Calixa 1
She’d convinced her mother to travel to Yael so that she could meet the Elaria. Once she’d learned about them she had been so curious. She wanted to learn all about the other Aishan races. Not to mention she was curious to see the other trees. It was such an honor to be able to even catch a glimpse of them. So she was hoping she’d be allowed close enough that she could sketch a picture or two. And she could show her sister how good she’d gotten with her drawings.

Akel 1
While she didn’t have an issue with Alks she wasn’t so sure she liked the hybrids. Even less when they came around looking like they were sight seeing. Even less when they brought their spawn with them. So when she’d caught sight of the random Vandrea she was struck with the need to curl her lip up in a silent snarl. Why had they come here? There was no way they were moving in. Though she did try to keep an open mind, after all her Niece was Elidae. It would make little sense for her to shun one and welcome the other. Though that was what she initially wanted to do.
She sighed as she got closer to the young Vandrea. With her left hand she reached up to pinch the bridge of her nose. “What are you doing?”

Her attention was caught up in watching everyone else that when someone spoke to her she had to blink a few times to figure out they were talking to her. Calixa turned her head to look at the woman and smiled brightly. “Hi. I was hoping to find someone that would go with me to the Mother Tree.” She spoke enthusiastically. She knew her own mother wouldn’t be able to get her any closer so she was hoping one of the locals would be nice enough. “I just wanted to get close enough to make a sketch.” Calixa hoped that was enough to convince this sister that she was no threat.

So the weird girl wanted to visit the Mother. Her first reaction was to deny her. However when she said she just wanted to get close enough to make a sketch she thought about it. The girl didn’t need to be that close to do that. She just needed to see her. And if Akel made sure that there were warriors nearby there would be little chance that the girl could do anything bad. And it wasn’t like this girl had a weapon on her. Stupid on her and her mother’s part but good for her and her sisters.
“Yeah. Come on. I’ll get you closer.” She motioned for the girl to follow her. She didn’t trust one of the other Elaria around to lead the girl to a far enough away spot so she’d do it herself.

When the woman said she’d get her closer she practically jumped up and down on her feet. She might have even squealed if she didn’t think it would bother the woman. Instead she settled for a breathy ‘Yes!’ Quickly she dug into her bag so she could pull out her sketch book and charcoals. Once she had them in hand she moved to follow after the woman. “Thank you so much! I heard that your Mother Tree is beautiful.” Calixa had also head the name in passing but she didn’t want to say it and butcher it. So she respectfully kept quiet.

She rolled her eyes, though it wasn’t visible, and shook her head slightly. What was it with the younger generation being so energetic? Akel couldn’t remember herself being like that. “Yes, Elzira is very beautiful.” She spoke her agreement to the statement. Looking over her shoulder she caught sight of the sketchbook and drawing utensils. At least the girl hadn’t been lying. “You won’t be able to get too close so you may not be able to get too many details.” While she didn’t draw she knew a sister or two that did and knew that they liked details.

“Oh, that’s alright. The general beauty can still be caught.” She held up her book with a large grin. While she did like to draw fine details she wasn’t going to press her luck. A general image was better than nothing. And she could show her mother and sister afterward. “I’ll have to really look into colors at some point.” For now she’d have to settle for black and grey. Maybe when she went to town she could pick up some paints or something and redraw her picture to make it really come to life.

Well she had to hand it to this young one, she didn’t complain about not getting something. That at least made her bearable. Though she was still on the fence about the Vandrea. Much as she had been about the Elidae at first. She knew that the other resulted from a seed of Aisha planted by the Alk cousins much like the Elaira planted a seed of Elzira. Didn’t mean she felt a kinship with them though.
“Right. Just don’t try to get any closer. We won’t tolerate a threat.” She wanted to make that clear right from the start.

“Of course.” She nodded her head in a serious manner. She didn’t want this woman to get upset with her. Calixa looked around as they walked. Not so much caring about the trail as trying to see if their way of life was different from where she was from. From the looks of it things looked very similar. The set up was different but everything else felt like home. Warriors, hunters, defenders, even the few that stayed home to tend other things. Houses and other things for the tribe to survive. “This place is amazing.” She looked back at the woman leading her and couldn’t help the smile. “It reminds me of home.”

She paused mid-step for about a second before she continued. Akel led the girl up a side trail, one that would take her away from Elzira but on a small mound that would allow for a good view. It was all the closer she was willing to let a stranger get. Their Mother was just too valuable to expose to outsiders in her opinion. “Why did you leave home then?” If it was so amazing she didn’t understand why the girl was here and not there. To her it made no sense.

“Oh. Well.. I’m curious. My mother traveled a lot and she taught me about the world from her journals. I wanted to see it for myself.” She grinned from ear to ear. Remembering the journals and the stories her mother would tell her made her happy. It also fueled her curiosity. “If possible I want to find something I can teach her about.” It was a big goal but it was one that drove her. If she could just find one thing that she could share with her mother, something new, then she’d be pleased.

The sentiment was a nice one. Not one she shared though. Akel often traveled the surrounding woods and every once in a while she went into an earthling town to trade goods but that was about it. Moving beyond that was too far from her home. Too far from her family. And definitely too far from her Mother Tree for her comfort. “Hm. Well, maybe you can teach her about here.” She didn’t recall ever seeing a hybrid like the Alk from earlier before so surely the Vandrea could teach her something new.

Her face lit up at the thought of teaching her mother about the new place. That was if her mother wasn’t already asking questions and soaking up information like a sea sponge. Still, she nodded her head, sending her antennae bouncing. “That would be great.” Plus she’d have a sketch to show off too. So there was one thing at least. “Would you mind if a sketched you as well?” Having a few profiles of the locals would also make things easier to show her sister.

She frowned at the odd request, looking back at the girl as they came to a stop at the top of the mound. “Why would you want to sketch me?” Akel was actually curious what good would come out of that. Before the girl answered her however, she motioned to the side where the view of Elzira was. “Our Mother Tree. She’s very beautiful, even from here.” She took a second to take in the sight before she glanced at the Vandrea.

“Well.. it would be nice to have some pictures of the locals to show my sister.” She looked down at the ground for a second. It felt like a refusal. Then of course she was distracted with the mention of Elzira. She looked up and gave a soft gasp. “Oh my. She’s so pretty.” Her attention was glued. Calixa was taking in every bit of detail she could. The leaves, the branches, the roots, anything that was there to see she looked. And her fingers itched to get sketching.
