The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it’s incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it.

The crowd at the bar made up the majority of the background noise, the music pulsing out from the speakers covered the rest. It was hard to even think clearly let alone have a conversation. Just the way she liked it. Let the throb of the base move your body as the mass of humanity danced around you. Get lost in the beat and the heat. Laughter would echo every now and then. It made her feel alive. It made her feel young. It made her feel… period.

Shannon was there to review the club, to write up a story about this new rooftop ‘hot spot’, and she was enjoying her time. The city heat was oppressive but since the sun set quite some time ago the warmth had rapidly dissipated and now it was quite nice out. Lights flashed and twirled in time to the music even as drinks flowed. Those were a bit overpriced but she wasn’t about to rag on the place too much for that, although the little star charms they added to ‘house’ drinks were quite cute. They had to make their margins somewhere, they sure weren’t making it on the cover charge. The DJ was good, he kept the beat going as he shifted from song to song, knowing just what his clientele liked. The silver haired woman absently vibed to the music as she sipped her drink, fingers fiddling with the green charm that came with her drink. This place was pretty nice.

“Oh look!” A cry came from the dancefloor as an arm pointed to the sky. More than one person looked up, Shannon included, and saw several meteors streak across the clear sky. She heard various exclamations of ‘pretty’ and ‘neat’ and way too many, ‘make a wish!’. Shannon of course stayed silent as she observed the celestial rain, absently noting that it wasn’t just streaks of white going across the sky that night but flashes of other colors as well. That was new. She didn’t care enough to actually do anything more than just watch the show even as the crowd continued to dance around her.

“Pretty ironic isn’t it?” A voice came from her side. Shannon glanced over and gave the younger man a raised brow look. He wasn’t bad looking. Might be worth a few hours of entertainment. “The meteors and everything?” She didn’t actively engage with him, curious to see how he would react to a female barely giving him the time of day. “Well because the club and everything?” He absently waved at the dance floor and seemed to shift uncertainty.

Finally deciding to give the kid a break Shannon smiled and nodded, “‘Starfall’. Yeah I get it.” It wasn’t particularly clever but it wasn’t exactly like she was there looking for Stephen effing Hawking. She technically wasn’t even there looking for anyone, just there to work. Then again it was always worth mixing work with pleasure in her book. It would make the completed work that much better.

“I’m Shannon, what's yours?”
