Nature’s Boon (10) : Flowers are blooming at an incredible place across the city and sometimes barren patches of grass can be overrun with flowers overnight. There have been heavy showers and a high pollen count but there doesn’t appear to be any other explanation. It is not uncommon to find trees with nearly double the leaves they usually have, with vines twisting up houses, flowers covering the front yard, or local fruits to have doubled in size. This isn't the first time Destiny City has seen such oddities, and there doesn’t seem to be any negative effects to this; scientists are questioning climate change. Or is it radiation??

He was hurt because of her. He had gotten injured because she hadn’t protected him. Hadn’t taught him well enough. He had nearly died because she wasn’t there! Dessie knew he was fine now but what if Ida hadn’t shown up? What if he hadn’t been saved. He would have died. Died there under a tree, she had gotten the story from him, with none the wiser as to what exactly happened. Gone. Just like that. No warning, no way to fix it, no way to correct it. No way to help. Just… gone.
And there wasn’t a damn thing she could do about it. Nate insisted that he was fine, that he didn’t need the help or the company, not since being released from the hospital. He had been sheepish and contrite at least for a few days but now… now, he seemed to be tired of being treated like an invalid. Personally she wanted to treat him like the idiot he was. She was told that doing that wasn’t the best idea. Something about making him defensive or the like. Honestly she just wanted to make sure he never did anything like that again. She never wanted to get a call like that. Her whole world had felt like it had dropped away when she heard ‘there was an accident’.
That feeling didn’t elevate any when she saw him in the hospital room. He was bandaged and bruised and was even dealing with a punctured lung, and yet he still seemed to be in good spirits. Dessie honestly wanted to shake him, smack him, or just punch him but instead she just cried. Nate was rather awkward dealing with her tears but then again so was she since crying wasn’t something she did, at least not before she had gotten pregnant. Now… it still wasn’t often but tears were more common. Hormone levels. At least that's what she told herself. Even now, quite a few days after the incident, she felt her eyes welling up slightly.
The unhappy half cry from the baby carriage had Dessie focus on her daughter rather than her rapidly darkening thoughts. The infant was fussy but not fully crying yet, something fixed with some attention and a pacifier. With a sigh the young mother wiped at her damp eyes while informing her child, “Your daddy is an idiot. Brave, but an idiot. What will we do with him?” Train with him. Patrol with him. Protect him. That's all she could do and even that was limited to the time she was with him.
“Gahhh,” The infant waved her arms around and made grabby hands towards a bright flower that the house they were passing was growing. Large flowers… very, very large flowers. Dessie absently distracted her infant with a more child appropriate toy even as she eyed the huge plants. It wasn’t the only yard that had such abundance of greenery. Something was off that was for sure but she couldn’t detect anything. “Come on darling, let's go see your daddy,” She said absently as she hurried away from the insane growth, not willing to even contemplate what kind of magical insanity that caused such vibrancy.
Dessie pulled her phone out, hastily shoving her keys with their little opal star charm on it back into her pocket, and texted Nate real quick. No reason to surprise the guy. Besides, she was out and about. If he needed her to get anything now was the perfect time. If only it was possible to just ‘pick up’ fighting skills like it was produced.
If ifs and ands were pots and pans, there'd be no work for tinkers' hands.
