Derrick couldn't help but stare at the note that he was holding. He had just come back from his shift at the store, and he came to an empty apartment with a handwritten note from his girlfriend who said they needed to talk but no indication as to what. He tried not to panic as he thought of what she possibly wanted to talk about. Breaking up? No, she wouldn't do it this way... at least she probably wouldn't make him sweat it out a bit before doing so. Could she possibly be pregnant?! He wasn't sure how he would even cope with that. Not that they had left out talking about kids, but just, they had been careful! Surprise pregnancy?! He took another moment to breath. He decided that if they were going to talk over dinner, then he should at least start preparing it. He didn't know how long she was going to be out, so if he could at least get the prep work done, perhaps it would take his mind off of that note...

The trip to her wonder had been interesting, worth it more than she'd figured it would be, but that didn't mean she wasn't happy to be home. Reaching fore the handle, key in hand, she unlocked the door and with a twist of the handle pushed the door to the appartment open.
Stepping inside she was still cold, still a shiver here or there, as she sighed at the warmth of the appartment. She could hear someone in the kitchen, no doubt Derrick, and went to see what he was up to before her planned bath.
Of course she found him cooking, it was sweet, she did appreciate how they both could cook and did so. It wans't just her job nor was it just his. They could both do it so both did whenever they had the time. "You don't mind if I grab a shower while you finish dinner?" Kissing his cheek as she spoke. "I got a bit of a chill and I'd like to get rid of that before we have dinner." Resting a hand on his shoulder, blue eyes staring at him.
"And it's nothing bad that I want to talk about. I know you're worried over it but it's nothing bad, I promise. I wouldn't write a note or text about something bad. I'm not like that." She was just too blunt and stright to the point to do something like that. She liked to deal with things in person and cut right to the point, it was something plenty of people disliked about her. She didn't see the problem with it though, at least you always knew what was going on, what she was thinking, and where you stood with her.

He couldn't help but blush from her kiss, though it was more from the anxiety about what they were going to talk about. He didn't usually blush when they did things that went quite a bit further than just a simple kiss. "Yeah, go ahead." He said, a bit of a squeak at the end of his voice. While she said it wasn't bad, which gave him relief that he wasn't being dumped, it could still mean huge lifestyle changes that he wasn't quite sure if he was prepared for yet. Still, eh could only wait for her to tell him and dished out the pasta bake with side salads that he had prepared as she was taking her shower. Besides setting a couple of glasses of water, he also filled a couple of wine glasses with some chardonnay. Either this was meant for celebration or he just needed something to calm himself down and didn't want to look like he was too worried about what they were going to talk about. He took a breath after he was done, letting himself rest at the table as he sat back in his chair, looking at the pasta in front of him. Hopefully whatever she had to tell him would allow him to eat what he had made, because his stomach was currently in a very big knot.

The shower was hot, enough to leave her skin a bit red, it felt good though against the cold she'd just dealt with up at ehr wonder. That was still a very off thing to think about - her wonder. She hadn't ever really planned to go there, never realyl feeling a need to care for it as others did. It would be good to be comfortable with it if the need to escape Earth ever arose but it wasn't a place a person could live, she knew that for certain now. It was a mine and it was cold and there was no where to even try and make a home.
When she came out of the shower, warm and clean, she went to the bedroom to pull on some soft loungewear she had for thsoe days she had off and didn't want to go out. Typically thsoe days were rainy days, where she stayed in and avoided the rain, she wasn't much for rain and ebing out in it. The clothing was a nice dark blue, almost a navy in color, and some sort of soft material that hung loose on her frame without being baggy or drowning her.
"What did you make?" Questioning as she stepped back into the kitchen finally, her feet in slippers even. "I'm starving." And she was reaching for a wine glass for a sip, it was a faovrite of hers. "Mmm, it smells perfect." Smiling at the other, even giving a crinkle of her nose as she smiled.
"So! I got big news." And she was excited, sparkling blue eyes said as much. "I got promoted and a raise!" And she was nearly jumping as she stared at the other, glass held in her hand, untouched at the moment as she didn't want to spill it everywhere, she was hoping he'd be as happy as she was. She'd been working towards this for a while now.

"Uh, Chicken alfredo fettuccine bake." He said, staring at her and wanting to kiss her in the moment. But he had to check himself. She had news and he needed to hear it! When she finally did tell him he couldn't help but stop for a moment, feel goosebumps on his arms as the anxiety felt like it was literally washing away over his skin and he couldn't help but say "Oh thank goodness!" He said letting out what he felt was all of the energy he was holding in as he let his head rest on an arm that was now, against all good manners, resting on the table. "That's amazing Key! I'm so happy for you!" He said after he was finally able to take his head off of his arm, the feeling now back in his legs, and walked over to her, putting both of his hands on the side of her head and giving her a long kiss. He wished it would have been longer but there was food to eat and so after removing his mouth from hers moved back over to his chair, holding one hand out so that they could touch each other for a bit if they wanted. "You've been wanting that for a while! I'm glad to see all of your hard work has paid off!" He was happy for her, even if he felt a twinge of guilt. Not that he had done anything bad, but he had been so content with his current job and online calligraphy that he hadn't wanted to go higher. The couple that had been running the store were soon going to retire, and he wasn't sure if he wanted to run it in their place or go fully online. He needed to raise his rates at least. It didn't change his feelings of excitement for her! He was very happy that his girlfriend was doing what she wanted and would be getting more money!

Oh! Derrick looked like he'd just been hit wiith a lot of good news, and that something had been taken off his shoulders. For a moment she did think about it, unsure what had happened, but than he did realize how her note might have sounded. Oh dear, she hadn't really meant that but she'd been rather busy. Well, it explained things if she was right.
For a moment she was surprised, and it showed in her eyes, she had been just opening her mouth to question Derrick when he claimed her mouth with his own. A soft sound escaped her, that was all which had time to escape, before she was being kissed and she was kissing back. Her hands gripped at his shirt as she held tight to him, drawing herself as close as she could to him. When he did pull back she took several moments to catch her breath, letting him lead her towards the table, as she sat down while still holding onto his hand.
"I didn't think I'd get it to be honest." She'd been working with someone else who was equally qualified, but also an a** kisser, and so she'd been worried when the posistion had come up. But she knew she was more serious about thigns. She didn't kiss a** and just happen to be on good terms wit hthe previous district manager, without having to kiss his a** to do so. She had worried though, how could she not?
"The pay raise will be good for us, I got the raise a week or so ago but I was training and I just...I worried it wouldn't work." That she wouldn't be good enough and would have to turn down the position, to go back to a simple sotre manager. But she'd done it and she knew she could continue to do it. "I wanted to make sure before I said anything." And she felt bad for it but she had a good reason for it. "I also need to get some spikes for a pair of boots. I went to my wonder. It's a mine...and the ground is all ice." Or at least a good portion of it. She was going to need it to get down safely next time. She knew it was a big thing for her to have gone there but it had to be done.
"Crystals, it was a crystal mine."

He nodded. "I understand. With the way... other people are, you can never be too sure about something until it's been fully completed." Well, he had wanted to say something like 'companies will fire you for literally any reason because they are a****' but he didn't want to say it out loud. She had gotten the position and they had gone through the trouble of training her to do it. They would be dumb to fire her now. Just as he was about to move a bit of the pasta to his lips his eyebrows shot up in surprised that she had gone to her Wonder. He hadn't imagined she would just... go one day, but perhaps she felt the need to visit it at least once. "Wow. It sounds pretty interesting. The crystals at least." It sounded more interesting than his entire Homeworld. One big city that had been attacked multiple times by a beast and barely had an economy. Yay. "You might bring a crystal back, if you can, and then see what type of spiked boot would work best. You don't want to get one only for you to slip around anyway." He was thinking of where they might get them. For a moment a thought crossed his mind that it would be interesting if there was some sort of Senshi or Knight who could provide equipment for cases such as this. It definitely wasn't his area though. Sleet Tempest Snape Random character ideas popping up in random threads lol

"Exactly, you know I've talked about that other manager a few times." A lot of times really. Sometimes she just needed to vent, because she couldn't say things at work, and the guy liked to kiss a** so much it was hard to respect someone who lowered themselves to such behavior. She had far more respect for herself than to behave like that, for anything, she wans't going to belittle herself for the sake of others feeling important. "I also just worried I wouldn't be able to handle the new duties or that I'd fall short of what is needed." She'd worried and rightfully so but she'd held on and done well.
"I agree though, they will fire people for anything now a days, it's rather scary. You worry about everything you say and do and how someone might twist it to see some fault in it." It made communicating harder than need be. For someone like her, who was blunt and stright to the point it sucked - a lot. It meant her only way of surviving was to not say anything at all, because she was no good with speaking in round about terms or saying what she meant but sugar coating it all with fluffy words.
"I'm not worried about the crystals, though I do want to bring some back for other reasons, it's the ice I need to get a grip on so I can walk." So skipes on the bottoms of her shoes would be a good idea. "I could try and bring some ice back to see if it's different from the ice here and might need a certain spike over another though." But she was thinking of bringing back things from her wonder.

He nodded. "And with the fact that there are basically no worker protection laws over here..." In this country businesses came first, or at least the ones with money. "Even emails have to sound like they are nice and happy all of the time now. I just wish we could ask "Hey, where is this thing?" Without having to add a paragraph that we're asking nicely and that it's totally okay and whatever else." He had run into it quite a bit with deliveries at his store and them being wrong at least. "That makes sense. They should be okay, but if it does act strange then I would definitely bring some back. I'm sure there's someone, or some Mauvian, who would want to study the difference between snow there and snow here." He said before finally taking a bite of what was probably really cold pasta now. At least they had a microwave. "I'm sure you'll find more in there once you're better equipped. I still have yet to go back to my Homeworld even though I know nothing is waiting for me anymore."

"Exactly." So she'd played it as safe as he could and done her best, hoped for the best, and waited things out before telling Derrick. She didn't trust things, including herself for a bit, but she had done well and could manage the new posistion so she was safe now. "You know I can't do nice and happy and beat around the bush. I've never been good at that." Takling a sip of her wine. She was honest and to the point, she didn't have time to beat around the buish and sugar coat things. She rushed from here to there and always seemed to be in a rush of some sort, though she was slowing down a bit because of Derrick. She was enjoying life a bit more with him. But she still loved the rush and the surge of adrenaline. She still needed it.
"That's a good thing, that it's free and clear of danger." She was glad for that, he needed a safe homeworld, so it wasn't looming in the background and haunting him. "I'll bring some ice back but I want to have someone inspect the crystals there too." Because who knows if she might not be able to use those crystals for things here on Earth. Maybe some tech but also maybe other things. A bite of foiod had her humming in pleasure, always so good. It was such a good thing having a partner who could cook, since she wasn't always home to cook for them, it was a job they both took on.
"You should come with me on the next visit, so we can get two sets of shoe spikes."
(Clearly he needs to sneak some crystal away and use it for a ring for her, lol. Just saying.)

He chuckled as he poked at his food. "Yeah I know. But that's also what I love about you." He said as he smiled at her. Another bite was captured and then consumed. He took a sip of wine himself, more relaxed now that his nerves had calmed down a bit. He nodded. "Yes, though I can't say there's much out there, but the city is quite big. I'm sure there are more things I can learn. Just... compared to other Homeworlds, and I know I haven't seen or heard of all of them, so empty." It didn't really have it's own culture outside of training to beat that monster that had been there. "I'd be happy to go with you. I would love to see your Wonder." Even if she didn't think it was anything amazing, he was sure it would be, just like her. He picked up a glass. "How about we toast to your new job and visiting your Wonder for the first time?"

"Most people would be scared to deal with a woman like me." She said, waving her fork about before spearing some food for herself, and eating. She'd heard the teasing at work in the past, years ago, when some wanna be something had said no man would want to date some headstrong female like her who couldn't even be pretend to be nice. He'd also mentioned she was a b***h, once or twice, behind her back but he'd never amounted to anything and had been sent to another store to bother them. She was glad for his departure but it did serve to remind her that not everyone liked someone with her personality; she had gotten lucky.
"I think most homeworlds are empty, they've been sitting abondoned for so long, it's no wonder really." Raising her own glass she smiled at the other, so glad she'd found someone, this war had if nothing else brought her this ans she wouldn't give it up for anything.
"To a new job and my wonder." Clinking her glass to his she took a deep drink from the glass.
"As soon as I can go I'll take your with me." Even if she didn't think it was anything too amazing she knew Derrick would like it, and she had a reason to return. This would be a trip well worth it, she was certain of it.
