Ilsa pulled herself up with a grunt. The Aishan had been deep in training drills since the early morning hours and had yet to be disturbed. That was, of course, thanks to the knowledge given to her by Pruu earlier in the week. She’d instructed the younger warrior on where to get her work done in peace as well as some techniques to strengthen her body.
With another tense exhale Ilsa pulled herself up once more. She’d found the perfect branch to bear her weight while she did upside down pull ups, and with her core burning the Aishan went about her routine.

Ika couldn’t say she loved Zinris or Yael for that matter. It was a darker place, dreary as all get out, but she respected the culture. What rounds of sparring she’d been able to con some of the snottier Elarians into had been satisfying and those that were fine talking to her had been fine. Her earthling features meant that many of the older crew steered clear, but Ika didn’t worry about it. She didn’t have to stick around long for her talents to speak for her.
That being said she did want some time to herself, and imagine her surprise when she went out of the village to find it…only to come across another Aishan. “Well, you’re a brute, aren’t you?” Ika let out a low whistle. She was massive, both in muscle mass and height.

She had no intention of stopping when she heard approaching steps. If anyone was around they would either pass through or make a snarky comment before ultimately getting fed up with her lack of response. Instead, the stranger made their comment and stuck around, much to Ilsa’s displeasure. With a loud huff, the teen loosened her core to free hand and get a look at the other. Of course, everything was upside down, but…was that a Talean? “I was blessed.”

“Yeah, I can see that.” Goddess, how young was she? Now that she wasn’t curling in on herself Ika got a look at the girl’s face and saw little pinches of youth clinging to it. She’d assumed with a body like that that she was at least as old as Ika herself. When she was full grown she’d be a beast on the battle field. “Gonna take a guess here, but you’re Ilsa, aren’t you? Kanai’s daughter?” Reaching for a bag at her side, Ika dug around for a bit before producing a letter. “I got something for her from Chibale but I haven’t been able to find her yet.”

Curious now more than anything else, Ilsa swung her body just enough so she could reach up for the branch above her. In one swift, practiced moved she pulled her legs off the branch and dropped to the ground with a grunt. Her entire body ached, but in a way that told her it was a worthwhile workout.
Ilsa took the letter and turned it. “Did you come all the way here just to deliver a letter? Has something happened?”

“Not that I’m aware of,” Ika shook her head. “Just a letter from her family checking in I think. They knew I was coming to Zinris as an escort and wanted to pass it along.” She hadn’t asked for details of the letter any more than she usually did when she passed things along. “Told me about her daughter, and I figured those kinds of features were hard enough to miss.” After all, compared to the pure blood Elarian and what few hybrids skirted about Ilsa’s coloration stuck out. Pure Aishan, but of mixed blood. While this wasn’t the first of her kind that Ika had seen she was different than the last.
“Is this area open to anyone? It looks like a nice spot to through morning drills.”

“…It’s actually a private spot.” At least, in the way that she didn’t want it advertised. Ilsa knew that it wasn’t owned by anyone, much less her, but for the moment it was the only place she could calm her nerves when the pressure of being her got to be too much. “You can use it today if you want, but I’d…prefer if you didn’t come back.” She didn’t want to be rude, but in this case Ilsa wasn’t given much choice. “I’m sorry, I just can’t be sure that you won’t tell anyone about it.”

Oooo, so she was being run out, huh? It didn’t look like the teenager was entirely comfortable saying it, despite her size, so it brought a soft smile out of Ika. “It’s alright; I understand. Honestly I didn’t mean to come this way, I was just wandering around getting a feel for the area when I stumbled into it.” Thinking on something, Ika cocked one hip to the side and tapped her chin. “How about this? I’ll leave for today, but I want you to meet me by the training area tomorrow. You know how to fight, right? Someone with arms like that has to know how to throw a punch.”

Hearing that the other wasn’t offended was a weight off Ilsa’s chest, but now she wanted to fight? They had just met and her first thought, as casual as grabbing a snack, was to brawl? “You want to spar in front of the village? Not to be rude, but even if you do win against me you won’t be the favorite in their eyes. And that’s saying something compared to me.” As far as ‘bets’ went, even though this other woman was obviously more experienced in combat than Ilsa she would be labeled the underdog for her blood alone. Ilsa was an enigma because of her heritage, but this woman…She was crazy to volunteer for this. “Why would you want that?”

Now Ika’s features were shifting into a grin. “That’s awful cocky of you to assume you’re going to win.” She was just a little under Ilsa’s height, lither where Ilsa was solid, but Ika was fast. She had a tenacity that often meant borderline reckless in a fight. All she had to do was outpace her opponent, especially one who relied on one hit strikes like Ilsa. “Why wouldn’t you want that? I’ve heard just as much encouragement from Aishans as I’ve heard slurs my entire life. Anything they have to say to me is something I’ve already heard and I’m not here to fight for them. I want to fight there because the ground is level and easier to catch a grip when I’m beating you. We can go to the beach if you want, but the outcome is going to stay the same.”

Ilsa couldn't help smiling at Ika's boasting. The hybrid had a way of talking that bordered arrogance, but Ilsa only saw her confidence. She found it admirable even if she was jealous. The other lived for herself, not the way others saw her and Ilsa couldn't shake that. She wanted to prove herself in the eyes of her community and that was secretly why she was trying to talk Ika out of this.
Because if she lost...It would be a huge blow. Still, maybe she could win? Ilsa wasn't the best fighter just yet, but she was strong and able bodied. If she wanted to win then she would!
"You're very weird." For the first time Ilsa let out a little awkward laugh. "Have you always been so..." She struggled for the perfect word, "boisterous?"

Now there was a change. The younger girl was starting to loosen up a bit and didn’t look nearly as tense as before. “Not really. When I was a kid I was really bratty, then I got mean and now I’m just this.” She motioned toward herself. “I struggled a lot with where I fit in as a kid, but it leveled out. When you’re born with this-“ And Ika held up her hand with a little flame bubbling in her palm, “-everyone assumes you’ll go into magical training. Books, spells, robes, beads, healing, summoning rain; all the boring stuff. Then I found out I could use it and fight the way I wanted to so it helped.”

“You have magic?” Now just magical buffs or effects on her blades, but actual magic. Ilsa couldn’t help taking in the flames as they danced along Ika’s tanned fingers. She’d seen mages in her travels, but never this close. When Ika caught the way she was watching them the flame grew a little, even started to change color and Ilsa’s smile grew. “That’s amazing. I’m happy that you found a balance. I don’t think I could imagine a life studying tomes and memorizing spells.” At least, that’s what she assumed most mages did. Some were healers, that much she knew, but all in all it sounded so dull.

“It runs on my mom’s side of the family.” With flick of her wrist the flame went from Ika’s palm to a smaller ember that bounced across her fingertips before disappearing. “My earthling mom. She didn’t inherit it, but two of her sisters have it and so does her father.” As much as she loved them, watching those with magic had just made Ika’s decision not to follow that path of training more apparent. They had a certain amount of restraint she didn’t want nor was she willing to force upon herself.
“Anyway, my name’s Ika. I don’t think I introduced myself and it feels weird that I know your name without you knowing mine.”

“…You didn’t have to give me your name. It would have been easy enough to find you.” Ilsa offered a little smile. “But thank you.” Now that she’d been standing for a minute Ilsa’s body had started adjusting to its new soreness and honestly, it wasn’t comfortable. So, instead of staying upright, she moved toward a fallen log to sit. If she’d been under threat or felt threatened, she never would have done it. Around Ika, though, she felt sort of at ease. Like watching something new and strange bounce around much in the same way a toddler might look at a new animal or a weird cloud.
“Do you normally live in Chibale? I don’t remember seeing you.”
