Back Alley Potions
Solo or RP Format Counts as 5 RP growth Points Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
Magical potions are a bit of a risk in Tendaji, believe it or not. It might be because most are used to working with natural items, or that many potions don't always have their intended effects. Some of the more dubious ones have been rumored to cause scales to grow, or blindness. So if you pass by someone in a back alley saying they have a potion to help you grow two feet taller, it's often better to look the other way.
Or is it?
What would you find if you looked over at what they had to sell? Is it really all that strange? Or maybe you'll find a fun hidden gem worth taking home.
[ What might you find someone selling if you approached a back-alley potion shop? Note: Potions that change appearance with growths are event-limited and may not be purchased/used from this prompt ]

Ujiri 1 With nothing else to really do for a few hours Ujiri had decided to wander the market. Usually he stayed away since there was too many people but today it was a thinner crowd so it wasn't too bad. As he passed by a side street something caught his eye, so naturally he paused to take a look. When the hybrid turned his head to get a better look he noticed a makeshift little stall that had a bunch of bottles full of different liquids on the shelves. What stood out to Ujiri was that one of the shelves was slanted, as though the seller hadn't bothered to make sure it was level. Intrigued to see what it was the man was selling he shrugged his shoulders, figuring it couldn't be too bad to find out, and headed down the alley. There were a few other people by the little stall so he figured it must be at least a little interesting.

(1/7) Really, it was ridiculous that Elsheba was down in some earthling settlement, peeking at strange potion bottles in a dark, cramped alleyway, but here she inarguably was and she could only hope that none of her Aishan sisters witnessed her lapse in sanity. The stall was quickly cobbled together, with a thin and overly eager earthling man running it, which made her dismiss the possibility of it being dangerous - even if the vials of varying sizes and colors looked grubby and like the glass hadn't had a decent wash in months.
Well, she supposed they only had to be clean on the inside, right? Elsheba loitered behind a few other people as they inspected the shelves, her arms crossed and lips pursed into a pensive frown.
She wasn't even sure what she was looking for here, but her curiosity was piqued regardless, and it wasn't as if she had anything else to do here other than head back to Chibale eventually. She barely even noticed when another customer approached, from her periphery.

Ujiri 2With other people up front and personal with the bottles, he hung back and simply tilted his head to the side to get a peek around one customer. Ujiri slowly moved closer until he was next to another who was standing back. At first he paid them no mind as something else had his attention but when his awareness told him this person was taller than an earthling he blinked a few times before turning his attention to them. What he saw was a full Alkidike in the flesh and it wasn't his own mother or sister. It wasn't all that rare to see them on the main land too much anymore but it was interesting to see one intrigued by potions. So he arched a brow with curiosity before he spoke up. "Looking for something in particular?" Ujiri had to admit he wanted to know what it was this sister could be after and why they thought a shabby stall like this could have it.

(2/7) Elsheba thought nothing of the person who came up beside her. Instead, she watched as an older earthling finally decided to make a purchase, dropping a small handful of coins into the eager hands of the stall owner. There was a certain greediness to his movements, but that didn't necessarily mean his potions didn't work, right?
Elsheba was considering moving closer to look at the labels, in search of one that would apply to her, when a voice beside her piped up. It took a moment for her to realize they were speaking to her.
It was... a hybrid. A male, at that, hair in thick dreads, skin dark but marked, if unfaded. It wasn't the first hybrid she'd ever seen, but he gave her pause regardless.
"Hmm." She hummmed, tilting her head back to the display. "I'm mainly considering if he sells medicine or poisons." She admitted, in a flat unimpressed voice, under her breath - but not quiet enough that other would-be customers didn't hear her.

So that was what was so interesting to the Alkidike. Ujiri looked back at the stall and the owner of it all. He debated for a second before speaking again. "Likely a bit of both." While the man looked like he wanted to take each bit of coin the small crowd had it didn't mean he was out to harm them all. Swindle perhaps but not harm. "Which one were you looking for?" He knew there were some Alks in the world that didn't like earthlings or hybrids and would have no issues with getting their hands on poisons but others were more interested in medicines to help their own kind. Not many would go out of their way to help an earthling or a hybrid. His own mother was one of the few.

(3/7) Hmm. Elsheba snorted and quirked her lips at the younger Aishan, propping a hand against her hip as she finally turned from the display and towards him instead. "Well... 'likely a bit of both." She repeated, smirking teasingly. Then she laughed and shook her head, gesturing back towards the bottles. "I'm supposed to travel to Belrea soon, and heard the ships can make you ill. I'm not sure what I should get, other than a sedative."
If she knew WHY the ships made people sick she'd be better prepared, but she hadn't been able to find anyone to explain to her what sort of illness to expect. Was it the chill of the air or sea? Was it part of the strange, alien mechanism the ship used to fly?
She didn't like admitting to a stranger she was confused, but she was and there was no helping it.

When she used his own words as a reply he couldn't help but roll his eyes at her. Of course the following statement made him give a slight quirk of a single brow. "Trying to poison yourself? I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not. Would be a shame to lose someone so attractive." Ujiri was just being sassy at that point. Still, the trip to Belrea sounded interesting. He'd heard about the airships and whatnot, not that he'd ever seen one first hand. In his mind he wouldn't think it would be any different than a regular ship though. Only difference was that it was in the air. "I would think it'd be similar to traveling by sea. So perhaps the air equivalent to sea sickness?" A strong wind could cause the ship to rock just like a wave, right? "Perhaps a good distraction would be the best option." He grinned a little at the comment.

(4/7) What a cheeky little thing! Elsheba laughed as the earthling-hybrid rolled his eyes (really, such an odd thing to see for an Alkidike!). As to his point... well, it wasn't as if she'd ever 'traveled by sea' either, but she would take his word for it. She narrowed her eyes a bit at the mention of 'sea sickness', and opened her mouth to ask, but was taken off guard by his next suggestion. "A ... distraction." She repeated, arching a rounded brow at him. "Like a... book?"

Ujiri smirked at the apparent confusion and let out a small laugh. "Sure. A book. Though I don't think that would be enough to distract someone from feeling ill." Not exactly what he'd had in mind but he figured the older woman wouldn't be thinking what he was. So he turned his head to the side slightly to cough into his fisted hand. "I meant more like a partner.." Someone to keep her mind off things. Either with conversation or something else. Surely she had one. When he looked back at the Alk he couldn't help the little grin he wore. Maybe now her mind would be on the same page as his. "Of course you can still look at potions. Maybe a love potion would help with the distraction part." He motioned toward the shop and the bottles on display.

(5/7) First the comment about her being attractive, and now the blatant fishing for whether or not she had a partner. What a bold little thing! Any other young one floating around her would have been met with a swat and a shake of her head, but she was rather taken aback at his boldness and, if she was honest with herself, flattered by it. She wasn't exactly the image of a young Alkidike anymore - not an Elder by any means, but she must have been old enough to be his mother, if not worse!
When he peeked back at her, grinning, she was giving him a dubious look that broke when she tilted back her head and laughed. It wasn't dainty, by any means - though she did find her hand bracing against her sternum as she did so. "Hah. I've got nothing like that, young man. And not desperate enough to go to those lengths." She wrinkled her nose at the suggestion of a love potion.
"Do you make it a habit to flirt with old women perusing suspicious stalls in dark alleyways, or am I just special?" It was hilarious, in hindsight, but she still stood here talking to him so clearly she didn't take his approach badly.

His brows rose to his hairline as he took in her words, even nodded his head a little as he looked from her to the stall. Still, Ujiri smirked as he thought about it. "I might be young but I can definitely entertain a seasoned woman." Was he being a little cocky? Yes. He couldn't help it. Something about this one made him want to step on that line. "Oh no." Ujiri looked back at her, his eyes clearly taking her in from head to toe. "You're just special." He winked at her after saying as much, a small chuckle following.

(6/7) Ridiculous. But Elsheba couldn't stop smiling at this silly boy, all thoughts of the potions she'd been eyeing forgotten. He was shameless, not even batting an eye when she criticized him for hitting on her in such a place.
It should have put her off, but it somehow didn't. "Well. Do that mean you're volunteering? To keep me 'distracted'?"
Beside her, an earthling perusing the stall realized the two were making euphemisms, and made a disgusted noise, which only made Elsheba toss her head back, laughing heartily. "Come now, let's leave these people in peace. Let me buy you a drink, little man."

Volunteering? Ujiri supposed in a way he was. "I wasn't planning on a trip to Belrea but sure." He looked at the earthling that made the noise and only arched a brow at them. If they didn't want to hear things then maybe they should mind their own business. Still, the fact that the woman laughed was a good sign at least. When she offered to buy him a drink he smirked at her. "Well, at least you are a woman with some standards. I like to be wined before I dine." The hybrid held his hand out for her, still being somewhat cocky. "I might even tell you my name if you ask real nice."

(7/7) Well no, Elsheba wasn't so ridiculous as to expect a stranger to come with her on such a trip just because he was flirting. But at the very least he would be a good distraction until he grew bored, right? She snorted though and turned her head away, muffling her laughter against her hand when he readily agreed. What a strange young man!
"Oh? Well I'll be on my best behavior then." She teased, winking at him. She didn't grasp his extended hand, but instead tucked her hand against the crook of his arm, letting him lure her away from the sketchy stall. There really nothing worth risking her health there, after all.
