed by bad?
xxxxx⇾Hᴜᴍʙʟᴇ
It’s hard for Kinzlie to take compliments, and she very seldom stands up for her own achievements. The only one she’ll ever stand by every single time is her son, for whom she feels a great pride.
xxxxx⇾Dɪsᴛʀᴜsᴛɪɴɢ
From working in some rather... seedy locations, Kinzlie has had to learn not to trust people. Most have hidden agendas, or are just downright horrible. If ever you manage to get her to trust you, she’ll immediately lose trust again at the first sign of betrayal.
xxxxx⇾Pᴀʀᴀɴᴏɪᴅ
Living in such a terrible lifestyle, Kinzlie developed a paranoia that things were going to go bad. Any knock at the door could be for repossessions or trying to take Sebastian. Any flicker in the lights could be her power bill gone out. And anyone walking alone at night may just be a murderer.... or worse.
xxxxx⇾Lᴏʏᴀʟ
To those few she truly trusts, they can expect extreme loyalty. And to her own morals, she forever remains true. Those in her care can expect the most wholehearted form of love, as well as a protection from everything she can shield them from.
xxxxx⇾Exʜᴀᴜsᴛᴇᴅ
Despite being fairly young, Kinzlie seems to be perpetually tired. Life is a rollercoaster that won’t stop, and she can never seem to catch a break. Between working several jobs, trying to care for a child all alone, and the general paranoia of living such a high-risk lifestyle makes sleepless nights painfully common.

xxxℬ𝓲𝓸𝓰𝓻𝓪𝓹𝓱𝔂xxxxxx𝒞𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒹𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxxKinzlie was born to Richard and Shara Moon. They were a pastor and his wife at the local church, and had had several years worth of failed attempts at having children of their own. She was their supposed “miracle”, and they put a lot of pressure on her to be their version of perfect.
All her life, Kinzlie was expected to be a god-fearing, rule-following, uber-feminine little girl. No playing with boy toys, no wearing pants or anything even vaguely masculine. She wasn’t even allowed to cut her hair, for pete’s sake! Instead of going to school, Shara decided to homeschool her, despite having absolutely no credentials to do so. As Kinzlie got older, she started to question life, which often resulted in harsh punishment from her parents.
Any time Kinzlie tried to find a “trusted adult” to talk to about her worries, they always turned back to the pastor, who would have the whole church shame her, pray for her.... then her parents would take her home and the torment would continue. This would take place for even the most minor of “sins”, or whatever they perceived as causing trouble in their young daughter.
Even though the church was supposed to be a safe place, Kinzlie quickly learned that most of the people who came to worship were secretly horrible. They would fake nice during service, then afterwards release their demons. Starting at fourteen, one of the men in the congregation, her father’s friend, had started making lecherous comments toward her. She tried to dress more modestly, to cover her changing body, but it only seemed to make him comment more.
She tried to beg her parents to keep him away from her, but instead she was punished, then made to take up cleaning the man’s home. Apparently they wanted to “prove” he was a good, family man. Unfortunately for little Kinzlie, he was in fact, a super skeezy weirdo. Any time his wife would leave to the market or wherever else, the man would force himself upon poor Kinzlie. And if ever she mentioned it to her parents, they called her a sinner, a lost soul who must have corrupted their friend. A bit over a year of this torment, and Kinzlie found herself to be pregnant by her tormentor.
Richard and Shara immediately freaked out, saying all sort of horrible things to their teenager, accusing her of being demon possessed among worse. She wanted to give up the baby, to get rid of it... but her parents refused. They kept her mostly locked in her room, monitoring her 24/7 to make sure she didn’t try anything. Several months later, she was forced to give birth there, with the congregation praying over her the whole time. Including the man who had done the horrible deed.
Kinzlie tried to ask him to take the little baby boy, but he denied everything. His wife and the entire church believed him, ostracizing Kinzlie even more. While still forced to be home, she did her very best for this precious little boy, who was so innocent and so perfect. Even through all the pain, she knew she would do anything for that little baby boy.
xxx𝒜𝒹𝓊𝓁𝓉𝒽𝑜𝑜𝒹xxxOn the morning of Kinzlie’s eighteenth birthday, she woke to her parents taking all her possessions and throwing them out to the lawn. She had to go to a local shelter with Sebastian, hoping they could care for them. Kinzlie had only managed to save a couple bags worth of things, and most of them were for the baby. Eventually, the shelter helped her into a job, though low paying, and a crappy rent-controlled apartment in the slums. She moved in, and any chance she could, she worked. One of her neighbors was a nice older lady who lived there after her own family was terrible, and she offered to help with Sebby while Kinzlie worked.
As Sebastian got a little older and more independent, Kinzlie started working longer hours, including some shady jobs involving losing her dignity every shift. Her only solace was coming home to see the happy little smile on her baby boy’s chubby little face. Any chance she could, she spent time with him, even if it was just by renting books or movies from the library.
One day, when Seb was five, he asked her about her hair dye, absolutely fascinated by the colorful magic. Ever since that day, Kinzlie would save just a bit of the dye to add to his hair so they matched. It was their favorite thing every few weeks. And even though she’d given up so much, her sweet baby was always her priority. She was determined he’d never have to experience the hatred and self-loathing she’d grown up with.
As they kept their little rituals, Kinzlie started working more hours as the boy started off to school, hopping a few busses each way. She saved up enough to buy a little tracker-watch for him to wear, just in case something should go awry. Luckily, Seb seemed to know how to make friends everywhere, and despite somehow always making wrong steps, his vivid personality seemed a sort of safety net in the world.
Something was always interesting about Sebastian, from his keen sense of goodness to his ability to seemingly do things she figured might be too advanced. He even allowed himself to get hurt in order to save a poor little kitten that was getting tortured by some psychopath little teenagers. Kinzlie was going to tell him to leave behind the poor animal, but Sebastian’s tear-filled eyes and heartwrenching sobs convinced her to go to the local animal hospital. They sat in the lobby, just hugging and crying for a few hours, before the vet came out and said the little baby was okay. He asked about pay, and Kinzlie had to admit to the man that they were barely able to eat, but didn’t want to let the kitten suffer.
The man was ever kind, saying he could cover the costs for them this time, since they had done a wonderful deed. Kinzlie was about to ask him to help the kitten find a home, but Sebastian asked if they could take him home, and that he would figure out a way for the kitten to be fed. The vet sent them home with a cat bed, litter pan, and a small bag of food, and Kinzlie was sure it meant more nights she might have an empty stomach at bedtime. Luckily for both the Moons, the little three-legged cat turned out to be a skilled hunter, taking care of the mice and bugs in their little apartment. It made it easier for Kinzlie to accept the little guy.
On Sebby’s eleventh birthday, an older woman came over, telling them that Sebastian was indeed special. He was magical. A wizard. It took them both a moment to believe, but as she proved her case, they both began to understand some of the odd goings-on that seemed to surround the boy.
The woman said Sebastian was invited off to a magical boarding school. Kinzlie sadly interjected, saying they had no such money to send him to a private school. After several reassurances, she gave in, going along with the two to a magical street. They knew this would be their last time together for a while, so they stretched their already thin budget just enough to spend a bit more time together before he was due to hop on a train and begin a new chapter in his life.
