“You know you really should be more polite to people.” She said as they walked through the streets of the market. After their earlier encounter and her learning that her little brother was rude to others it made her frown and really think about things. She knew their mothers didn’t allow such a thing.

He scoffed. “Yeah. Don’t try to lecture me, please.” He didn’t want to hear about manners from his older sister. Not after she thought it was okay to leave with nothing other than a note. Talk about rude. “Besides, the shifter and I knew each other. Its fine.” He shrugged his shoulders.

“Even if you know one another you should be nicer. Or do you not get along.” Then again if they didn’t get along she wouldn’t think her brother would have veered off course to talk with her. Of course this was her moody brother she was talking about. Who knew why he did half of what he did.

“Hm, we get along. At least.. For the most part.” The last time he’d seen the shifter he was fairly certain he’d teased her. Not in a horrible way but enough to be annoying. Still he lifted his shoulders again. “Doesn’t really matter. You and I are going shopping now.” He didn’t want to be lectured any longer so he hoped a change in subject would work.

She knew her brother was trying to distract her. After a second of thinking it over she decided it was best to allow him to change the subject. After all, she was still on thin ice with her siblings. It was getting better with each day but she knew it would take time and trust. “Alright. Lead the way. I’d like to find a nice blanket or two.”

When he heard her say she wanted a blanket he gave her a sarcastic look. “Seriously?” How could she say she wanted to buy stuff for her own home and then just go with a blanket? He expected her to want to look for pots for cooking and chairs for sitting. Things a house needed to be functional and not… empty.

“Yes..?” She answered him with a bit of hesitation. “Why? Is there something wrong with wanting a blanket?” Did he have something against her having one? Or did he have something else in mind for their shopping trip? It was hard to tell with him honestly. It wasn’t like he shared his thoughts often.

“Nothing wrong with having a blanket but you know Mom and Mama are already going to give you one.. Right?” If she didn’t know that then she needed to seriously stop and think about that. Their mothers had plenty of blankets for all their kids. “I figured you’d want to look at chairs or tables.. Maybe a bed.” He glanced toward her. Did she not know what she needed for a house?

After a second she laughed and nodded her head. “I suppose you are right. I didn’t really think about that.” If anything she would likely be loaded down with all kinds of stuff from their mothers. “Ah.. I should probably look at beds. May need to custom order one since I’m taller than most earthlings.” And it would be bad if she were left without something just because she hadn’t thought to look into it.

“You think?” He looked up at her again as if to point out that she was taller. He was on the shorter side, his earthling traits showing there. It was likely that Ika would be taller than him when they were done growing. Of course with him being a hybrid he’d never be as tall as a full blooded Alk. “Lets go find the carpenter then.” He motioned for her to lead the way.

She smiled at him as he seemed to be able to tell her what it was she needed for a house. “Look at you being all knowledgeable.” A chuckle left her but she reached over to ruffle his dreads. “Thank you for coming with me. I don’t think I would have thought of the bed thing..” Blanket, sure, bed not so much. Even the table and chairs was a good idea. Yet another thing she’d not thought of.

“My sister is just an idiot..” He huffed at her and swatted her hand away from his hair. He might be the little brother but he didn’t want her to mess up his look. After righting his hair he half glared at her from the side. “I’m starting to wonder if you even should live on your own. You might forget that you need food to cook with.”

She frowned at him. “I’m not an idiot. I just wasn’t thinking about the bigger stuff…” When she’d went to plant the new tree she hadn’t had that stuff with her. Just a few necessities. And she’d been fine without anything else. Of course she hadn’t had a house either. This time she was going to get a house to stay in so that her family could visit. “I would have figured it out.”

“Riiight.” He rolled his eyes at her. “Not thinking is your specialty I see.” How did his older sister survive on her own? He was half tempted to tell his mothers not to let her move out. It was really concerning. “You worry me.” Quite a lot actually. Maybe he should write to Eurig too and let him know how incapable their sibling was. Maybe he should keep an eye on her while she was down there for a visit.

It surprised her a little to hear that he was worried about her. Though it was a welcome feeling. Knowing he wasn’t completely mad at her anymore was nice. “Awe, thanks.” She slung her arm over his shoulder to pull him closer into a hug as they walked. “Maybe I should just let you handle the details of my house.” He’d clearly given the idea more thought than she had.
