Ever since Siel had started to travel on his own he'd ended up in a bevy of strange places. Matori, Yael, Belrea; Siel imagined that if he'd pressed his luck he could have gone to the Kahikina, but the minstrel thought better of it. As much as his nomadic upbringing called to him he had no love in his heart for sea travel, and the thought of an airship made him nervous. How did they stay in the air, anyway? Nothing about it made sense! Something that large had to be heavy and he wasn't about to pay to die.

So, rather than risk his fate, Siel had gone northward into Tale. While he was far from experienced in the area, he had passed through a number of times when visiting family. It was for that reason alone that he knew to go to one particular village for a very specific reason.

The village chieftan was a very large, very generous man who adored his only daughter so much that he threw a massive party to celebrate her birth every year. Travelers were encouraged to stop just to enjoy the atmosphere and if you had a 'gift' for the little 'princess' then all the better! Siel wasn't one to turn down free food and lodging, especially not when there was a party involved. By the time he arrived the event was in full swing. The hybrid found himself edging around a large, sprawling concession table, unapologetically reaching for a few free pastries as he looked over the crowd.

Zumei had heard free food from a local and been in. A life of travel didn't exactly make for decent meals, and any chance to stock up on fancy food made it even better. She didn't know who was being celebrated, and honestly didn't care top much. All she knew is free food was the absolute best. She'd grabbed a plate and had started small, a couple of things here and there, however now that she'd been around once her plate was piled like the small mountains she had seen in her travels. Zumei was an incredibly pleased individual in this moment. A pleasant sigh escaped her as she searched for a nearby place to sit, but was nearly ruined when she felt her plate start to wobble.

"Oh no my food," Zumei panicked, mouth forming a shocked 'o' as she attempted to prevent it from toppling into someone.

Siel barely heard the words before he saw the food coming toward him. With his own plate stacked horrendously high the hybrid couldn't side step as fast as he wanted so what managed to fall from her plate ended up on his arm. Instead of being angry about it, Siel just got one good look at the windlings pile and laughed.

"You too, huh?" Honestly, the Talean that was closest to him looked more aghast than he did. Thankfully none of it had touched his shirt sleeve (he'd rolled them up for a reason), so when he could manage to find a table it would be easy enough to wipe up. "Since you're here, see any open spots? I didn't come with anyone and the only chairs I'm finding are with larger groups, like that one." He motioned toward the closest table. The entire group consisted of older women who while pleasant enough with their commentary and laughs kept giving him the dirtiest of looks. One even outright tapped the available seat.

Zumei grinned and held up her plate in greeting now that it was a bit more stable. She winked at the Talean in question, shoving a whole roll into her mouth and devouring it before speaking. "You bet! One does not simply pass up free food, even if I don't exactly know what the celebration is."

She took a look around the tables until she spotted a lucky break, two open spots beside each other at the end. If she needed to fight someone to get it she would, and she definitely made eye contact with a middle aged woman looking to throw down. "We're going this way now, pretty boy," she laughed, balancing her plate as she grabbed hold of his arm and tugged. The slow lost out on the best things after all!

Oh now this girl he liked. Siel didn't even have to pretend like he wasn't about to lift his plate a little higher so he could take a bite of the offerings. "Do you see-" Siel made a 'hmm'ing sound as he scoured the party before nudging her with an elbow toward a large, portly Talean. "-that guy? The one in the big hat? It's his daughter's birthday."

Siel didn't need to be told twice! As soon as he caught onto where they were going he used his larger size to help cut a path through the crowd. He may not have had much Aishan blood, but it was enough! Pretty boy? Well, he couldn't argue that one, but he also couldn't help the stupid grin that came across his face.

The closer they got to the seats the faster the competition started to walk. At this point the older woman was briskly moving at the same pace and purpose as someone who was about to talk to a shop owner in the market. Before she could reach a seat Siel grabbed the back of the closest one, and dropped into it.

Zumei glanced around innocently before lobbing a sizeable handful of mashed potatoes at the woman, ducking into the chair beside Siel with her stacked plate of food. She was obviously very innocent until proven guilty after all, and with the crowd of people she wondered if the woman would even know the culprit. Zumei grinned as she heard the woman shriek, shoving a whole roll into her mouth to consume before turning more towards Siel.

"Well I suppose I'll have to thank his daughter for loving food. Or maybe the fancy man himself for deciding to invite all these strangers. It's a win for us I'd say," she laughed, wiping her hand on her shorts before holding it out to him. "I'm Zumei. Nice to meet you and all that!"

For a moment Siel was practically bouncing with excited energy as he watched the entire ordeal unfold, but by the time the woman had cleared her eyes of the potatoes he was very innocently turned back to his own plate. For a moment he thought her indignant cries would get him into trouble, but oh would you just look at that, he didn't have any potatoes on his plate! As desperately as he wanted to watch her searching for the culprit he knew if he turned around then all hell would break loose.

So, instead, he turned to the windling, clearly ready to gossip about it to her - Until he saw her wiping her hands and a massive grin split his face. Siel eager took her hand and gave it a hearty shake. "I'm Siel. You really should stop by here more often; these parties are always an adventure."

"You don't say? Maybe I'll come around for more free food then," Zumei laughed, matching the hearty shake with her own eager one. It was fun to speak with this new stranger, Siel, and he looked fun. If his approval of her potato throwing was anything to go by. She wanted to peek back and look at the woman who had tried to steal her seat, but if she did she just knew she would be the obvious culprit in the matter.

"So what brings you to the area other than free food?"

"I'm on my way to visit family in Zena." He took a big bite of something he thought had been potato based at first but turned out to be fish. While the mental disconnect gave him a momentary facial curl it quickly turned into a surprised 'hmph' and a nod.

"My older brother and his husband live there with their daughters. I make it a point to only visit when it's warm enough not to need sixteen layers of fur." He'd made that mistake once when he was younger and didn't have much of a head for travel. Never. Again. "Figured I could pick up a few jobs on my way there and if I'm lucky enough land something that pays well enough to get on an airship."

Zumei shoved a large handful of cheese into her mouth, nodding like she was considering his statement when really she was just trying to process her cheese hubris as she realized she had shoved to much into her mouth. She let out a quick cough as she finished, grinning back at Siel.

"I have a habit of wandering into harsh weather conditions unprepared," she laughed, motioning to her current attire. "Got stuck in the snow in Zena once. That was exciting. Luckily was taken care of, but that won't stop me from going where I want! Like here! Done a few odd jobs on the way, but really I just wanted to see what the area was like!"

"It's a wonder you've got any toes if you went to Zena like that." Even his papa, who was notorious for wearing sheer fabrics, wore decent pants when he visited. Siel couldn't imagine going too far into those mountains with exposed flesh. He was too much of a fair weather boy for that.

"Where's your favorite place that you've visited?" The question was a trap. Obviously it would get her talking, but hopefully it would keep her talking enough that he wouldn't need to answer. If that were the case then Siel could start work on this turkey leg without being disturbed.

Luckily for Siel, Zumei was pleased to talk to the new stranger. Though before she opened her mouth to respond to his question she couldn't help but stretch and casually launch another portion of food out into the crowd before returning innocently to her plate.

"Favorite place? well, Zena is pretty fun. I like the chilly weather even if I have an aversion to warmer clothing. Sauti is okay I guess, but you know, home. Here is okay too. But favorite place..." Zumei trailed off, shoving food into her mouth as she considered. "Well I've never been so I can't really call it a favorite, but I think Belrea would be if I went. All the smart people making super cool things. I have a....friend. He's from there and he's the most smart and wonderful person, so I think it would be my favorite place if I went."

Siel briefly looked over his shoulder to see where the food landed before quickly looking away when he saw it hit an older man's shoulder.

"-Terya, I told you to stop doing that!-"

"Papa I swear it wasn't me this time!"

"You should go." When Siel looked around the table for a drink, any drink after taking a bite of a dry roll and found nothing he looked around the crowd. Thankfully it looked like there were staff dispensing drinks and a quick wave got a stein of mead dropped off. He coughed a few times, guzzled down a drink and cleared his throat before speaking again.

"My fathers are there now with my younger siblings and my older sister lives near Zenner with her family. It's beyond wild." The cities were, anyway; a lot of the farmland his family had traveled through was akin to some of the areas here.

"Someday if you ever go with your friend I think you'll have a lot of fun. There's a lot of places to go with super amazing, wonderful, brilliant people."

Zumei grinned as she heard the voices behind them arguing, chuckling to herself as she considered what Siel had said. She moved her fork over her plate, trying to put words to the thoughts bouncing around in her somewhat empty head.

"I think you're right. I should go. At least to experience all the really cool things," Zumei nodded, tapping her chin and frowning when she felt food flick onto her face. Really smooth.

"But my friend is traveling with someone else, and I don't think he'll go. That's fine though! I don't need to go with anyone I can manage all on my own!" She spoke quickly in an attempt to hide her own insecurities, giving Siel a big thumbs up instead.

"Best case scenario you slip into another birthday feast and get another chance to practice your aim," Siel snickered. "Stick to the countryside for that; their not as friendly in the city." At least from what he'd experienced. Granted, that could have been because of his unique family and their propensity for stirring trouble wherever they went.

"Well, if you're anywhere near Sauti in the next couple of weeks you could always go with me. Rumor is that my sister is expecting again and I just know a visit from her favorite brother would be the greatest gift." As much as he could have honestly inhaled that buffet, Siel had to hold himself back and take in stages. He'd already had a 'few' glasses of mead so best not to tempt his luck and get sick.

Still...

"Did you see any sweets? I'm really hoping they have like at least pie or something."
