Magical potions are a bit of a risk in Tendaji, believe it or not. It might be because most are used to working with natural items, or that many potions don't always have their intended effects. Some of the more dubious ones have been rumored to cause scales to grow, or blindness. So if you pass by someone in a back alley saying they have a potion to help you grow two feet taller, it's often better to look the other way.
Or is it?
What would you find if you looked over at what they had to sell? Is it really all that strange? Or maybe you'll find a fun hidden gem worth taking home.

Irirangi was hopelessly lost. She was on the hunt for the academy, but the large buildings and bustling streets made it hard for her to find her way. Even though she was taller than most earthlings here, she still felt dwarfed in these foreign lands. Plus she kept getting distracted.
Maybe it was something featured in a shop, or the steam of the magical materials, or the construction of a new street. Everything required she pull out her notebook, sketch a simple diagram and take a scribble of notes. Every day she seemed to inch through the city, documenting all of the sights, scenes, and feelings. Maybe this would be her first book, a tale of a future city to pass around to those back home.

Aeuri was wandering about the area, curious to see if he could find anything new before they left for the next leg of their trip. He found himself wishing he could linger a bit longer, enjoy the sights and the people. Yet he knew he needed to go home, he had been gone too long. His sisters probably missed him, and he was sure his mother would demand his help.
He was homesick, but it was muted. The adventure and the thrill had resulted in him truely enjoying the world he had discovered. He was more sad to call it done.

Irirangi was more near the shopping center at this point, and she put her notebook away in her pack. Eventually she would need to get a new one, but today she was more curious to explore the unique wares of the area, and how they traded and operated.
Wandering about, she nearly missed the lean earthling that was wandering as well, before she noticed his sun-bleached hair and dark skin. He reminded her of the other dark-skinned earthling, but different, and his pink crystals caught her eye. He was unique, maybe from the sand nation she heard about on her travels? What was it...Orba?

Aeuri was very self-aware, and so when he passed the taller Kahkinan, he moved to the side a moment before laughing, "Sorry about that...miss?"
His eyes brushed over her skin, surprised at the markings before realizing she was from the water islands to the south. He hadn't had a chance to really meet any, and so his expression was curious.
"You're a..Kaha'iko? Did I pronounce it right?"

She looked down at him with a bright smile, nodding as her hair bounced, "You got it! You must have done your research, most people call me a Kahikinan...or fish person."
The last part was said with a bit of disdain, but her grin was still cheeky, "And you're...from Orba...no that's not right...Oba?"

Orba? He laughed a little at that, before nodding at her correction, "I'm just traveling about, but yeah I'm from Oba. With my family visiting and exploring Tendaji before we settle down-"
"Visitors huh?" A hushed voice spoke up, and Aeuri turned to look at a vendor who seemed to appear out of the shadows. The man had a basket with glowing bottles, and immediately Aeuri was suspicious, "I've got some nice wears if you're looking for a local potion or two. Maybe one that changes your eyes, or clears our skin...or just gives you good dreams."

Oooh, who was this person who suddenly appeared. Irirangi resisted the urge to take out her notebook for only a second, until he began to speak about the types reactions and her pen and paper was out before one could blink.
"I've never heard of such magic. You said you can change your eyes? What does that mean? Can I get eyes like the Lightning people, or dark like the Yaeli? Do you mind giving me a statement of all the types of potions you sell?"

The vendor seemed to step back at such eagerness, his face growing stern as he looked down at the notebook furiously being scribbled on.
"You're not from the Academy, are you?" He replied with narrowed eyes, and Aeuri stepped forward.
"We're just traveling. But...I've seen potions from around here...those aren't quite like the ones I've picked up..." He remembered his visit to the apothecary, and none spoke of eye colors, "Do you even know which does which?"

She turned and began to write more down from what Aeuri asked, nodding and focused at the comments, before turning back and leaning forward "Can you guarantee my dreams will be peaceful? What if they are already peaceful?"
The man before them still looked uncertain, before letting out a sigh and grabbing one of the potions and showing them the label, "I wouldn't be foolish enough to sell any old potions, though the randomness is part of the fun. I do have a mystery flavor if you'd like?"
"Oooo...I do like mysteries..." She leaned forward even more, eyes narrowed as she watched the bubbles.

Aeuri was used to impulsive siblings, so when Irirangi began to ask questions and seriously consider taking a potion, he glanced over with concern. Surely not everyone in this world was so willing to throw things away for a good time.
Glancing back toward the man, he pursed his lips before shaking his head, "Look, maybe this isn't a great idea..."
The sharp look he got from the vendor was ice cold, but he quickly schooled his own featured and glared back. Good practice meant a quick response.

She pouted at the boy in front of her, before raising her chin and nodding once, "If I want to be a writer, I must try things and write about the experience. I'll take this one."
Dropping her coin in the merchant's hand, she popped the bottle open and drank it, not noticing the merchant pocket the coin before moving away.
"Hmmm, tastes like root...ack." She replied, sticking out her tongue.

He raised his hands but it was too late, she had already taken the potion. Distracted, he didn't notice the vendor had left until it was too late, and cursed at the man before looking back at the Kahikinan.
"Are you feeling alright?" He asked slowly, watching her reaction before letting out a started laugh, "Your tongue...was it always purple?"

She didn't feel weird, and expressed as much with a shrug before her eyes widened. Purple? He tongue was normally normal colored, and she crossed her eyes to try and see.
"I hope that isn't permanent" She said with her tongue still out, before laughing and taking more notes.
"Well that's something unexpected! You should have tried one...but oh he seems to be gone..."

He looked at her hopelessly, before laughing as well.
"I think I'm alright. Let me take you to a local apothecary I found. I'm sure she can figure out what you took and if you need to take anything else."
With that, he nodded, hoping to lead her away and hoping that this was nothing more than a small prank. What an interesting day yet again.
