Zac had finally talked Todd into not allowing himself to suffer any longer. Which meant asking Soleiyu if the Mauvian could fix his Senshi phone, at least, into one he could use. One with buttons so he could push things. He hoped that his civilian phone could be changed, too, because he... just really struggled to use touch screens. He liked the clacky keyboards of a computer, with the mouse separate so he could see precisely where he meant to click instead of just guessing with his big fingers and big nails. So he came to Soleiyu, phone pulled out of subspace, and swallowed whatever protests his brain tried to dredge up. "Can Soleiyu help me?" he asked, putting on his best pleading face.

Truth be told, Zac had nagged Soleiyu for a while now about fixing up a phone for Todd. Soleiyu was always eager to help. The request had been for a Senshi phone at the time, and while Soleiyu was an expert with them, it was significantly more difficult to make constant changes and tweaks to a Senshi phone than it was to build a prototype and get approval.
Which was why, when Todd asked for help, Soleiyu was secretly very smug that he already had a mostly finished product just waiting to be tested.
Zac wasn’t the best at articulating when he wanted to help someone, nor was Todd the best at articulating what he wanted due to the communication barrier they shared, but between the both of them Soleiyu thought he might have an idea.
His tail immediately started to twitch with enthusiasm when Todd approached, when he asked for help.
He had a table full of projects and gizmos in various stages of construction, but when Todd presented his phone it was suddenly the only thing that mattered.
“Of course I can,” he said confidently. It wasn’t a question of if he could help, it was a certainty that he could.
“Actually, I’m glad you’re here. I was going to ask for your opinion on something I was working on.”
Todd had withdrawn his phone from subspace, so Soleiyu did the same for his–or, at least, the one he’d been working on.
It was a little bigger than Todd’s current cell phone, and it was a bit bulkier, too. Soleiyu set it on the table and it was clear that it had a very hard shell to protect it–but, more than that, there was no visible screen.
Because Soleiyu needed to flip it open, which he did to reveal a screen on one half of the phone; it lit up with a background image–of his face–and a few generic apps in place. A pen was attached to the side of the phone, with a soft, rubber tip.
The more impressive part of the phone was probably the individual keys. He could have made soft rubber, but he’d seen how Todd seemed to thrive with the little click-clack noises of larger keys. He couldn’t just plug in a whole computer keyboard but he’d done his best to mimic that with the smaller phone surface.
“I’ve had this project for a while. I was wondering if you could give me some feedback? It’s like a normal phone, mostly. But it’s a flip phone. So it’s got a bigger screen, and a bigger keyboard. It’s still a touch screen, you know. But I made a custom pen for it so it’s easier to maneuver. Go ahead and set your phone down, let me look at it. I’ve got all my tools here. Tell me how you like the one I’ve made, I can fix your phone up like this some, if you like.”

Todd relaxed some, only then realizing just how nervous he'd been. He mentally slapped himself a little—Zac had said he wasn't a burden numerous times. The people here, that he loved, loved him, too. Asking for help wasn't bad, no matter how many times he had to ask for it. No matter how much of it was him asking for help for the same things over and over because they just would not click. He knelt down and picked up the phone Soleiyu had pointed out, rotating it in his hands and flipping it open and closed a few times, making a pleased sound at the clicky noises. Then he picked up the pen and jabbed at the screen a few times, lips twitching downwards. So. He still needed to work on controlling his tiny movements. At least the pen was somewhat easier than his fingers by themselves. He needed to get back into writing practice with those sheets. Then, he used the keyboard to navigate instead, going to the notes app and typing This is Todd. Clik click. Keyboard nice smile He made some growling sounds that would be horrific to hear from anyone else, but from him, they were happy growls, indicators (beyond his wagging tail and perked ears) that he could not have been more pleased with it. "Todd think it's perfect," he said as his tail beat out a happy rhythym on the floor. "Thank you." Finally, he slid his phone over to Solieyu, blushing as he realized Soleiyu had asked for it earlier.

Soleiyu adjusted his weight from one paw to the other. It wasn’t very noticeable unless you were paying attention but he was clearly pleased with himself. He wasn’t unused to Todd’s noises, strange as they might have been for people unfamiliar with him, but he took it as the upmost praise available.
Not that Todd’s appendages weren’t already a dead giveaway, but Soleiyu was a glutton for praise and was soaking up all of this.
“Good. I’m glad to hear that. Of course, if you can think of anything else you’d like for it, you should tell me.” It was a gentle encouraging, but he knew Todd well enough–and had listened to Zac often enough–to know that it was just difficult for him to come forward and ask for anything.
“I like working on things. I like to see what I can make. This is fun for me.” He accepted the other phone and almost immediately got to work on this–and it was clear from his concise, well-coordinated movements that he had done this before. He did enjoy it. All his tools were right next to him and his tail danced behind him enthusiastically while he worked.
“I like to solve problems. And I like to help my friends. I bet there are so many things I could make you,” he hummed. He hadn’t taken his eyes off of his project, but he seemed like he’d been well and prepared for this so it was less about making the customizations and more about installing them.

Todd smiled. "Todd promise to let Soleiyu know," he said seriously as he put the test phone to the side. He didn't want to take it, not when he'd already pretty personalized the other phone—the one he didn't like very much right now, sure, but he'd gotten some pictures on it and stuff. "Soleiyu good friend. Glad he think it's fun. Todd..." He shrugged, making a face. "Not very good. Big hands. Small movements, ew."

Soleiyu had long ago gotten used to Todd’s manner of speaking, and he didn’t see any reason to try and correct him or change what he was comfortable with. He understood well enough, so he smiled at Todd, though he couldn’t help but give him a look.
“Well, if you ever have anything that’s giving you a hard time, don’t ever hesitate to come to me. I’m very good at making modifications. I can make things for big hands, you won’t have to make small movements. I have small hands,” he said, and though his paws weren’t hands, he saw no reason to complicate this conversation. “So I know what it’s like to have to deal with devices made for other people with fingers. I’m just lucky I know how to work around that. But you stick with me, and I’ll make sure you get everything you need.”
His tail twitched so that he could curl it around Todd’s wrist briefly. “Friends look out for each other, right? So it means you can’t trick yourself into thinking I won’t want to help you.”

Todd smiled. "Yes," he confirmed, petting Soleiyu's tail with his free hand. "Friends... Pack... care for each other." There was no need to consider himself an undue burden. Not here. "Will... talk to Soleiyu later? About... stuff for big hands. Todd tired, too many words."

Soleiyu tilted his head just slightly and seemed a bit amused by Todd, but he nodded. He raised his tail up a bit, like he wanted a few last pets before Todd left .
"Yes, I know. I talk a lot. You go rest up. Take your time with that, play with it and tell me if you want to try it with any other changes. I'm not going anywhere any time soon, so that offer is open permanently."
He might have said more, but Todd had already had too many words, so instead he just butted his head against Todd's palm and seemed content to leave it at that.
