It was already late in the evening but the merchant seemed unfazed by the passing of time. He sat, poised and elegant, watching the world around him. He didn’t seem bored, even as he leaned forward and laced his fingers atop the table; below it, he kept his toe tapping to some silent tune in his head. He was tall, by human standards, though while sitting down he didn’t seem particularly threatening. If you didn’t look at his face.

He had graceful features--sharp and refined. His chin and nose tapered to a point, giving him an air of sophistication, but that, combined with his slitted eyes and pointed teeth, there was something undeniably predatory about him. He watched with a hungry gaze and a mischievous, nearly sinister smile. His ears were pointed and were prominent despite being tucked behind his vibrant, multi-colored hair. The most intrusive feature that indicated there was something not human about him were the curling horns protruding from his temples and the oil-slick black scales that brushed his cheeks and forehead. He was well dressed, in a fashion obviously otherworldly, and seemed to enjoy dressing himself up in glistening gemstones.

His table was somehow both simple and overwhelming; it was draped in a dark purple tablecloth, with extravagant embroidery in different designs. Scattered neatly atop the table was an array of items that seemed to carry some magical weight to them.

He did not seem intimidated in the slightest and, upon noticing that the barrier surrounding him rippled when his visitor entered, he smiled.

He did not rise to meet them nor adjust his position in the slightest. He followed them with his fierce eyes and greeted, in a silky voice, “Welcome.”

Kianna had been contemplating visiting the trader for a few days now, as she held on to this pod she had collected from that weird tree. Finally she knew she couldn't wait any longer as the event was ending. So she grabbed her backpack from the table and quickly put the pod inside before she raced out the door. She had figured out his location somewhat, and it took her a few minutes before she reached the area she was told he was located in. She looked around, and that was when she saw him!

The table looked very elegant in her eyes, which made sense since the person sitting at the table had very graceful features. She was actually surprised by the way he looked. She hadn't expected someone so much well like him. The surprise took her a little bit off guard, as she quickly shook her head, and approached the table. With a smile of admiration, she stepped towards the table to meet him.

"Hello my name is Kianna - is there where I can trade in the pod at?" she asked kindly as she took off her backpack and unpacked the pod into her arms. She hoped she was doing this right. This was her first Star Fest so she was kind of winging it with how she was supposed to trade.

“It is! Greetings, Kianna. It’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Almadel. Come closer, let me take a good look at that. Just a quick appraisal. I’m glad you brought this in, my stock was starting to run low.”

He didn’t try to rush her into handing it over, but he politely held out his hand to receive it.

“Thankfully, I’ve got many wonderful treasures to trade in exchange. Are you looking for anything in particular tonight? Or just here to browse? I’m rather good at helping my customers find something worthwhile when they trade with me. I’d like to help you, too.”

Kianna breathed a breath of relief as she heard the voice. She was so happy she had at least found the right place. She stepped forward one foot at a time. Once she got a bit close, she gently pushed the pod into the traders hand.

"It's nice to meet you Almadel!" she said kindly with a smile as the pod left her hand. When he asked what she wanted. It took her a moment to think before responding, "Hmm ... well I would love something that has to do with my birth parents. However, I am not sure if you have items like that in stock. So in that case I'm happy to take a look at what you have to offer."

She had to be honest while she would love some help on her quest, she was really just excited to be apart of this star fest trade. She couldn't wait to see what the trader had to offer. She had heard so many stories about the star fest trader and the rare items he had. She was determined to find something special. She knew this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to find something truly unique.

Almadel accepted the pod readily, and kept his eyes fixed to it as he rotated it. There were no visible blemishes for him to observe, so he already seemed pleased to make an exchange for this.

“Oh, high expectations.”

He placed the pod on the table, just so she knew that he wasn’t stealing it, and cupped his chin in his hand as he leaned back to look at her.

For a few seconds, he just tapped his finger on his cheek and seemed deep in thought.

Finally, he seemed to have come to some silent conclusion and nodded. He stood up and went to a box behind him, and when he returned he placed it in his lap and began to root around.

“There are, what, eight billion people on Earth these days? And you want something from two of them. A one in four billion odds is quite the request.”

He pulled out a smaller box, black onyx and with an illegible script on the top. It seemed dusty, and he brushed his fingers atop of it to clean it. He pressed his thumbs into the side of it and waited. There was a soft mechanical clicking, and the box opened after a few long seconds.

He perked up immediately, however, and as soon as it snapped open, he stretched his fingers to scooped out a dirty and tarnished locket. For a moment, he scrutinized it, and then he pulled out a silk handkerchief as he began to wipe it clean. It looked like it might have spent some time in the dirt, or in some attack, or just under some debris, but it nearly shined by the time he was done with it.

He didn’t try to open it; instead, he passed it over. “What do you think of this?”

Kianna knew she was asking for a lot with her request. She just knew that it was the one thing she wanted that she couldn't obtain through hard work. She sad on the edge of her seat as she watched him think. She really hoped deep inside that he had something that could help her. No matter how small the item may be she needed any clue she could get. It was finding to be an impossible task to find her blood parents. Part of her thought she might never, that was until she heard the trader speak.

"I know it is, and I appreciate your help with it. Even if you can't do it I definitely understand," she said with a smile. She wanted him to know that even if it came up empty. Well she was happy he tried. Trying was good enough for her.

Then she saw the box appear, her eyes widened as she watched him open it. That was when she saw it. A dirty locket. As he wiped it clean she could see its gleam. The locket looked beautiful - could it have something to do with her parents?

She saw his hands and gently grabbed the locked from him. She slowly opened it and saw two images inside covered in dirt. She gently wiped the photo on the right just a tad and when she did. Well she saw someone who looked almost exactly like her! A female with green hair and a face just like hers. She was in amazement, and as much as she wanted to uncover the other photo. She wanted to take it home and make sure it was properly done. She had no intention of wrecking her first real clue.

"I think this is perfect! I don't know how you did it, but thank you. This is more than I could ever ask for," she said happily with tears starting to form in her eyes. She wiped them, and said, "You have no idea what you've done. I hate to trade and run. But I need to go home and look this over more. I am so sorry but thank you. You've made this event an unforgetable one!" She waited until he responded that the trade was good. Once he did - she was out of there faster than lightning!
