Ushiruin 1
He sat contemplating life in the shade of an old palm tree. The whispers of the wind through the leaves was soul soothing. He used his magic to make a small column of sea water dance in front of him. He heard not his Father's approach. He was too deep in thought to pay much attention to his surroundings where he was safe.
He was a full fledged elementalist now and he delighted in his new found magical skills. They had taken hard work and no small amount of concentration. He was diligent but also more relaxed in some ways so it took a bit more self control to learn magic which was equal parts study and practice.

Ushiwa 1
He wasn't sneaking up on his son, no nothing like that. If he kept telling himself that, eventually it would be true. He lurked and watched, using trees and bush as cover. He was very proud of Ushiruin but his current parenting style with his son at this tender age made him want to see if Ushiruin could be encouraged to be all that he could be. That precluded sappyness on Ushiwa's part, not that he was sappy with his daughters but he had a lot more patience for their shenanigans. Though he was grateful that Ushiruin was not as spicey as the triplets were. Stepping carefully, avoiding snapping twigs. His orange eyes saw that Ushiruin had been gifted with magic which ran thick in their family lines. More so from Nin and no small amount from Kiyelt. Honi was also quite gifted. He emerged from the bush beside his son.

Ushiruin 2
His head jerked at the sneaky slinky arrival of his Father. The column of dancing water collapsed with a fwump back into the sea. His concentration had been broken. He still had issues with holding his magic steady when distractions were about. Especially distractions this big. There had always been a certain amount of friction between himself and his Dad. That was perhaps slowly getting better over time. He felt like they had too many similiarities but Ushiwa forgot sometimes that Ushiruin could make his own decisions and was a free thinking being. He was convinced the girls had less expectations.
"Dad.. to what do I owe the pleasure of your company?" There that hadn't sounded too insolent had it? He had suppressed the moan very well.

Ushiwa 2
Not for the first time he regretted the friction of testosterone between himself and his son. It should fade with time as they both matured further, but they were cut from similar cloth, though Ushiruin's personality differed from his and Kechiri's. He was more protective than ambitious. More free of heart then they were. Which along with their similarities made Ushiruin easy and hard for him to understand at the same time. Though it tended to lean toward not understanding. For all the world his son reminded him slightly of his brother Thal.
He held up his hands in mock innocence. "I just came to check on you."

"Oh well, thanks I guess." He had no idea why it was always so awkward between himself and his Dad, he was pretty sure it was because he was more relaxed than Ushiwa, and that perhaps his Dad was from a different generation. His mom understood him quite well but well, she was his Mom it was her job.
He wished she were here now, to deal with Dad. It was hecking awkward and he felt like creeping away to hide under a nice bush with just his own thoughts for company but in another sense he knew his Dad loved him and was in his own Ushiwa way trying to help. He knew that his Dad was proud to have him as a son vaguely even though it was a son that was hard for him to understand well.

He took a deep breath, he was about to bare his soul in a way he never had to before. To another male. It was to his son so it was important that he do it. And it was important to him that Ushiruin knew just how much Ushi cared about him. He loved the little brat with all of his heart. They just had different ways of going about life. Ushi was all about rules, (at least those made by his family and himeself, the moral compass which they had inherited from their parents), where his son was more relaxed in all ways.
"What I mean to say is...that I... Love you." He hugged Ushiruin to him in a sudden swift motion and made sure it was a real hug. That better conveyed his emotions.
"I am sorry that I have a hard time expressing emotions some days, no one gave me an instruction book." He patted Ushiruin's back awkwardly. But he meant it all.

He felt that the hug was a true one and immediatley his heart jumped. He had hoped he hadn't been a disgrace and this was proof positive that his fears had all been for naught. He hugged his Father back tightly and it was one of those hugs that was a good 40% longer than a normal hug and had way more meaning. He was grateful that his Dad was being so ....communicative might be the best word.
"I love you too Dad, always have." He had not been expecting this at all and he basically could not wait to tell his Mom what had happened.
He knew his Dad showered his sisters in love but well, daughters were a might different in some ways than sons and his Dad had somewhat old school values.

He was so happy that his son had immediately responded and warmed up, apparently this whole time it was all he had had to do. Well blow him down and call him dusty.
He knew that a lot of his attitude had been because Elaxi had been stolen, but because she was back with her family and slowly healing in her own way, he felt better about everything in general. Now it was up to him to express his love to his other children and let them know just how much they all meant to him. His heart was filling with dare he say joy? A most obscure emotion but it felt good in a strange and very powerful way.
Some of it may have been trying to leak out of his eyes.

He could see that over time his father was recovering from the terrible place he had been in for years when Elaxi was gone. Yes he had had more kids but more children did not replace lost children. Now that his elder sister was back, his Dad was adjusting back to a well balanced life and Ushiruin was very happy for him.
He wasn't sure exactly where his own life would take him, but if he found a life as good or half as good as his Dad's he would be doing very well. He wanted badly to travel and see what distant shores held for him. There was just so much out there and he wanted to see it all.
He patted his Dad on the shoulder. "You are doing great." He said sincerely. Opening up was hard at the best of times for some people nevermind his Dad the control freak.

"Am I?" He had no real clue. The people he was closest too were female and he competed heavily with Thallassa who could care less on most days as he was super happy go lucky, where he was always trying to prove himself in everything that he did. It was his driving force and his mantra.
"Well, would you come with me to check the janarim? The big brown finally laid a clutch and your Aunt isn't here to sweet talk her so we get to do it the hard way."
He winced. Bronhilda was a fiery janarim from wildstock. He wasn't even sure how his Dad had got her down here.
When in doubt check on the beasts in your care, something interesting always happened at that point. It was part of what had kept him going for so long.

He unfolded himself from the ground and rose. "Sure that sounds good." Critter checks were omnipresent on the farm. Everyone had some sort of daily chores when they were home just to keep things growing, though they had hired some outside help now so it wasn't as much work as it used to be. Probably in anticipation of some of them leaving as Kechiri had to pursue her own career.
They walked over to the janarim section of the ranch, which kept getting larger with their breeding program proving successful in the Matori climate. He was rather proud of it even if he hadn't chosen beast tamer as a career. He loved the sea just a squidge more.
He still loved the critters but he needed be a tamer to fully enjoy them. Though he did love having familiars.

The brown janarim looked up with resting cranky face as they approached. She had been going in and out of labor for a while and she was hecking cranky about her babies not coming on time. He couldn't blame her she was quite a round girl at this point.
"Hey lady, are your babies stuck? Should we get Mama Nin or Sister Ein over here for you?" She glared hotly at him and he did not relish getting in the pen with her. He had skill of his own but it was better in situations like this to get the others over too.
"For now we can fix her up a bit of herbal remedy for comfort while she waits." He turned and dragged his son with him to the barn. There he grabbed a few different herbs and got to chopping.

He was always fascinated with the herbal portion of beast healing. He was often dragged in as a helper in such situations because of his over all calm demeanor. He always learned a lot each time he was but it was rare to be doing it with his Dad. The janarim's situation hadn't changed so it was time like his Dad said to call in the big guns. Grandma would surely have some sort of solution for this.
He helped with the herbs and did as directed. Enjoying for once some time with his Dad. It felt better now that they had opened up a little bit, it really showed growth on his Dad's part and he was happy for it. Happy for the closer relationship they could achieve with it.
He worked with a smile on his face and soon enough the herb supplement was ready.

He climbed in and forced the herbs down the recalcitrant beasts gullet and stroked her throat until she begrudgingly swallowed, hissing the whole time for his benefit.
He let go and excited the pen, he didn't blame her for her anger at everything at the moment, birthing was at best an eventful process, no less when something was wrong. There were onlookers where most critters preferred to slink off alone.
"She will be alright once grandma sees to her, she will come soon to attend." He had all the faith in the world in his Mother. She had skill and experience.
"She still has a lot of energy so I'm not too concerned. Might be her last year of breeding though if this is what happens."

He nodded and his stomach chose that instant to rumble insistantly. "I guess its time for breakfast." He blushed. They were both good cooks. "I'll get some sausage and eggs and greens for breakfast." He would cook a nice meal for them. He liked pulling directly from the garden and the family larder it was always refilling itself as their family were avid hunters with a huge garden and a focus on self sustainability.
He did enjoy cooking, of course he was perennially hungry too, so that helped. He raced to the garden and pulled some leafy greens and washed them in the ever flowing basin where fish munched the scraps and helped them clean.
Then he went to the cool room and pulled some sausage down. Then he headed for the house.
