“You’re truly annoying.” Xylia hissed between clenched teeth as she clashed blades against the annoying hybrid who had thought to tag along in her mission. The pair were currently fighting in a dark warehouse along the edge of Jatine, the docks a perfect place for smugglers trying to get in and out of Oba. Xylia had been investigating a rather secretive group that were hired by a corrupted noble when this purple haired nuisance interrupted her. His timing couldn’t have been any worse! Shoving against him, Xylia pushed back with her dual blades in an attempt to get some space as she tried to break free of the corner that he had put her in during their fight.

“Am I?” Valek let out a chuckle as he braced himself for another shove. He had worked swiftly so that he could place the vigilante in a corner, but it looked like she had figured out his tactic and was quickly trying to escape the tighter space. “Last time I checked this was my mission. Why are you even here?” He hissed out the words, his own annoyance growing since he had spotted this woman at least twice now while roaming about Jatine. Did she simply find it fun to follow him into these dangerous situations? She wasn’t part of his organization so who was she?!

Ugh, why wouldn’t he back off?! Xylia’s bi-colored gaze narrowed in frustration as she faked another sword attack but instead twisted at the last second to kick at his legs. “We’re wasting time here! What if the ship leaves?” She had already seen them loading cargo earlier onto the ship and surely the crew was about to set sail. Was this little spat necessary when they should be getting the criminals instead? “I keep telling you that I’m not part of the smugglers!”

“I know you’re not, but you insisted on swinging your blades at me.” Quipped back Valek. “Keep this up and I may actually believe you’re part of the crew!” He winced as the kick connected and let out a swear whenever the action actually made him stumble backwards, the kick actually causing him to lose balance. When did I piss off On’os so that this woman would keep showing up!? She was making such a simple mission so much more complicated! It was one thing to fight the smugglers now, but another thing entirely to let them do their thing so that he could track it back to the source.

“Only because you wouldn’t let me stop them!” Retorted Xylia, her temper flaring again even as she tried to move past him now that he had finally stumbled backwards. “Why are you just letting them set sail?” She couldn’t understand it! Wasn’t it best to capture them now and ask questions later? This whole sneaking around thing and then just watching drove her insane. What did he do if they slipped away or worse harmed others before he finally shut down the operation?

A sigh left Valek’s lips. This frustrating woman and her impatience made him nearly lose his own. “Because if I don’t they can’t be properly tracked to their partner. What are you planning to do? Just tie them up and hope someone comes along that can properly report it?” He replied with a slight roll of his gaze, the hybrid pushing away from the crate he had brushed up against while stumbling backwards. Despite the very sharp swords in her hands, Valek had put his back into their sheathes so that he could grab at her wrist. “Can’t you at least take a moment to listen?” What type of vigilante menace was this woman!?

“Ma-maybe!” Replied Xylia with a hiss as her wrist was grabbed. Dammit! She had gotten distracted listening to him and had let him catch back up! Why had she even slowed down to listen to this annoying arse? Their last couple of encounters in the underground of Sulburi had been a hot mess and now he was even in Jatine interfering with her missions. “If I tie them up then surely the boat would have documentation about their sponsor and the authorities can take it from there. What more is there to even listen to? You’ll just ramble on and on before slipping away like usual.”

“I slipped away once.” Replied Valek with another eyeroll, his grip loosening as Xylia brushed him off but stayed still. “The tavern was crowded and honestly you were really annoying me by trying to interfere with my surveillance of a target. The second time you set a fire and then left me to pick up the mess.” His voice was low, his gaze fierce as he spat the words as loudly as he dared considering their current situation. “If you turn them over now then we can’t gather enough evidence. It’s obvious they have dummy papers, I’ve dealt with this particular type before.” He explained. It was best to just catch the corrupted noble with his hand in the actual candy jar…so to speak. Valek had a plan, if only this woman would stop and listen! Which admittedly she was listening….as wary as the thought made him.

“That’s frustrating.” Acknowledged Xylia with a sigh, her gaze darting for a moment towards the pier before back to Valek just in case he tried to slip away again. The ship was mostly loaded now and it wouldn’t surprise her to see it leave within the next few minutes. It was already so late, the moon was the only light above the port with the ocean waters dark and glistening here and there from starlight before clouds blocked out everything once more. “So you let them sail away and then what? How does that gather evidence?” As much as she hated simply letting them sail away, Xylia was also curious about the other hybrid’s plan. From their few encounters she had already learned he was a crafty and sneaky one, as much as it irritated her there were certain perks to his skills in these situations.

“Easy. I catch up to the ship and tag along while leaving breadcrumbs for the authorities.” Valek expressed with a smirk, noticing that the vigilante’s blades had lowered to her sides instead of being aimed directly at his throat like usual. “They have a hidden drop off location and finding it is crucial. The paperwork on board will probably be normal trades like spices and such, but the real cargo is hidden beneath that with more evidence and the sponsor waiting at the true dropoff.”

“You just plan on getting onto the boat from here? Can you fly or something?” Xylia quirked a brow before shaking her head. “I should have known better than to waste time like this.” She sighed, her hands tightening around her dual blades again as she prepared to move forward. “There’s still time to catch them now before the anchor is raised.” She could just tie them up and report them here. True documents and such be damned.

“Will you stop?” Valek let out a hiss of frustration as he took a step towards the vigilante. “Just come with me and we’ll get on the boat. I can hide us.” He admitted as he reached for her wrist again, acting reckless to try and make a point as he dragged her forward. Shadows seemingly pulled away from the ground to wrap around them and the air around them seemed different as if all sound was getting bounced away as well. Valek led Xylia past a stack of crates and a couple of last second smugglers who were rushing towards the ramp without even pausing as the pair of hybrids kept moving forward.

What? Xylia opened her mouth and then closed it as she realized that no sound was coming out. She wanted to break away, but another part of her was intrigued enough to allow the other hybrid to guide her through the docks and onto the ship. They were on the ship! Her bi-colored gaze widened with surprise as she shot her companion a look. The air had gotten so heavy around them and the area was so dark that she had been certain the sky was completely blotted out with clouds, but the moon was still shining above them somehow. Had he pulled the shadows around them? How was that even possible? She knew magic users existed, but she had never dealt with something like this before.

A knowing look crossed Valek’s features, the hybrid amused at the obvious reaction to his abilities. He did hate revealing that he could pull shadows, but it was necessary in this situation since the vigilante was refusing to listen to him and he had to bring her along. Slipping past the upper decks was easy enough and Valek already knew about a spot on the ship that the smugglers would ignore, the bottom storage room useless when they were actually just stowing some illegal materials across the port to some meet-up between Jatine and Matori. There was no true ocean voyage for this vessel, just the illusion of one. Eventually he found the door and after glancing around, the shadow user quickly picked the lock and ushered the vigilante inside with him where he promptly closed the door and made certain that they were safely hidden before pulling back his abilities. “And here we are.”

And here they were indeed. Xylia pursed her lips, swallowing back a sharp comment as she opted to instead glance about the room they were now inside. It was mostly empty shelves, some musty things she would rather not peek at, and a few scattered moldy crumbs of whatever food was once stored here for a previous ocean voyage. “They truly weren’t planning on taking a long trip.” She mused with a look of disdain as she finished glancing about. Gross. She knew that they were smugglers but couldn’t they keep a better ship than this?
