The city felt oddly empty now that the festival had come to an end. All the decorations were gone and things had gone back to the normal state of boring city hustle and bustle. Or as normal as a city could be, considering there were others like him, who could power up and wander about at night without supervision.
Kiringul was by the fountain at a park, minding his own business as he usually did while wandering about in this getup. He’d gotten used to it, and on closer inspection it reminded him a bit of his cultural roots which made him actually sort of like it.
“Not sure what this is about, though,” he said of the little accessory hanging off the belt. He would have said more when he sensed the blip of an unfamiliar energy signature just nearby. It was different than all the others he’d sensed up until that point (which may not be saying a lot since he was still pretty new to this) so he changed trajectory and headed toward whoever it was, curious about who he might encounter.
Maybe it was someone who might have an idea about who designed these outfits.

Vesuvianite's step had a little spring in it as he snuck his way around the city. With starfest over, the nightlife had gone back to normal, thank god. It had been so hard to harvest energy when people were so... wide awake and alert and much less drunk at two in the morning than they were normally. He felt pretty darn good about themself today, having collected nearly enough for his weekly quota, too. He surveyed the park, seeking another victim—er, donater—and prowled forward quietly. At least, until he felt the White Moon aura headed to them. They sighed, refocusing and planting their feet for a fight, raising their stupid orange plastic chisel defensively. "Who's out there?" he shouted, scowling into the dark.

It was hard to believe his pink outfit was hard to see in the dark, but all the same when the question came Kiringul came to a stop. The person he had sensed was standing just a few feet away now, holding up some orange…something…and looking about ready for a fight, scowl and stance and all.
Kiringul pulled on a scowl of his own. He was just walking this way and this guy’s already trying to pick a fight?
“Kiringul,” he shouted back, and got into something of a fighting stance as well. Not that he knew how to fight, but this guy didn’t know that. “And who're you supposed to be?”

Vesuvianite scoffed a bit, narrowing their eyes. Wow, this guy... looked interesting. Good, he had a name, at least, maybe he could update the database or something. "Your worst nightmare," he retorted, throwing themself forward and striking out with his chisel, hoping to hit Kiringul on the cheek or stab this guy in the eye—something, anything. He needed to win this fight. To prove he was worthy of being chosen to be in the Negaverse.

He was almost embarrassed to hold up his cone, but he did anyway. The guy had a chisel for a weapon. Granted a space could do actual damage, it wasn’t too far off from being as silly a weapon as his own.
Their response only deepened his scowl.
“Nah, can’t be. You don’t look anything like my ex,” he said as he attempted to throw a punch. The motion might have made it painfully obvious that he was by no means a fighter. “You might have to settle for second-worst.”

... Damn, why did that have to be so funny? It almost startled a laugh out of him, but the punch landed and he groaned, staggering back and clutching his jaw. "I'll take it," they said, kicking their foot up in an attempt to kick the side of the page's knee in. Come on, come on! Just give in, let Vesuvianite take some energy, or just lay there for a minute so he could get away, he begged inside his mind. Fighting was so much scarier than they'd thought, okay! They hadn't really had a proper fight until now and it really ******** sucked.

The sense of satisfaction after landing the punch was short-lived, both because punching people hurt his hand, too, but also because he was distracted enough by that pain that the kick connected.
Kiringul’s knee buckled at the contact, and he groaned as he fell, landing on the same knee and adding on to the pain already radiating up his leg. He grimaced at the contact, now distracted by that pain, too.
People did this for a living?!

This was it! His opportunity! He rushed forward, thrust his hand into the Page's chest, and— Stopped abruptly. Could he really do something like that? Could he just... steal a starseed? Kill someone? Watch their body go limp, drop to the ground, lifeless? ... No. But he had to bluff this off, or something, right? He couldn't just do something like this (sticking your hand in another guy's chest was NOT flirting, he was not stupid) and not need to extort the guy for something. He didn't want to kill, not just yet. He didn't think he was ready for something like that. So... what could he do? Well, obtain information, he could put the guy's name into the database if he wasn't in there already... And steal some energy. "All I want is your name and some energy," he said soothingly. "I don't want to kill anyone, okay?"

It was a bizarre sensation, having someone’s hand somehow in your chest. Uncomfortable didn’t even come close, but it wasn’t quite painful, either. And no, it definitely wasn’t flirting.
He felt instantly weak, though, and suddenly worried for his life. The guy was trying to hurt him, after all, and given that he now seemed to be at the other’s mercy it was hard to imagine that the worst wasn’t about to be done to him.
“I already gave you my name,” he said through gritted teeth, “and I’m not sure how to give you energy but take it. Just…please, don’t kill me.” He wasn’t so proud as to be unable to plead for his life. He had people to live for, his daughter chief among them, and then of course his mom. And there was the matter of his roommate, as well.

Oh, right. Kiringul had said his name earlier. Well, that was just embarrassing. So much for sounding cool, ugh... "I won't kill you. I promise," he said softly, cheeks reddening from his own embarrassment. He quickly drained some energy off, leaving Kiringul with enough wits about him to get home (hopefully). "Others may not be so nice." And with that warning, they disappeared into the night as fast as he could.

This feeling was a little bizarre, being slowly sapped of energy. It was like his body sped forward through an entire day in a matter of seconds. His mind became hazy, his body sluggish, and by the end of it he was on both knees and seated as though he was a formal setting for some kind of cultural event that his mom had asked him to accompany her to.
He even looked the part, granted he was a more vibrant pink than such events typically called for.
Kiringul didn’t notice that the lieutenant had gone red in the face at the start, however it became painfully obvious when he’d gone. There was a certain aura that was very noticeably missing, like a gaping, man-shaped hole in a tapestry depicting a night scene in a park. “Something to remember for the future,” he said as he sat there, barely able to sit up. His legs were already going numb, as they often did when he sat like this, but he didn’t have it in him to move just yet.
It took a while before he could move and finally head home, and he took that time to memorize the now-missing aura and compare it with his own.
Next time, he’d be able to tell the difference.
