After all their family had gone through recently, Sylvirah felt it was time for a little fun. The session with their youngest daughters had started out that way, but the weywa attack put a damper on the evening. In the following days she’d taken to thinking about something that Zyphire personally might enjoy and inspiration came in the form of a Spring Festival.

The season was typically known for its coming warmth and the life that came with it. If ever there was a time to hope for better days this was it.

The festival itself was held in Zidel proper and was massive in scale. Daytime events ranged from tournaments to baking contests and talent shows, performances from Belrea; the list went on. What she’d suggested was the evening activities; specifically, the parties that weren’t suitable for younger audiences. Even with a bit of a n** to the air all of the dances were held outside by torchlight and a magical aura circulated around the square to provide enough warmth to ward off frostbite. Still, it wasn’t to keep Sylvirah from feeling uncomfortably exposed in her evening dress. It clung to her ample curves, and while the violet gown had longer sleeves it also held a plunging neckline. With the way her hair was pulled up she looked almost delicate; if one was able to overlook her muscles.

“What do you want to try first?”

Focus on the festival. Despite how beautiful the evening decorations were, the colorful banners and stalls from the daytime exchanged for glowing crystals and torches that lit up their path, the Shifter's gaze kept drifting to Sylvirah. It was very uncommon to see her dressed up and while Zyphire found her beautiful and fierce in her hunting garb, this other appearance was also very lovely and much more tempting. Zyphire knew that the festival was Sylvirah trying to bring some happiness in their life after all of the recent drama and while he deeply appreciated her efforts it was hard to not veer from the path and indulge in something other than dancing. Later, Zyphire, later. The Shifter gave a shake of his head, his fingers moving to fiddle with his open tunic in order to keep him from reaching for anything else as they walked along. Like Sylvirah the Shifter was in more revealing garb that he often didn't wear in the northern area. Thanks to the warmth around the festival, Zyphire was in a deep sapphire silk tunic with silver embroidery with tight leggings and leather boots that he normally wore while traveling instead of when he was here and covered with furs.

Of course that was when Sylvirah asked her question and the Shifter had absolutely no filter. "You." He replied with a small smirk before moving a step closer to Sylvirah, his arm going around her waist before he looked away at the last minute to study the area. "Though I suppose if we're talking about festivity related activities then checking out food first may be more appropriate."

Sylvirah passively reached up to pick at the cuffs on her ears. It felt odd to have anything on them, since she’d never been pierced, but for the occasion she’d thought to add a little something. There were tiny dangling crystals held aloft by a chain and while she couldn’t feel the weight the knowledge that something was moving just out of her line of sight was unnerving at times.

While Sylvirah could count the amount of times she’d gone out in a dress on one hand, her partner was much less reserved. His own record of dress wearing aside, she’d seen him in finer clothing a few times, and while she preferred him in leathers he cut a delicious figure in his tunic. ”Søt snakker.” She raised a hand to his upper back and leaned back in his hold to look up toward Zyphire, then out at the crowd as a whole.

“You’ve got me here, in my finest, and you want to eat food?” Sylvirah clucked her tongue with a smirk. ”You should have snacked before we came.”

All Zyphire could do was chuckle quietly as he held onto Sylvirah. "Du ser for nydelig ut." He protested with a smirk as he glanced over her, his breath tickling her ear as he playfully blew against the little crystals dangling there. "It makes it hard to think straight whenever my appetite is aroused." The Shifter admitted quietly before glancing back around at the festivities, his gaze narrowing as he actually tried to think about something else that they could do other than food. There were stalls that were open and while they were not exactly like the childish ones displayed earlier in the day several did have interesting games and objects for sale. "Did you want to find a gift for tonight? There's plenty of things on sale that we could browse. We're not dressed for the fighting competitions....there's the elaborate tea ceremony set up along the edge of the festivities and even an oracle is supposedly here if you'd like to see about your future."

A mischievous glint was in Zyphire's gaze as he looked back to Sylvirah. "Of course there's also music in the center of this if you'd like to begin dancing now." His eyebrows raised with amusement as he mimicked twisting Sylvirah, his body moving ever so slightly against her as if preparing for a dip before he simply froze in positioned and straightened back up. "I don't mind starting with dancing if you aren't worried about having tired legs for walking around afterwards."

A shiver caused Sylvirah to tighten her grip and lean her head away, temporarily giving him better access. When she caught a fair look at the festival around her she saw a few older Zenans pausing in their conversation to look their way before one gave the other a playful shove and they laughed a little among themselves.

“The last time we saw a heks you wouldn’t let me buy their potions so whose to say your would listen to their reading?” Moving in tandem with him wasn’t anything new for the iceling and twisting around in his arms came second nature now, though it remained a thrill and yet…even the word ‘dancing’ brought a curl to her lip.

That is why she’d picked a dress with a little bit of leg room…though she could feign an injury and-

“I’ve never been one for dancing, but for you I will try. Before we go, though, there is one vendor I want to find. He’s a salesman I was told would be here tonight.”

"Fair enough, but readings don't involve sacrifices and drinking strange brews....unless you really don't trust tea." Teased Zyphire quietly as he ran a finger along Sylvirah's skin. Zyphire managed a light kiss along Sylvirah's neck before her question had him pulling away. "A vendor...you want to find?" His expression was curious, the shifter crossing his arms as he studied his lover. "Do I dare ask what he sells?" As his skin was fading so did his gaze also grow darker to match the dusky sky, the look making him look more serious as he studied the iceling. What could Sylvirah have in mind this time? Not that he was against visiting a vendor, rather the man was just curious about what could get Sylvirah's interest. She was already attending a festival like this, something rare for the pair of them, and now for her to be seeking a salesman? Curious indeed.

"Since we're enjoying the festival, I won't protest though I do like to know what I'm getting into." Zyphire teased despite his concern, the Shifter glancing about as he tried to find the path towards the merchant stalls. There was a split to the path that went away from the center of the city where the dancing was happening and he assumed it would be down that way. Already he felt like the gleaming torches were growing darker along the side path, his mind potentially playing tricks on him while he wondered what type of danger would be waiting him at this particular vendor's store.

“I just need to pick something up; it’s a surprise.” One that she’d done as much research on as she could, at that! She reached for his hand, taking that bit of extra time to watch the subtleties in his skin as it changed, and held onto it as they meandered toward the shopping area. “I’ve had contact with them and if it eases your worries Yngvara was the one who wrote the letters. So it’s perfectly innocent.” Of course she would have done it without the girl’s approval if her heart was set on it, but Sylvirah couldn’t write so she’d needed the extra bit of help.

Several of the stalls were swathed in light thanks to magical, floating orbs and others still had their own variety of torches. Those with a bit more of a mystical flare had the most customers, and it was one such vendor that Sylvirah stopped by.

The decorations were simple but fitting for a spring festival. Glowing lichen grew up the wooden support poles and several impossibly large glowing mushrooms decorated the underside of the canopy. Even with a thin layer of snow dusting the ground outside of the event flowers still grew a plenty around the stalls base creating a peaceful aroma. The vendor themselves was a Shifter who was in a similar state of transition as Zyphire. While a little shorter, he was no less handsome and appeared younger than his years. The exterior of the stall gave the impression of an apothecary, but in truth it was an enchanted smithy. Dozens of blades were on display, each section looked after by another Shifter, and not a single one looked basic.

When she waved a hand his way the stall owner came over with a smile, “See one you’re interested in? If you have any questions I’d be happy to answer.” When he saw Zyphire, his smile brightened. “Don’t know about you, friend, but I’m glad it’s finally Spring.”

“I’m here to pick up. The name’s Sylvirah.”

“Ah, sure, one moment.” And he went off in search of the package. In the meantime Sylvirah turned to her husband and knocked his hip with her own.

“See? No worries.”

"You see I could confirm how innocent this was if I saw it." Protested Zyphire, his lips pursed into a slight pout at the idea of a surprise. Whatever could it be that Sylvirah was picking up here? Zyphire's gaze was thoughtful as he walked after her through the stalls, his fingers lacing lightly with the iceling's own as he kept close. There were a few other couples in the crowd, many simply browsing the shops while others faded into shadows along the way as they continued along past the floating orbs and torches. It almost felt otherworldly with how different Zidel looked tonight. A bit romantic, most definitely. Zyphire smiled at the very thought and tightened his grip on Sylvirah's hand, giving a slight squeeze before they came to a stop.

At first he had been worried about their stop, the sight of the stall making him remember their last encounter with potions, but then all of the weapons caught his attention. While Zyphire wasn't carrying his usual dual blades tonight because of the festivities there were still several throwing knives strapped along his body, the man having learned how to tuck away such things with ease over the years. It would be a lie to say that he wasn't interested in all the various displays, but what had him confused was why they were at this particular place tonight. Still such confusion did nothing to dampen the amused smile that Zyphire gave towards the other Shifter. "Even better when summer hits, maybe then we'll feel alive again." He teased, even though part of it was true since he thrived the best in the heat. At least they weren't in the far north where the bitter winds never seemed to cease no matter what season. Zyphire could not imagine even trying to live there even as a Zenan and the very thought that others had done so in the past was terrifying.

The little hip bump brought a chuckle to his lips and Zyphire could only bump Sylvirah back before raising a brow. "I suppose though I still hate not knowing whatever this surprise is." He teased back before moving so that he could glance over a dagger, the Shifter picking it up and twirling it with ease. "Are you picking up hunting gear? Very fancy gear at that, Sylvirah."

“I can only hope.” One of the other shifters commented as she passed behind the stall. Her nimble fingers, covered in gloves to protect from the chill she’d yet to acclimate to, lifted a large, ornate axe before taking it to the other edge of the stall for a waiting patron. She passed by the man Sylvirah had been waiting on, mumbled a few things about pricing, and then smiled before continuing her way. Sylvirah had heard about the Shifters before and knew them to be a married couple who often traveled for festivals, but she’d always assumed they were older. If anything they looked a few years younger than herself.

“It is fancy.” Was all she said before reaching for a dagger herself. And expensive. She’d never spent so much on something in her entire life, which wasn’t saying much considering Sylvirah rarely used coin at all. The most she’d dealt with it was on their trip to Matori.

When the vendor came back it was with a dagger that was nearly the length of a short sword. The sheath was a lovely, dusky grey that was almost blue under the orb light. The hilt itself was inlaid with silver and its wraps were of a soft, yet durable, black leather. Looking between the two, he hesitated, “Which of you would like to inspect it?”

“He can.” Sylvirah nodded toward Zyphire. “It’s for you. I found Veter’s name through a smith in Zidel. The blade has a spiral so it tears on the way out and is nearly impossible to heal.” She looked back to Veter. “You made it that way, right?”

“I did.” The man seemed to be torn between pride in his work and an underlying worry. “The blade is also made of a falling star; so it’s durable and decorative, should you choose not to wield it.” Was he hoping for the later? Maybe.

"Oh." Zyphire blinked in surprise before placing down the dagger he was fiddling with to hold the new one that Sylvirah had bought for him. "You would." He managed after a moment, his voice surprisingly soft despite the chuckle that left him as he listened to Sylvirah's explanation of the blade and its functions. The Shifter hoped he wouldn't have to spill blood with such a beautiful blade but even he knew that anything could happen, especially while traveling between countries throughout the year. The last time he had ended so many lives though....well that was when they had saved Sylvirah's village. The very thought made his gaze drift towards the iceling, a curious expression on his face. "Thank you, I'll treasure it." For once his voice was sincere and not full of the usual teasing and playful mirth that was common for Zyphire. All he could do was twist the dagger in his hands one final time before carefully tucking it away, the sheath fitting perfectly along his belt.

There was some amusement as he looked back to the smith. "It's beautiful work and I wouldn't want to stain the blade." Obviously that could mean that he would be keen to clean it if the blade did ever get dirty, but that was something Zyphire left up in the air. How ever the other Shifter wanted to interpret his words was totally up to him even if Zyphire did mean something completely different. "Well this just leaves me feeling like I missed a good chance for you. Are you certain that there's nothing here that you would like, Sylvirah?" Truly Zyphire had been thinking of something, but even he did not know how to bring such a thing up unless they found the perfect vendor at another stall. What would be the chances? Even though he already knew plenty enough considering his own commission that waited for them further down the path. "If not then we're already out and about in the shops so we may as well enjoy before dancing until dawn." He teased lightly, his hand resting against the sheath as he touched the precious gift once more.

While the smith may have given a pleasant chuckle, there was real relief in his exhale. “I’ll admit it was strange request. I’m not often contacted by such bold clientele, but I was happy to take up the challenge.” When he was certain that they were happy and well taken care of the Shifter moved around to other patron’s of his stall.

Sylvirah had been keen to keep her eyes on Zyphire as he inspected the blade. It was far more flashy in person than she’d thought possible, but it’s functionality was what she’d searched for. Something that would keep Zyphire safe on his travels; a blade that would make sure he came back to her every Spring, without fail. “I’ve got you to myself; that’s gift enough.” She reached for his hand once more and gave it a squeeze. “Was there something you wanted to look for?”

"A true huntress doesn't play around." Zyphire advised before watching the Shifter move away to deal with others browsing the stall's wares. Perhaps if the stall was still here tomorrow then the Shifter would take another walk around and see if anything for other family members stood out to him. Not that he dared to find anything more precious than Sylvirah's gift to him, even Zyphire could recognize the value in the priceless dagger, but it would be nice to find a few things for all the fighters in their families.

"You've been around me too much." Teased Zyphire quietly, the man reaching over with his free hand to tuck a stray strand of hair back behind Sylvirah's ear. The loving gesture was completed with a gentle kiss to the forehead before he tugged Sylvirah along after him away from the stall. "There's another stall around the corner that caught my eye." He stated with a small smile. "You may not be the only one with surprises tonight, but this one may take a while to show itself." Now that they were back on the path with dancing lights, the torches glowing even brighter now that the sun was truly sinking beneath the horizon, Zyphire started towards the other side away from the smithy. Another stall would be there with intricate vines and silhouettes of creatures crossing the worn wood, the decoration made of various metals unlike the more natural appearance of the previous stall. Crystals also decorated the exterior, delicate things that chimed whenever the breeze brushed through the area, and even they seemingly had a glow like the decorations along the festival paths.

Inside was a variety of metal and crystal art, some statues and other such decorations with rows of cases that held gleaming jewels and jewelry made of both crystal and metals. "Looks like there's a few things to browse for. We just can never bring Revna here." Zyphire advised with a small smile before going to look for the iceling woman who owned the stall. Her husband would be a familiar face, someone from their own village who took his metal work into the capitol once he fell in love with the most delicate woman who was also a skilled artisan.

"You've made me soft." Her smile softened under his kiss, and as they walked she made sure to stay by his side. Even now, after watching his transformation, it still caught Sylvirah by surprise to see how much his features had changed under the moonlight. It made aspects of Zyphire that didn't stand out as much during the day all the more prevalent and she couldn't help thinking him even more beautiful in the glow of night.

Her dress fluttered around Sylvirah's legs as she walked, and despite the thin leggings she'd worn for added warmth she could still feel the odd sensation. It was enough to have her reaching down with her free hand to grasp the fabric, willing it to stop, even just a little, as they made their way toward another stall. This one was just as intriguing as the last though unique in ways she hadn't thought possible.

"She would bleed us dry," Sylvirah chuckled, "And what she didn't have us buy she would take." When she noticed who was running the stall her smile grew, but she didn't dare interrupt them. If they were in the middle of a sale then she didn't want to take it from them so Sylvirah instead started to peruse their wares.

A playful shiver went down Zyphire's spine. "I don't even want to think about the damages if she horded all of these things." He joked before watching Sylvirah start to peruse the wares. Once she seemed occupied enough with that the Shifter slipped away from her side to seek out Ivar, the iceling lingering around the side and finishing up with another patron. Once he turned and spotted Zyphire there was a large grin on his face. "Ah, endelig!" He gushed as he reached out and clapped Zyphire on the shoulder. "Evalie! He's here." The artisan gestured for his wife who quickly disappeared behind the curtain blocking out the back part of the store, the petite woman appearing a moment later with a wooden box for Zyphire.

"No so loudly, Ivar." Teased Zyphire as the man realized that Sylvirah was actually in the stall with Zyphire, just dressed in a way that he had never seen before. Zyphire elbowed the man playfully when he noticed him gaping before teasing Evalie. "You should probably find ways to distract him before his loud mouth ruins this." A chuckle left his lips as he watched the pair purposefully find new customers to dart away too even though Ivar did wave towards Sylvirah before Evalie grabbed his hand and tugged the larger man after her.

A peek in the box confirmed that everything was set and Zyphire found himself nodding happily. "Alright then." The Shifter tucked it into his sash before making his way back towards Sylvirah, his steps slow and calculated even though the Shifter now felt an urgency or rather impatience to reveal whatever secret he had. How did it even compare to the gift that Sylvirah had gotten for him? Where they in sync tonight? Had the romance of the festival just infected them both? He wanted to joke about it but honestly all Zyphire could do was brush up against Sylvirah, his voice low as he peered over her shoulder. "That bracelet looks nice. Is that a chiavi on it?" He asked with an impressed look. "Ivar is getting better at his designs."

Endelig? Sylvirah couldn’t help turning her gaze up from the offerings in front of her toward the pair of men. Even as she tried to ‘play it off’ like she wasn’t watching, her skills at subtly weren’t nearly as keen as her hearing. For a moment she kept an eye on them before shrugging to herself and looking back over the jewelry. With so much happening around them she couldn’t pick up everything that was being said, but when Sylvirah looked up next Ivar and Evalie were moving away from them. She waved to the pair with a smile, almost wishing she’d had a chance to speak to them longer, when she noticed Zyphire moving back to her.

“Mmm. It looks like Ada.” She lifted the bracelet to inspect it under the torchlight. Even if she wasn’t one for grand jewelry Sylvirah had to admit it was a sight to behold. “Evalie’s rubbed off on him. The curves around the feathers have gotten crisp. He couldn’t do that when he was with us.” Of course, he’d never really had the chance. Most work done within the Ild’vann was purposeful and precise without any sort of whimsy. If it wasn’t useful it was a waste, but now she wondered how many of their people could do things like this if given the time?

“He was staring at me like I was a stranger.”
