Work was slow, at least for himself, as he’d not had any appointments that day so he’d been doing walk in’s, most who wanted just small s**t done. What Kioshi wouldn’t give to have someone walk in that wanted a big piece of work done, something that too more than an hour. It would help the time go quicker because he was becoming bored. All he’d been doing, between little work, was sketching and drawing in a sketchbook.
Seated behind the counter in the front of the store, though not working the counter, he ignored most of the people coming in unless they mentioned ‘walk in’ and ‘tattoo’ because the others walking in were for appointments or for piercings which he didn’t do.
A few times he’d looked up and once or twice he’d caught some twittering girls pointing out his ears and giggling like idiots. It was all annoying and more than he wanted to deal with but he also didn’t much feel like working in the backroom, he might miss a walk in that he could take on.
With his head ducked down, only part of his head visible, he was working on another sketch to add to his portfolio of work.

Morgan had been feeling the itch to get another piercing for a while. One day she might steal enough money to get a tattoo but this week hadn’t been a good one for her when pickpocketing. If she really wanted to put in the effort, OF was looking really good for making money. That would be a trial for another week though.
As she walked in she saw the usual person at the desk, this was her standard place to go for piercings. This time there was someone else sitting up there too, they had pointed ears which was a really cool mod she had seen before on insta but not here in the city yet. “Ohhh whatcha drawing? Also, love your ear mods~” Leaning over the counter left little to be imagined with her tattered top. It wasn’t exactly on purpose but just kind of a thing she had to deal with.

He’d heard the bell over the door sound, someone had come into the shop, but he hadn’t looked up because if he was needed he’d know. When he heard someone speaking to him he lifted his head, slowly, this person at least wasn’t some giggly girl pointing and asking about his ears as if they cared. Asking the usual ‘did it hurt?’ question and trying to sound like they were worth talking to.
This person however at least looked part of the community, he did think there were two distinct groups when it came to piercings and tattoos…those were part of the community and those who were not. Those who weren’t simply did things because it was a trend and cool and they wanted to show off. Those who were part of the community were different and those were the ones he liked.
“Working on my portfolio further. I like to have more offerings for customers.” Glasses glinted in the light as he sat himself up fully, taking a moment to look the female over. When it came to drawing, reading, and things like that he needed his glasses to see just what he was doing. He kept an extra set here, incase his broke or anything else happened to them. “Thank you, about the ears.” He wasn’t trying to be some sort of elf, or anything else, like some people might think but he did like his ears like this.

“Oh can I see? I’ve been wanting a tattoo for a long time but the cost has always been a thing I’ve struggled with. Like I know and understand that art costs money, I’m just a broke ho. Piercings are more my price range but with how many I have…. I probably coulda gotten a tat.” It was one of those things that a small amount was more appetizing than a lump sum upfront for something like a tattoo.
“How long have you been here, I don’t think I’ve seen ya before? But then again I kinda just show up whenever and crack a** hours too.” There had been many a time when she had showed up either right before closing or right as they opened, in the time where there were very few souls in the shop. It was better that way, fewer people to bug her and ask her questions about her increasing number of piercings.

“Could have likely, though maybe not a back piece.” Since those, and sleeves, were not cheap. It was enough to at least start the art and pay for a session. It wasn’t like they charged for all the work before it was done, they charged by each session. Reaching for his notebook, left open on the counter, he pulled it up to show what he’d been working on. He was working on various, detailed, pictures of beta fish. Different tail styles and various positions. He was working on them because the tails were detailed plus scales, they were not as easy as they seemed.
“A few months, I’m still working as an apprentice.” Which he knew, from what he’d left with Wolframite for himself, he’d done before in his previous life. He didn’t remember it though, which may or may not be good, but it meant he was cleaning floors and setting things up for others. He got his own work as well, since he was talented and capable, but it meant he had people over his shoulder watching and telling him what to do and how to do things.

Morgan looked over the sketches for a bit, they were all really pretty. She wasn’t one for fish but she could see the hard work that would go into tattooing these. “Ah those are probably really expensive since they take a lot of time. I’ve seen a few people going through the process during my own appointments here. I think I would probably just get a few single bits here and there, not sure if I could commit to a full idea for a sleeve or something like that yet.”
She clicked her tongue as she thought, she could get the tongue piercing she came in for today or see what the cost for a small tattoo would be. It was supposed to be like 120 or so for the piercing. Part of her felt like being a bit impulsive, she did have her full rend money with her too. “Have you done any like skeleton themed stuff? I don’t mind if you’re an apprentice but if you think it would help practice? Of course, I really don’t know how much something like that would cost. It might be better than what I was gonna get done today, at least I wouldn’t talk weird for a few weeks with a tattoo.”

“I do asian pieces and beta fish are something I’ve not worked on yet.” So he was practicing it. It was something he’d not found in his whole body of work, from before he’d changed sides, so he’d decided he needed to work on it. This was, thus far, the result of working on beta fish designs. He was sure at some point he’d get people wanting a beta fish inked onto them somewhere. He was just preparing for what he felt was inevitable.
“I don’t do skeletons and such. I do mostly Asian pieces.” And kanji, katakana and hiragana, of course, but he didn’t do much outside of that range unless he absolutely needed to and even then he wasn’t that good with other styles. He’d stuck with what he was good at and knew he could do well, it was what made him money. He swore most people in this city who did asian tattoos were not asian, which was fine, but then they did Japanese language tattoos and always got it wrong.
And he knew, and wasn’t surprised, when the female who worked the front desk mentioned two others who worked there who could do skeletons and the like, since it wasn’t his style. This was a walk in, and he could take it on, but he also didn’t want to ruin someone with a tattoo that wouldn’t be as good as others could do. This was something which lasted for life, as he well knew.

“Ah ok, I feel that. No problem, maybe I’ll think of somethin up your alley in the future yanno. I don’t know enough about Asian language stuff to get something like that. I’ve seen how those drunk college students get stuff that doesn’t mean anything they thought it did when they finally sobered up.” It was kinda sad in a way that people did that but then again some people just got tattoos for the fad or because of some sort of influencer dude bro. “Or like if you feel like adventuring into mythological stuff at some point I could vibe with that too~”
Turning back to the other person on the desk she decided on going for a different type of piercing than the tongue variety. Letting them know she wanted one on her eye brow and checking that it would be ok within her price range. It took a bit to get the appointment adjusted since it would require a different set up than her main appointment. After it was all said and good, she turned back over to the guy drawing. “What’s your name by the way, mine’s Morgan. And uh do you like music?” She really did maybe wanna vibe with this guy at some point, they had a really cool style going on and she could kick it with him probably. Maybe not at one of her concerts but at least something casual.

“I’ve seen a few of those walk in here.” And he’d seen a few walking around the city - bad Japanese tattoos. Some of them were just nonsense while others were words, correct ones, but who wanted chicken soup tattooed on themselves? He doubted they meant to have that inked onto their body forever, he hadn’t cared enough to ask them or tell them. “Depends on what sort of mythology you’d want. I could brush up on it if it was a piece you really wanted.” He could put in the time, and effort, to work on such a piece if she wanted it. It was out of his comfort zone but he’d stepped out of his comfort zone a few times before.
“Kioshi, and it depends on the type of music.” Already seated again, and drawing, he took the time to look up at her and nodded when she’d given her name. She was certainly interesting, and going for an eyebrow instead of a tongue, not a bad choice in his opinion. He didn’t much care for tongue piercings, but perhaps that was because far too many people played with them. It was like some people just needed to show them off and run them over their teeth, and in some cases ruin their teeth, it really wasn’t his favorite piercing and he did have a few of his own.
“Give me an idea for a piece, I’ll get a size idea, and I’ll see if I can’t work on something., It might take awhile to get the style right, I won’t put bad art on someone, but if you have the time I can give it a try.” So long as it really wasn’t something too terrible, there were some things he wouldn’t do even for the money.

“I bet yea, I’ve seen a few out at my store late at night when they come for the munchies and stuff.” It wasn’t something that she wanted to deal with but eh something to talk about and laugh at. It was nice that he at least acknowledged her request too, as she was certain they dealt with a lot of dumb people coming in and being rude. It was it’s own crappy side of customer service and everyone seemed to deal with it.
“Ah oki well I’ll keep that in mind Kioshi, thinking something spooky is all maybe a dullahan. I think it would be a cool thing to do if you’re up for it.” She was being a little pushy but that’s because she could probably get a cheaper price from an apprentice than a regular artist as well. It would also help them get more practice in a wider range too, something that was good for artists in general. “I have a lot of time for stuff, I work overnights at a dead end kinda job but it is what it is yanno? Spend a lot of time on insta and listening to music or watching whatevers on the ancient TV we have there.”
She could go on an on about all the random stuff that happened at the convenience store she worked at but maybe another time when there wasn’t a line of people waiting for walk-ins or appointments. “”Yea we can chat after my thingy~” With that she followed the other person’s directions to the back area where piercings were done.

Listening to what she wanted, and never having heard of it before, he couldn’t help but wonder what in the hell that was. Deciding to answer it for himself, rather than ask someone else, he waited until she was off to get her eyebrow piercing to look it up. Guessing at the spelling he found what he thought was the correct spelling. Google had decided to correct him, since he was apparently wrong in the spelling, and offered him up the headless horseman.
“That’s what she means…” Clicking on a link ,to read up quickly on it, he nodded slowly after some time. He was certain he could at least try it…but how well could he manage a horse. The clothing would take some work as well, folds and layers and such. He’d need time, a good amount of it, because it dealt with things he didn’t often deal with. Going back to his work he locked his phone with the search up, so he could see it later.
He’d give it a try.
