Tilly had walked to the hiking path still arm in arm with Dawn, but of course as they entered the trail, she let go and had her camera at the ready, grinning rather sheepishly at her friend. “I hope that we see something super cute. It’s kind of still baby animal time ish so…maybe we’ll get lucky?”
She twisted to get a shot of a blue jay who was screeching happily on a tree branch and was lucky enough to snap a few pictures of it spreading its wings and taking flight. “Oh hell yeah! That picture was worth the whole trip.”
Nearly tripping she moved to catch up to Dawn and once more linked arms with her, pulling the camera out for them both to see and crowing at how good the image looked. “Oh s**t! That’s like…Nat Geo worthy, don’t you think?”
Even if it wasn’t she was sure that Dawn would agree, even if just to make her feel better, which, honestly? Was so great of her. Tilly had really lucked out with her best friend in the world.

There wasn’t any harm in indulging Tilly, whether the pic could end up in Nat Geo or not. As long as Tilly had fun and enjoyed what she did, Dawn was happy to support her.
“Might do numbers on Insta, too,” she said.
Maybe Dawn was biased, but she really did think it was a good photo. Much better than anything Dawn could do herself. Maybe it was luck, maybe it was skill, maybe it was a little of both, but Tilly happened to catch the perfect shot.
Dawn was content to walk with her, leaving the picture taking to Tilly while she basked in the fresh air and dappled sunlight.
“I saw a few deer come through the other day,” Dawn told her. “Must’ve been displaced from a development nearby. And there’s a woodpecker that likes to hang around my house. It wakes me up every morning.”

Instagram worthy, hm?
“Do you think you could get me set up with an Insta then? Like, I made one but…it’s super dumb, maybe that would be a good place to start…if my photos can go viral maybe I really would have a chance with Nat Geo or something…so, Hell yeah. I think I’d like to do it, if you’re willing to help me out here.
A rustling in the bushes made her pause and grin. “Hold that thought for two seconds. If this is a rabbit I’m going to freak, I need to get a pic.”
With her camera out, Tilly made her way towards the bushes, excited and expecting to see a sweet, brown furry rabbit hop out of them, but instead what she saw was a scale covered monkey looking creature with way too many eyes that went around it’s head.
The camera flash went off as Tilly took the picture she had been ready for, expecting a rabbit, but when everything finally clicked, she stared and screamed, eyes wide as the creature leapt at her, claws extended and looking ready to rend her to pieces.

Dawn tiptoed behind to get a look at the rabbit, too.
It wasn’t a rabbit. Not even close. Dawn didn’t know what it was, but it certainly didn’t look like it belonged in these woods! Had it been deformed somehow? Maybe from toxic waste? She didn’t think Destiny City had a problem with that, but maybe there was a coverup, or it came in from out of town, or—
Reacting fast, Dawn grabbed Tilly to pull her out of reach.
“Run!” she said.
Whatever the creature was, it followed. Dawn’s next thought was monster, but that couldn’t be right, could it? Monsters weren’t real. They couldn’t possibly exist, otherwise they would’ve known about them before now, wouldn’t they? Monsters were little more than fairytales, or nightmares, or myths and legends.
But it was so… so… so horrifying! It didn’t even seem real!
“What is it?!” she asked, wondering if Tilly had ever come across something like this in photographs. “Tilly, what is that thing?!”

“I have no idea what it is!” Tilly tried to move with Dawn, and was thankful that her friend had more sense than she did. Running was a good idea but it was the very last thing that Tilly had thought about.
And of course she managed to mess up running and tripped over an extended tree root, her camera leaving her hands and landing a few feet away and of course that was what TIlly scrambled to grab.
There was something under the camera though, a piece of cloth and as her hands curled around both it and the camera…everything changed.
She was no longer in her sensible clothes but now was in a frilly dress with striped stockings and…
“...What the hell?” If she coudln’t run in sneakers, there was no ******** way she could run in heels. She wasn’t built for heels.
“Dawn what’s happening. Are we being punked?”
She hoped that was the case, for if it was then the creature who now felt awful wasn’t real and couldn’t hurt them…right?

Tilly… changed. Somehow. Something happened to her, and… her clothes were different. Everything about her seemed different, in a way. Like… like magic.
None of this made sense. It was… It was unreal! It wasn’t right! It had to be… had to be… What? Dawn had no clue. All she knew was there was a monster and Tilly became something or someone else, only Tilly didn’t know what was happening either, so it had to be new. But that left them with more questions than answers!
They didn’t have time to figure it out. The detour with the forest floor meant they didn’t get far. The monster was on them in seconds. Dawn barely managed to dodge out of the way, but she backed up into a tree, startling herself. She darted to the side before the monster could corner her, looking for something to hit it with. A rock, or a stick, anything.
It wasn’t a stick she grabbed, but it was made of wood. Slim on one end, sort of bulbous on the other, tapering to a point on each end.
The second she touched it, Dawn felt a rush of something. Warmth, and light. It rose within her, crashing through her like a wave, unlocking parts of her she never knew existed.
Her clothes changed too. Where once she wore leggings and a t-shirt, now she wore some sort of peasant clothing — blue and white, with a pink shawl.
“What the…”

There was suddenly another feeling that popped up, almost but not quite balancing out the overwhelming feeling of the monster though, and when she looked back at Dawn…well.
Something strange had clearly happened to the both of them and that…
Okay. Okay she could roll with this, maybe. “...Um. Well, I…has this ever happened to you before?” Tilly couldn’t help but ask, even though the answer was obviously a hard no.
As the creature leapt at her, Tilly scrambled to her feet and kicked out as hard as she could, pleased that her foot connected with the monster’s face, causing an unearthly sound to come from it and the dozen or so eyes to close as it tried to get back up.
“Dawn, can you like…jump on it? Pretend it’s a cheer routine? Maybe we can just stomp it to death like some kind of mutant bug?”
It was worth a try at least. “We both are wearing heels now so…maybe that will help and you’ve always been more athletic than me!”
But even so, Tilly took a breath and jumped as high as she could, landing right on the creature, and to her utter and complete surprise, it vanished with an awful noise and a pile of dust.
Staring slowly, she swallowed and looked at her friend with wide eyes before grabbing her hand and pulling her away from where they had met the creature. Something had happened and...and now it was over but...holy s**t. They had some things to talk about...
The most important being...just where their clothing had gone to!Sunshine Alouette Did a quick fin for this one <3 We can just handwave whatever else happens no worries <3
