Late in the next morning would find Mal giving Blaise a lazy house tour. (There's ample antiques, as always, but lacking the coherency the Medraut parents professionally aimed for; their son only favoring whatever looked good and felt good as was his wont. There's more oil paintings of Malory in period clothing here than when he'd seen in Europe; most of them featuring the three little black dogs introduced as: Dirk Bladegod the Excellent, Dreary Day Raven Sway, and Darkest Knightsbane. There's a door gestured to as belonging to the dogwalker.) And then they moved to the back yard, sitting comfortably at a table by the natural rock pool, under the shade of a large umbrella. The brunch in front of them was a matter of delivery from an upscale local eatery. The orange juice was fresh squeezed by the dogwalker. Taking a sip, Malory leaned back in his chair. Wearing silky pajama bottoms with a sheer black and and floral dressing gown, he was dressed like a gothic Golden Girl and absolutely ready to gossip like one too. "So tell me more about Grandpa sending you here. Did something happen?"

Dressed in actual clothing, not bed clothing like his friend was wearing, Blaise was seated across from the other with a pair of sunglasses on so that blinding ball of light up in the sky didn't kill his eyes. Si pping his orange juice, the dogwalker did a good job of it, and sighed. "Apparently I need to grow up and prove myself worthy of the family name and money. I've been spending too much according to grandfather. So he decided to send me somewhere outside of Europe." To keep him from his usual haunts, so he'd need to do things without the help he'd get elsewhere.
"If I fail college here I'm apparently in deep." He would pass, he'd make sure of it, but he just didn't see what the problem with his spending habits was. He knew there were people worse than himself, he wasn't that bad really.
"He's bought me a place to live, so I needn't worry about that, but everything else is on me." The bills, for now, weren't on him but they would be in time and he knew it. He was supposed to learn to be an adult after all.

"Oh my god," Mal gasped with extra drama, " are you being taught an important life lesson?" The scandalized tone was only half joking. Important life lessons were the worst. Which was why he tried to never learn one. Picking up a grape, thoughtfully peeled by his dog walker, Mal looked at it for a long moment before popping it in his mouth and chewing it thoughtfully. "DCU has been fun so far, and it won't be hard for you," he added, because of course Blaise would be fine. The older boy had been the pinnacle of smart and capable to a ten year old Malory, and those rose colored glasses hadn't dimmed with time at all. "Does that mean a job?" His eyebrows scrunched up in confusion, the concept of needing a job was utterly strange, especially when applied to Blaise, dignified and full of pride. Jobs for people like them were only meant to be for fun, like a hobby. Needing one, though... Mal gave a small shudder and took a drink. What an awful thought.

Sighing he leaned back in his seat, a peeled grape plucked up before hand, he tilted his head a bit. "Mmm, yes a horrid thing really. I'll manage however, as y ou said it shouldn't be hard." The classes might not be hard but it was more the managing of things and actually not giving up, or just forgetting to attend classes and being kicked out, that was the real issue he faced. he sort of knew it even.
"Yeah, it does. I don't even know what I'll do." He'd need to figure out what to do for a job, he'd need to find something he could get into and not forget or flake on. That was what he'd been told by his grandfather.
Popping the grape in his mouth he smiled at the other. "I need it only to appease my grandfather. He didn't say what sort of job...just that I need one so I can prove some growth and that I'm mature." So he could earn the family money and even, one day, help work wit hand for the family. "I just need to find something I'd be interested in...in this city." Rolling his eyes at the other.
"That is the issue. Finding something of intrest in this place. Any ideas Mal?"

Going quiet, Mal considered the question, tilting his head one way and then the other in thought. The three dogs patiently waiting next to the table mimicked the motion in time with their owner. It really was a tough question. For one, he was completely unfamiliar with the process of getting a job, and he'd only ever hired a person once: to be his dog walker and all the many, many additional tasks that entailed. Completely unsuitable for Blaise. Imagining the older boy in any number of visible job positions summoned up a feeling of both both dread and morbid excitement. Blaise in a McDonald's uniform, telling people they were eating slop. Blaise working at the Gap, telling people to try dressing like they have some modicum of personal style while glaring at an ugly mannequin. Blaise, working at a bank...oh wait no, those were exploding recently. "MMmmmm....maybe you could be a critic?" He didn't bother specifying what sort. There were way too many options, really. This older brother figure of his always had a lot of knowledge and opinions when it came to culture. "I've started doing, well, not a job really." He did kind of treat the Dark Mirror as an employer, though. "A sort of extra-curricular thing that would be work? But I found a way to just, do it along with the sorts of things I do anyway. Which makes it not work."

"A critic? Like the ones who get published in papers or the ones online? The social media people." Those were two very different things, as Mal would very well know. Their parents, and such, would listen to those who were published in papers while young people listened to the ones you social media.
"I mean I can easily spend the money to purchase things to try and critic and give reviews on." But would his grandfather even consider that a job? Maybe if he were published his grandfather would consider it a job but social media...he doubted his grandfather would look well on that.
"So, did your dog walker know before you hired them that they'd be peeling grapes for you?" And making orange juice and other things. He couldn't help but ask as he leaned forward and grabbed another grape and chased it with a gulp of orange juice. "I do hope they are being paid well....provided their help is good." If it wasn't good he knew they wouldn't even be here though.

"Maybe both? I think a lot of them do both these days." Traditional publishing for cred, online publishing for actual relevancy. But maybe that would be a lot of actual work-work. Mal's eyebrows rose at the idea of paying someone to peel his grapes for him. "Oh...oh no. This isn't his job, he just likes doing little things like this for fun." That reminded him though... He picked up another grape, placed it in his lips, just barely biting into it and snapped a quick selfie. As he set it with a little text of praise, he continued, "I pay him well, but for all the extra little things, he prefers gestures other than money. It's very cute, really." Text sent, Mal fixed his attention on his big brother once more, "What classes are you going to take? Performing arts has been extremely fun." Required core classes didn't matter very much to him, they were things to deal with exactly as much as needed to pass and no further.

"Gestures? Care to explain what sort of gestures?" He questioned, curious now, as he helped himself to another grape while tilting his head back, looking towards the doors which led back into the house.
"Both might work...but it'll take build up and I don't think I could get into the traditional method without the college degree for it." Journalism, likely, and that really wasn't his thing. "I'll see what I can do. I'm not pleased with any of this but I've really no choice." He couldn't allow himself to bve cut off after all. He needed that money to live, it was how he survived and he couldn't picture himself working some menial jobs for the rest of his life. He'd get a good job, when he needed to, but it seemed that until then he'd need something.
"I suppose it depends on what I'm going to go for. I could go for business, that would look good for my grandfather and be useful for the future, it would help me grow the family money once I take over." So it might be a very good thing for himself in the long run. But did he really want to? Not really...but it would be useful so that sort of won out really. "I'll go for a buisness major I think...for a language I'll just take French." Which was cheating but what did it matter to him? He spoke French and had since he was an infant, it was his first language, the school didn't need to know that though.

"Oh I send him pictures sometimes, and let him brush my hair. If he's doing some kind of arts and crafts, I'll let him keep the hair in the brush..." he trailed off, before assuring Blaise, "Not that there's much. My hair is still very healthy." Malory is a person of priorities. He gave a little pout at the idea of going to school for business. The only thing fun about business school was that business students threw what might be the wildest, most ridiculous frat parties in the city. In Mal's minds eye, he pictured Blaise wasting away in the boredom of some accounting class, turning to salt, turning to angry salt, telling off the professor...taking over the class. Well, he'd be fine. At the very least, French would be nice! He'd be able to correct people's accents. "Maybe if you do something business-y over the summer, your grandpa will send you some extra money. Or just wear a business suit and I'll take pictures of you in an office to send to him?" Grandpa surely wouldn't be able to tell the difference, right?

"You send him pictures...I do hope those pictures are very revealing. If you are having him peel grapes, and juice oranges. They'd have to be if it were me." Laughing at the other he shook his head. "You should hope he doesn't get a crush on you and make some sort of voodoo doll in the hopes of getting you to fall for him." Joking, he really was, but it was something to say to his friend either way. He loved how Malory was saying he allowed the dog walker to brush his hair, as if it were some gift or something, it was amusing to hear the other speak in such a way. Blaise would have said similar though, and he knew it, Malory was too damn adorable really.
"Perhaps I'll get an office job if I can while doing buisness school. Grandfather would approve and perhaps allow me more money, it would be nice, he m ight even turn a blind eye to some things as well." French class would be good though, an easy grade for him, but he did worry about how many people he might have to correct. Would the professor need correcting as well?
"Have you found a place with good French food or pastaries?" Knowing the other had authentic French food inthe past and could find a good place, with authentic food, he hoped the other knew some good places. "I'm going to need a list of good places to eat if I'm staying in this city."

Laughing at the thought of sending Thackery a dickpic and all the horrible but fun reactions that might garner, Malory shook his head at the concern. "He would never be so disrespectful." Mal gave Blaise a look of profound pity at the phrase office job. He should really give his parents a call tonight and thank them for letting him be happy and have fun without having to deal with the more tedious parts of so-called adult life. (In the end, he just posted a selfie of himself on facebook, captioned it with "blessed", and tagged them in it.) "Quite a few," Mal assured him, chin on hand. "It's not New York or LA, but Destiny City does have a fairly respectable restaurant scene." He idly swiped a finger across the phone on the table, bringing up his preferred reservation app. "How about we visit one tonight? My treat." After all these years of being spoiled him, it was probably about time Mal treated other boy back.

"Your pooy dog walker...not even getting good pictures of you." Flicking his eyes over his friends figure. "Though I wouldn't know abotu that either." Rolling his eyes and finishing his orange juice.
"Trust me, I know it's not New York. They have a very good resteraunt scene." So did LA but he didn't like LA as much as New York. The place never slept, there was always somewhere he could be and something, or someone, he could be doing at any given time of night. The sheer amount of little hole in the wall places that somewhere were still high end, and had high end food and drink, was surprising but good. He just prefered it over all really.
"Mmm, so good French places..." Nodding his head he felt a smile crossing his features. "Dinner sounds good, pick a good French place and than send me a list of places as well as French bakeries...I'll need some good macrons." Since he was not baking them himself, even if he did know how to. He'd watched a family cook make tham more than a few times, he knew how to do it but he wasn't about to, he had enjoyed watching her make them and suggesting which flavors he wanted.
"If we're going out for dinner tonight, and I'm already here, how about you keep me occupied somehow till then?" Raising a brow in challenge to his friend. Some shopping, some sight seeing, Mal would need to entertain him somehow....because this city was new to him and seemed so utterly boring.

Sitting up, Malory seemed to preen a little bit, smug and proud to be the one showing Blaise around now. "Let's go to the Good Mall™, then. It's got several boutiques along with the better brand stores, and it even has an aquarium." The latter was clearly the main draw for Malory. "There's a local art museum not far from it if you want culture to go with your Orange Julius." Well, at the very least, Malory liked a smoothie of some kind to accompany him when approaching culture.

"Alright, lead the way Mal, I'll let you lead the way today and dictate things." Waving his hand about as he stood and stretched. He really didn't mind letting his younger friend take the lead on things today, he seemed so eager to do so anyway. It was really sort of cute to see how eager the other was...like a puppy with it's tail wagging.
"I'd rather a mimosa with the art museum but I dare say the security wouldn't allow me to drink while in there amongst all the art." As if that was somehow offensive, to not be allowed to drink while at a museume looking at art. "But I suppose I can settle for what you mentioned. Come, finish your meal and lets go, you can show me this boring city and show me what I'd otherwise be missing." Because if Mal wasn't here than Blaise would likely remain at home unless he had to work or attend classes, and he'd miss whatever this city had to offer. He'd wind up ordering everything else online for delivery, even meals and groceries.

"We can get drinks after, the drag bars should be open by then and the locals go all out for Pride after all. Drinks, and a show, and then a nice dinner?" He still didn't feel up to becoming Hybris and making out with/draining the energy of the clubbing populace of DC anyway. At least not tonight. Instead he could be a different kind of energy vampire and try to exhaust Blaise instead. Physically or just his patience, either or both would undoubtedly be fun.
