Spring may have officially arrived, but Zena seemed determined to hold on to the winter cold. The trip to town left Fiadah shivering through her coat. She always forgot that the open streets allowed the bitter winds access to pedestrians. She had some shopping to do, but decided that it would be so much easier if she had warm food in her belly first.

She knew better, but logic wouldn't stop her this time!

Inside the tavern was warm and loud, and Fiadah stretched her fingers out happily into the heat. So nice and cozy... "Hey. Soup please!" she chirped to the young iceling behind the bar. When the man went on as though he hadn't heard her, she repeated herself louder. Still no response. She groaned loudly and rubbed a hand over her face. "Come on, Svendle, ya jerk. We can't go through this every single time. Just let me buy some damned soup!"

Ming had come to Zena for trade. Her own farm had produced enough goods that she could travel north to trade with some of the smaller vendors. Of course her business was done and she only needed to return home, but she enjoyed the change of scenery so much she stayed an extra day or two. So she was in the process of coming down from her room when she heard someone complaining about being able to buy soup.

The wind hybrid paused mid-step to look at the girl before she continued over to an empty chair. It was strange to see a Matorian in Zena. She figured they liked the warmer climates. Though due to the girl's age she figured that it was likely her parents that had brought her to the area. Poor thing.

Taking out a few coin she held them up so they were seen then placed them on the surface in front of her. "Wine and soup please." Ming'we was very different from the locals and typically did face some of their prejudice but after she'd married one of the locals it seemed to slack off a bit. In fact she didn't seem to have to wait all that long before she got what she'd asked for. With both items in front of her she looked over at the girl and nudged the soup toward here. "Here little one. It's best when its hot."

Fiadah continued her growling and whining while the tender smirked with irritated amusement and did his best to ignore her. When the soup was pushed toward her, she couldn't help her jaw dropping open. "Oh, uh.. thank you, but he'll serve me eventually. Svendle's just salty 'cause I made a little mess once."

Said iceling spun and glared hard. "You got in a fight and broke my front window! That was expensive as heck to replace, dammit! I'm not feeding you."

Fiadah had the decency to blush with guilt. "I said I was sorry. That witch started it anyway and you know it." She sighed and slid her gaze between the stranger and the soup. She really did need a warm up... "This would be easier though. I can pay you for it, Miss..?"

Seeing the bartender react in such a way made Ming smirk and try to hide her laugh with a bit or a snort as she brought her left hand up to cover her mouth. When she wasn't in danger of laughing outright she lowered her hand so she could speak. "It's alright. If I'd have brought my son with me I'd have bought soup anyways." As it was she'd left her little one at home with his father this time.

She brushed the cost of the soup off. Ming'we had made more than enough coin for it. "Ah. Ming'we. My name is Ming'we." She nodded her head toward the girl with a softer smile.

She chanced a glance at the tender as she lifted her glass of wine to her lips. She didn't want him to be too upset. After all she had another night of staying at the place. Which meant another meal or two to hopefully enjoy.

"At least 'that witch' has the decency to not come back her herself," Svendle huffed out as he gave the counter a grouchy swipe. He looked to Ming'we and snorted. "Well, it's your money." Another customer waved at him and he left to tend to them.

Fiadah grinned brightly. The given name tickled some deeper part of her brain, but it wasn't enough to get her full attention. "Thank you, Ming'we. I'm Fiadah." She wiggled excitedly in her seat as she pulled the bowl closer to herself and scooped up a spoonful. "Mmmm! Just what I needed." She continued to eat while her attention turned to the stranger. "Did you move here recently? I haven't seen you before."

She watched him go his own way before her attention was brought back to the girl once again. Ming smiled as she was given a name to call her. Fiadah. It was a cute name. As Fiadah started to eat Ming'we drank her wine.

It wasn't until the next question that she lowered her glass. "Oh no. I just traveled up from Sauti to do a bit of trade. My farm did good this past season." And doing trade in Zena was easier than Sauti due to the weather and landscape.

"I take it you live around here." It was a statement more than a question. If the girl was used to the common faces then she'd been there a while at least.

Fiadah raised a curious brow. "Farming? What sorta stuff do you farm? I live on a farm. My papa keeps animals." She cocked her head. "I guess 'farm' isn't the right word. More a shelter and animal clinic. Lots of animals."

She nodded over another spoonful. "Yup. Lived here most of my life." She couldn't help an amused smirk. She got the confusion often, but the woman was being decent about it. "My sister and I were born in Matori, like our papa, but baba's from up here and papa does whatever baba wants. Mostly."

She smiled and offered a bit of a chuckle. "Well, mostly I grow my own food. When I have extra I trade it or sell it. I've not added animals to the mix yet." Ming'we needed to get her fields in better shape before she did that. The greenhouse also took a lot of her time as well.

"Well, its very nice of your baba to do that for your papa." She smiled. Ming'we stayed close to the Zenan border for her husband so she could understand that. Even if she might have better luck farther south when it came to growing crops. That's why her greenhouse was so important. "Hopefully you and your sister like it as much as your papa."

Fiadah nodded as though she knew exactly what Ming'we was talking about, though her knowledge on farming was limited to the small garden her parents kept at home to supplement meals. "You should get one that gives you milk. Nothing like a fresh cup of milk before bed."

She chuckled lightly. She liked being the tough one, but she couldn't hide her soft side for sweet and sentimental stories. "Papa complains about the cold all the time," she said with a laugh. "We don't mind it much. It's nicer to explore when it's cooler out. When we visit our grandparents in Matori, it feels way too hot to me. Baba's family is in Jauhar, and that gets yucky, too. I think they pick Jauhar because of grandpa Callum's feathers. I haven't seen them, but I bet wearing coats over them wouldn't be comfortable."

Something that produced milk might be a good idea. It would mean they wouldn't have to buy it so often. And her son liked to drink it often enough that it would be worth it. Not to mention the uses for cooking. Ming'we would have to really get the fields situated.

As the girl told her more about her family she sat back and listened. Her wine swirling in her cup beofre she brought it to her lips once more. Matori was a place she'd not been to but she had been to the Oban border. It was fairly warm there. Jauhar was nice to her when there was a breeze to accompany the heat. As Ming listened she caught a name that Fiadah just casually dropped and it made her half spit out her wine as she started to cough. Callum!?

Sitting upright and quickly putting her cup down, Ming coughed into her other hand for a minute before she was together enough to look at Fiadah. "Did you say Callum?" She stared at the girl. She knew he had children but she'd not seen him in so long that she hadn't been aware of grandchildren. Then again she'd been closeted away on her little farm for a while. "What uh... what are your father's names?" Since she hadn't mentioned a mother she could rule out Ygraine, obviously, so that left Sol. Right? Or had Callum had more children she hadn't met? How bad of an aunt had she been while she'd been drowning in her own depression?

Fiadah jerked upright with a yelp. "You okay lady?" She reached over to put her hand on Ming'we's back supportively.

Svendle hurried back over from the other end of the bar. "Ma'am, are you alright? Fiadah, I swear to Chi if you broke a customer this time..!"

Fiadah bared her teeth. "I didn't do anything. See? She's breathing fine." Still, her expression was concerned again as she turned back to the hybrid. Her brow rose at the question of her grandfather. "Uh, yeah. Grandpa Callum..." She couldn't help suddenly being wary of this woman. She knew that her family had a fairly dramatic past, though she of course did not know details, and worried she was about to step onto thin ice. "My.. my parents are Koril and Sol. ...Why?"

She smiled and waved Svendle off. "Wrong pipe was all." She hadn't meant to make such a scene but the news had been startling. Ming'we waited for Fidah to answer her and when she did..

To say her eyes watered a little would be an understatement. Ming was sure she felt a tear or two run down her cheeks. "Sol? That sweet boy had babies?" She brought both hands up to cover her mouth as she tried to wrap her head around the news. She was basically staring at her.. great niece. "Oh. Look at you. Such a beautiful girl." Her words were muffled by her hands.

When she finally did move them she gave a watery chuckle. "I'm going to wring Callum's neck for not telling me that my nephew had children." Maybe she'd pluck a few of his feathers out while she was at it since he'd grown a few. That was another matter entirely to address but it could wait.

Fiadah continued watching the woman cautiously. Was she crying?! She shifted uneasily in her chair, quite uncertain under such an unexpectedly loving gaze from a stranger. "I mean, he didn't exactly have us.. You know baba?" Her eyes widened more. "Nephew? So you're, like, baba and aunt Ygraine's auntie? Grandpa's sister?"

At the comment that Sol didn't actually have Fidah she waved it off. She didn't care. If she had been adopted then that was as good as Sol having had children to her. After all, she'd thought about adopting as well before she'd met her husband. "Hm. I call Callum my brother just as much as my own twin." Family was complicated after all.

"I've not seen Sol since he was a teen." Which meant she was seriously falling behind on her Auntie duties. And if his daughter was already as old as Fidah then she had many years to make up for. Clearly. "To think he's been living here.. so close to my own farm."

Now Fiadah was settling into the sudden familiarity and she finally began to smile eagerly. "You're my auntie! Cool!" This was quite the expansive family she had. It just kept getting bigger every time she turned around. Time for the short version of a life update! "Yeah, my parents got me and Nimia when I was a baby. She's a little older than me, and she uses magic like baba! Papa runs the animal stuff and I like helpin' him with that."

She cocked her head slightly. "Why haven't you seen them in so long?"
