Romanite sighed as he stared down Siegenite. The other had somehow convinced him out of the shop only to spring on him that it was for training. Which, fine. Romanite understood but... "Honestly, you thought it was a good idea to leave Jean in charge?" And unsupervised at that. If his shop burned down, he wasn't sure who was going to get skinned first. One of them, or himself. "Okay... What did you want to do exactly." There was a fair bit that they could do sure, but Romanite had his doubts how much he could get done himself. The Lieutenant rubbed his arm. At least it was starting to warm up, finally. Noir Songbird dont mind me just finally remeembered the quote all this time later

Honestly, Siegenite didn't like doing things this way--practically bribing Romanite out of the shop and to power up. But whatever worked, really.
"Jean is a grown adult. I'm sure he'll manage," he said, deadpan. "And in any case, I'll be doing this with him soon enough." It rankled, to simply leave them to rot and not work on themselves as Negaverse officers. And Siegenite's own ambition made him itch to get stronger, and quickly.
He leaned on his staff.
"I want you to come at me. You're an officer of the Negaverse. You have quotas. And eventually, someone on the other side is going to take issue with you doing your job." For silly, stupid, moralizing nonsense reasons. Ugh. "So I want to see what you can already do, and we can figure out how to improve from there."

"If I end up saying I told you so, you're sleeping on whatever remains of the couch." An empty threat, Harker would end up curling up with him regardless. "Please do." Romanite sighed. "He can talk the talk but he's always been... awkward about the rest." Himself on the other hand... was awkward about it all. Still...He'd sat for far to long. Romanite had dragged Siege into things and then proceeded to do nothing as Siege put in the time and effort to climb ranks. .... Romanite had to admit, it looked good on him. The Lieutenant snorted, giving his boyfriend a flat look. "Honey. I may be Negaverse but I'm still a ******** twig. I'm not going to win this fight." He'd be lucky if he didn't fall over with gust of wind. As for quota's... well, energy gathering was simple enough. The store saw to that... Starseeds... Starseeds he still had to work on. Romanite sighed, summoning his weapon. "Weapons... no weapons?" He asked, crossing the distance between them. "I think you got the better weapon. Even when you were a Page." He said flatly, glancing at the staff for a moment. "I'm screwed if and when these ever break. Pretty though... Maybe we should put something like this in the windows for the shop?" He offered one to Siegenite before sweeping his foot out and trying to kick the staff out from underneath him.

Siegenite shrugged. "Fair," he said. Not that he fit particularly well on a couch, and he suspected Harker would miss his warmth before long, but it was a reasonable threat, no matter how blatantly empty they both knew it to be.
"Since I outrank you both, it sort of makes it my responsibility to look after you," he said, "and that includes making sure you can fight. Besides, I know how his weapon works. It's not all that different form mine." Cane, shillelagh--the principle was similar, really.
A wry smile flashed across the Captain's face. "Not about winning, cariad. About showing up to the fight. Weapons, please. Important to know if you can make use of them."
He was almost distracted by the idle chatter. Almost had his attention diverted enough to miss Romainte moving for his staff. Unfortunately, almost didn't quite cut it, and he shifted his weight to pull the staff out of the way, then linked it behind Romanite's other foot and yanked, in an effort to unbalance him.
Two could, of course, play at that game.

Romanite snorted. "I've always been your responsibility to look after..." Though that had mostly been at the pressuring of elders and years gone by. "It is a bone, Pet. I would think that differs from yours quite a bit since you don't need to be as close as he would." Though, Romanite supposed there were some similarities. "I hope I get something better, when I grow in power. Glass can be damaging, but only so." The Lieutenant pouted slightly. "I would rather fight with my words, but I suppose if I-" Romanite squawked as he was shifted off balance and went crashing to the ground. "Damn it.." He hissed, more so at himself then his failed attempt. "I'm sleeping on the couch, and you're not welcome." He groaned, sitting up. "Don't you dare tell him I tried that."

Siegenite smiled, in a fond sort of way. It was true; Harker had been his responsibility for a long time. But that just made this all the more important, didn't it? Harker wasn't just some anonymous subordinate--Harker was Harker, and deeply important to him.
"Mm, but remember, I've got practice with a a shillelagh, and that's got about the same reach as Orthoclase's bone," he said. Relatively speaking, at least. "And I'm sure you'll get something better. But we've got to get you there first."
Did he feel a little smug, when Romanite hit the ground? Yes, yes he did.
"So, how is fighting with your words going, cariad?" Amusement wrote itself across his face, as he extended a hand to help Romanite back to his feet. "Your failures are safe with me. I would never want you to be embarrassed in front of someone else." Jean would probably enjoy the story, but he'd have to pry it out of Harker. "Anyway, you'll come to me for cuddles eventually."
This felt...good. Sparring and bantering with the man he loved. "Any other clever tricks you'd like to try?"

"I suppose, I can at least shatter an end and then stab someone with it..." Worst case scenario. Though, did he really want to get his hands that dirty? No. Not really, but if the situation called for it...
Romanite shot his boyfriend a look. "Keep running your mouth and find out, anwyl." He grumbled as he took the offered hand. "Ugh, I'm sleeping with Ortho tonight, forget you." The Lieutenant pouted. A lie, probably, but Romanite would hold out on the threat as long as he could. "Yes. But you'll have to wait till we get home for that one. So let us be off."
