Kauff had endured many head wounds in his time and was well aware that even the most shallow nicks to the scalp resulted in a fountain of blood, but it was one thing to know all that and another entirely to stand paralyzed on the path leading up to your house watching your son's shirt soak with blood. The cut had been nothing, patched up and forgotten by most within the hour, but Kauff could just not let it go. Those minutes of panic had stayed with him, which was why he had asked Xariy to ask Eziya if he could stop by the clinic today. Knowing a little more about keeping the kids alive for the long term would certainly help him sleep better at night. He stood staring at the door for a minute or two after he had arrived, finally letting out a soft sigh and giving it a knock. "Hey, I'm here."

Eziya laughed at the gruff sound of Kauff on the other side of the door, amused by the short tone even as she wandered to the door and opened it wide for him. She gave a little wave up at him, motioning for him to follow as she returned back to the supplies she had settled out on the counter. She'd heard from Xariy, all the panic that came from a child's injury, especially a head wound. She was lucky in that aspect when it came to her own children, not really needing to rush to anyone to learn more. She didn't mind teaching others though! It kept her work steady, and helped those wayward children out there and their rough play. "Hey yourself! I pulled out what we'll need for today so just make yourself comfortable. Would you like tea? Or snacks?" Xariy had said Kauff did like snacks.

The offer of snacks did catch his attention, but Kauff wasn't all selfish distraction these days. "Those can be my reward for becoming a Bandage Master," Kauff said with a smirk. "But thanks for your hospitality." Xariy must have mentioned his love of treats, and even though he recognized it as a ridiculous reaction, Kauff felt a little smug at the thought of them talking about him when he wasn't there. "And thank you for doing this. I know I'm never going to be a real healer or anything, but this'll make me feel a little better."

"You don't have to be a real healer to learn the basics! Every little bit counts, especially when it comes to helping out the children. They'll be so impressed that their papa knows how to fix their ouchies even better now," Eziya reassured, smiling as she tugged him over and motioned for him to sit near the table. The best way to treat would be on an actual injury, but she figured Kauff might dislike that. Just a bit. So she wouldn't cut herself yet. "So when your bandaging you want to make sure to keep it firm, but not too tight. If it's too tight it will cut circulation off," she started, pulling the bandage taught as she leaned over to wrap the bandage gently around his arm.

Kauff sat and watched, nodding as Eziya reached to wrap his arm. He was familiar with this part, but he hadn't ever done it for anyone else. "How do I know if it's too tight?" he asked. "They won't have time to be impressed if I'm squishing their little arms off." After a second or two he added, "Not that I'd do that," with a nervous chuckle. "I guess if it stops bleeding it's good to start?"

Eziya gave another nod towards Kauff, grabbing hold of the bandages around his arm and tugging tightly in order to wrap them around more snug. She carefully watched how much circulation she was cutting off as she leaned over and attempted to slide two fingers under the bandages, motioning with her free hand the difficulty she was having as she held it tight. "See this? If you can't fit two fingers into the bandage it's too tight. Obviously for much smaller individuals one finger might be best, but the same concept applies. If it's too tight you see a difference in coloration, or the area around it changes temperature as well you've got a problem. The better you get at it the more easily you'll be able to recognize it as well," Eziya explained, loosening the bandage as it settled more comfortably against his arm.

"Oh. I can do that." It seemed easy, at least. He wouldn't even have to carry around some sort of special medical device, just an excess of bandages. Maybe he could get a belt to hang them from. "I hope I won't get too good at it, but y'know... kids." His kids, specifically. There could be an animal bite at any time. "Can I try?"

Now that Kauff had gotten a bit used to the process, Eziya figured she could step it up a bit in order to let Kauff some more practice. "Now that you've figured it out some, yes. We can get you to try! But a proper wound should be had to figure it out, don't you think?" Eziya pulled a little knife out then, one most certainly taken from Serr's collection, and cut her arm just a tiny bit. Enough to draw blood, but not enough to do any real damage to her. "Go ahead and wrap it. Like I showed you!"

As he watched the blade nick Eziya's skin, Kauff had a fleeting thought that healers were an odd bunch. When he found his attention shifting to appreciate the knife out of habit, he amended that description to 'partners of career thieves' and not healers at all. If she wanted to cut herself just to train him, he wasn't going to discourage her. "Got it."He drew in a breath and held it as he grabbed the bandages and started wrapping. Too loose. Too tight. He frowned at the blood left on the strip of fabric as he made a third attempt, leaning in close and concentrating as he bound Eziya's arm. When he was done, he slid two fingers between the bandage and her skin, nodding at his progress. "Good? I took too long, but I think it went okay in the end."

Eziya nodded at Kauff's handiwork, unperturbed by the blood and instead very enthusiastic about his progress in the little time they had spent together. It had taken him a little bit of time to get it down, but she would say for a first try it had gone surprisingly well. No blood on the floor or anything. She smiled at the bandage, already coming up with some other way to get Kauff to practice. "You did well for a first try! Good job!" Eziya grinned, wandering off to find something smaller for him to test his skills on. If he was learning to work for his kids he'd have to work on something smaller than her arm. Maybe she could stab some fruit...? "What else would you like to learn?"

Kauff nodded with a pleased grin of his own. "Yeah, I thought so." It was going to take him a while to perfect his bandaging technique, but at least he was off to a good start. He paused for a thought, then said, "I'm not sure. I guess I could ask you some quick questions as I keep practicing? About medical stuff." Unfortunately, he was never going to remember what her answers were without writing them down, but there was always the possibility that something she said would come to mind during an emergency. "And then, snacks."

"Questions are good! We like questions!" Eziya grinned, wandering over to one of her cabinets and pulling a book and quill from it. She appreciated Kauff's willingness to learn and his easygoing nature. It made it a lot easier for her to teach since he didn't seem too stressed about the ordeal. She wandered closer again, motioning for him to continue. "Go ahead. Ask away. Or keep practicing. Whatever you want. I'm here for you today!"

"Okay." Kauff looked himself over, deciding to wrap up his leg this time. And as for questions... "I guess to start, what do you do for animal bites? Not snakes or anything rabid. More like poscutas. Or birds, maybe?"It was weird winding the bandage around a larger limb, but he forced himself to slow down and do it correctly. He could probably be this calm while helping someone else, but not without a lot more practice.

"A disinfectant for certain! Even the cleanest of animals can carry things we don't even know about!" Eziya started, going back over to her cabinets and pulling out some linen gauze and a small bottle of ointment. She wandered back over to Kauff and held the items up. She was glad she kept things stocked, eager to be the most helpful to everyone. "You can have this. You put some ointment on the gauze and clean it, and then you can wrap it like normal if it's needed."

"Oh, nice. Thanks!" Kauff felt a little bit bad taking medical supplies, but maybe there was something he could do around the clinic to pay Eziya back. Paint the walls, or something? "How about burns? I've always just held them under cold water for a while."
