(1/10) Rawiri was perfectly happy back in Zinris, thanks very much. She was doing well in her training with Rangi... better than she'd been doing before, at least, and was finally getting over the first season of life without her sister. It was... sad, lonely, a lot of the time, and with her familiar far too big to fit into her room by now, that loneliness felt a lot keener.
So, ultimately, she spent more and more time tagging along on trading trips to the Yaeli settlement with her father to visit Vaani; which she'd gotten away with for long enough that she almost thought her mother and grandmother hadn't noticed. ... Until they did. Because of course they did.
What Rawiri hadn't seen coming was her grandmother insisting on chaperoning her across the waters to Kiros, their sister settlement. It made absolutely no sense to her; she was only just progressing through her blade training, was still working on her bond with Rangi, and leaving now felt it would be a set back more than a boon.
Goddess, but it made no sense to her!
She wanted to hate the trip, she really did... but as soon as they left the foggy perimeter of Yaeli, she felt overwhelmed by the sheer, vibrant color of the world around her. The sky... was so blue, even when roiling with storm clouds she couldn't drag her eyes away, and the stars - she could see them so clearly, without the persistent mugginess of the weather. And Pale’iko itself was unlike anything she'd ever seen before! It felt like the trip to Kiros took days longer, because Rawiri had worn her grandmother's nerves raw in all her attempts to wonder off to inspect new things around her.
So, once they'd been escorted into the settlement and brought to their current abode, her grandmother had promptly sagged against her sleeping palette and waved her energetic granddaughter off with a fond chuckle. "Go, explore. Meet new people." She'd said, almost cryptically.
Not that Rawiri gave her much mind as she excitedly spilled out onto the streets.

[ Nayyara 1 ]
She heard rumors and whispers of a hybrid that had come onto their isle. It was a bit of a surprise to the elder Elidae, mostly because of how protective the sisterhood was of their growing tree. Some whispered she had snuck along, but a few correct them quickly. No this one had a patron, a sponsor so to speak from Zinris. And this girl, this hybrid followed the ways.
Nayyara was much too old and well traveled these days to think anything of it, and joined in the scolding of the younglings. Gossip was not a becoming feature, and she made sure they knew it. Plus she threatened to not tell them any more stories of their trip, and that shut them up enough. Or at least led them to focus only on their curiosity and not their judgement.
Letting out a soft sigh at the thought, the woman began to wander toward the beach, curious if she might encounter her aunt or grandmother, or maybe even the new visitors that had come to their shores.

(2/10) People were looking at her, but Rawiri continued along her exploration with a confident gait and bright smile. It wasn't as if Zinris was free of such stares, it was part of the reason her family lived outside the settlement, so that their father could be close without too much interference. Still, living there had given the younglings a certain level of familiarity with her 'deformities', whereas the little ones here were much more... ah. Vocal. In their curiosity.
Not for the first time, Rawiri thanked the goddess she was born a woman, and hadn't inherited the Male curse from her father - that was something that even Zinris sneered at. She'd heard and seen plenty of derision for the shifter boy hybrid who lived back on the island.
Shaking herself, Rawiri redirected her attentions to the beach. There were plenty of them back on Yael, but nothing like this. She didn't think she could ever get used to so much color. Her own homeland was dull by comparison, and she found she no longer had to wonder why the Elidae sisters had left Yael in the first place.
As she got closer to the beach, she realized there was someone else there already, an Elidae judging by the colors. Kura would have hesitated, or turned right around and gone back where she came. Rawiri lifted her chin, put on a smile, and walked closer, beaming when her feet finally sank into soft, plush sand, huffing out a laugh when the cold waters swept up in a soft wave over her ankles.
Even the waters back home veered more towards uncomfortably warm. "It really is beautiful out here." She said, brightly, as if she were congratulating this random Elidae on making it so, personally. She didn't mean to flirt, but the words probably landed that way regardless.

[ Nayyara 2 ]
Turning her head at the comment, Nayyara blinked a moment as she realized the object of her thoughts had all but stumbled upon her. Any other might have gaped, but she simply did a cursory glance before smiling brightly. She had seen enough earthlings and hybrids on her travels that the concept of the one before her was almost boring in comparison. Well, expect she wasn't.
Actually, Nayyara's smile shifted a moment as she pursed her lips and tilted her head. This girl looked nearly identical to a hybrid she encountered seemingly ages ago, when she first made way on her trip to the trees. That one had a fade, and a little more of a sour expression, but they could have been twins if she didn't know better.
Her hand darted down to below her bust, where a prismatic purple gem lay tightly against her clothing. It was a memento of the first friend she had made on the isle, and the memories flooded her when she looked at the girl before her.
Swallowing as she suddenly realized she was silently staring, Nayyara turned her head away to look across the waters, nodding once, "It is...no matter where I went, I always found myself sentimental of home..."

(3/10) That... wasn't how she expected the Elidae to react, but it was a good reaction so Rawiri smiled back as prettily as she could. Which, considering how much she was already smiling, made her cheeks ache a bit. Even when she turned away and saw the girl's expression shift to something more speculative, the hybrid didn't mind or take it too personally. As her father said, first impressions were what was most important, and having earned such a sweet smile hit harder than what came after. Maybe, the girl was trying to puzzle out what Rawiri was. Trying to note how many strange pieces of her there were.
Kura would have shrunk under the inspection, but Rawiri felt herself puff up a bit. Did she find her purple hair interesting? Her smooth crystals? Her eyes?
Instead of asking though, the other girl looked away, and Rawiri had to force herself not to pout. Which was easy, in the end, because now she was interested in the other girl, who apparently had traveled!
"Oh? You've gone to a lot of places then, have you?" She asked, turning to fully face the other girl, hands propping against her hips. "Don't laugh, but I've never left home before. It's so dismal and dreary back there, but here it's..." She looked back towards the sky, the way the sun glittered on the water. The clouds, which were fluffy and looked like candy, instead of heavy and dark. "Like a paradise."

[ Nayyara 3 ]
At the follow up question, Nayyara found herself turning fully to the younger hybrid, her face a gentle smile at the prodding as she had become used to such questions and comments. After all, she was the resident story teller for the younglings, at least for the time being.
"I assume you live on Yael? I stopped by there first on my trip. It reminded me a little bit of the swamps."
Glancing about, she let out a breathy laugh, "Oh yes, but you should visit the mainland, or the coast. You did get a chance to see where the Hapuna live, right? Those reef dwellers not only live in paradise, but act like they are on a perpetual vacation. It's quite fun."

(4/10) Of course she lived on Yael. Was there any other place that could be described as so dull and uninteresting? Rawiri nodded enthusiastically, eyebrows raising curiously. Swamps?
But she continued and Rawiri was even more invested, though disappointed that she couldn't blindly follow the suggestion. "I'm here with family, and I don't think they'd be happy to see me explore away from our Sisters here." She admitted with a roll of her eyes. It was one of her favorite expressions to make, because many Aishans seemed so awed by the simple motion - but if this girl was experienced with earthlings, it likely wasn't very interesting to her, was it?
Of course, as soon as she spoke Rawiri nearly cringed. She sounded like a youngling, saying she wasn't allowed places - not the young blade she was. But that was the truth of it; when it really counted she'd never really disobeyed her mother or grandmother.
"I heard ... travelers back home talk about Matori. About beaches that people actually want to sit on, how people sit under the sun just to feel its warmth. Is that what you mean?"

[ Nayyara 4 ]
Nayyara tilted her head at the comment and eye roll, blinking herself a moment as she processed the words. It was a strange concept, considering she had just explored away from the sisters across all of Tendaji. Sure it was the excuse to see the other trees, but her and her mother got a chance to meet many colorful people along the way. It was something that she would never forget, a thing that shaped her further into the woman she had become.
She pursed her lips at the follow up question, before moving closer and settling into the sandy riverfront.
"I've been to Matori. Similar place, but not quite the same.." She responded gently, "Matori beaches are shallow waters, similar to ponds. They have a lot of brush there too...but people have found places to fish and play."
"Now the Hapuna paradise is something else. Pristine beaches and homes made out of the water stones. I think they call them reef? And they don't really work there, just lounge and relax. It's a hard life to imagine..."
Sighing as she pictured it, she turned back to the hybrid, "I never caught your name..."

When Nayyara sat, Rawiri followed, though with a bet less grace as her shifting leg threw up a flurry of sand that left her chuckling. Then, she fell quiet, captivated by the vivid descriptions that painted images behind her eyes. "That sounds... it sounds--" She nodded along, mouthing the word 'reef' in curious fascination, only to sit up a bit straighter when she was faced once more.
"Oh! Rawiri. I'm Rawiri." She introduced with a bow of her her head. "And who can I thank for telling me such beautiful stories about the world?" Ok... perhaps she was a bit heavy handed in her compliments, but she very much wanted to make a good impression on this lovely older aishan.
