Tendaji may not be bustling like the cities of ages past, but that doesn't mean someone can live their life without encountering someone else who is a bit...different. What is the story of you meeting a person who is going in the opposite direction. Maybe they are traveling and you meet in a cross roads, or maybe they are settling down to start a family while you're getting ready to leave. Or possibly it's someone with such a different personality it's like oil and water. This is your chance to tell us that story and what happens when you cross paths.
[ This prompt is all about crossing paths - briefly and of characters who wouldn't normally find themselves interacting with each other. Explore what happens when two people who are going in opposite directions (figuratively or literally) find themselves briefly encountering one another. We would like to see strangers meet on this one, so take some time to bring your characters out of their comfort zones. ]

Kayde 1 Kayde had been running on pure happiness for the past few days. The weight in his pocket, and shoulders, was gone, slipping upon the soft blue skin of his now fiancée. The silver used to make the ring had come from the first little chunk of silver ore he had found randomly in the forests of Jauhar so very, very many years ago when he was working to win back her affections. It felt like a lifetime ago, now. Like a different person. He had sold that silver, than somehow it had made it back to him. He couldn't remember how the conversation had turned towards the origin of the silver ring he had been looking at. When he learned it was the same piece he had given to Chiro to sell for him, he knew it was a sign from the Gods that what he had been debating in his head was right. That he did, in fact, want to spend the rest of his life with Elka and wished to ask her to marry him. He had kept that ring a secret for much of their life together, waiting for the perfect moment to bring it out. Jauhar wasn't the right backdrop. Not when they had no real home for themselves. The time had to be in Matori. Now, days after finally releasing that secret, the Leaf was walking down the shoreline, listening to the seabirds calling above him and the white flecked waves trying to reach him. There seemed to be a figure down there, knee deep in the water, looking down at the clear ocean lapping around his thighs. "Hello! Great day, isn't it!"

Minke 1 For Minke, being on the beach was a daily occurrence. When he had nothing else to do, like helping his father with their tiny garden, he was here, walking along the sands or swimming in the water. He could easily spend all day here if left to himself. His box of seashells at home was slowly becoming a problem as a result of it. But he just couldn't bare to part with any. Not unless he found some tiny homeless crustacean who could use one. Than he would gladly give it up. Today, he was wading in the water, his pants rolled up to his mid-thighs. His shirt, always opened down the front to allow for the cool breeze to blow on his skin and avoid overheating, was in danger of falling off his shoulders as he bent down towards the water, watching the colorful fish that darted between his feet. He was completely unaware of anyone else being on the beach with him. He was usually alone. So when a shout came from behind him, the hybrid was so startled that he lost his balance and went crashing down into the water, face first. He flipped himself over quickly, sitting down on the bottom of the ocean with his head sticking out, taking big gulps of air, the sea water stinging his nose and throat.

Kayde 2 It should have occured to Kayde that yelling at someone's back while they were so clearly focused on something at their feet would result in a surprise. He had been so focused on his good fortune that he hadn't noticed. He felt awful. "Hey! You okay?" he yelled, rushing over to the edge of the water where a pale head was visible over the surface of the water.

Minke 2 The waves broke over Minke's head, threatening to take him down once more if he didn't stand back up. Ducking his head under the water, he crawled a little forward where it was more shallow and easier to balance himself against the push of the ocean. He stood, running a hand over his face and hair, shaking his head. It was than he realized the person who had called him before was speaking once more. And also was closer. He stood there awkwardly in the water, his shirt clinging to his arms at the elbows, hair dripping salt water down his back and face. "Y-yeah," he answered quietly, looking anywhere but at the Leaf who stood staring at him. Why was he still staring? He wished he'd stop staring.

Kayde 3 Hand halfway down to pulling off his boots and wading in after the younger man, Kayde was grateful to see him standing up without aid after the abrupt dunking he had just received. The Leaf breathed a sigh of relief. Good. He hadn't injured someone on his first month in a new place. Though he couldn't quite hear the words over the crash of the waves and the birds overhead, he gathered what had been said by the movement of the youth's lips. With his upper torso almost completely exposed, the markings combined with the line of pink crystals just under his collar bone betrayed his mixed heritage. So not a native to Matori, either, possibly? Kayde had seen pink crystals before in Neued, on the tribe people who came from Sauti. But the pale, greenish hair and eyes were lost on him. As were the markings. "Sorry about startling you. My name is Kayde. I just moved here from Jauhar last week." Looking around him, he spread his arms wide in a stretch. "Lovely scenery here."

Minke 3 "Y-yeah," Minke repeated, still looking anywhere than at the older man. He stood there with his arms folded at his waist, feeling the sun start to dry his skin. He was frozen too stiff to even pull his shirt back up over his shoulders. Not that he had ever been shy about going around shirtless around people, no matter how large the crowd was. No, his problem was when they decided to talk to him, try to get a conversation going like this Leaf was. He didn't know what to say. He didn't really want to talk. He wished this Kayde person would take a hint and leave him alone so he could return to watching the fish. After he found their small school, again. What was a Leaf doing here, anyway? Was he a rich guy on vacation? There were so many who came here for a vacation. Not that he didn't understand why. It was beautiful here, with warm oceans to swim in all day and a sun to air dry under. He himself had lived here for half of his current life. He still felt lucky to be in such a paradise. Oh, right. He said he had moved here from Jauhar. Where was that, again? Minke rubbed at his arms in anxiety, his cheeks starting to go red from embarrassment at the extended silence.

Kayde 4 Kayde stood awkwardly in the silence, blinking in confusion. Guy wasn't much of a talker. He got that. Not everyone was. "Do you live around here?" the Leaf offered, wondering if they were perhaps distance neighbors. His own house could still be seen in the distance, a tiny dot beside a single tree. Elka had been inside reading when he had declared he wished to take a walk, picking the one direction they weren't familiar with.

Minke 4 No, he wasn't taking the hint. But than he guessed he wasn't giving much of one. Minke never could do more than just look awkward and hope people talking to him went away. He felt so bad telling someone no or to leave him alone. It was rude. It was better to suffer a conversation with someone than to be rude. With a shaky hand, the hybrid boy raised an arm to point down the beach, in the direction the Leaf had been walking. A house stood out easily, close enough for them to see the tiny moving dot of his father working in his garden.

Kayde 5 Kayde followed the young man's finger, seeing the house easily against the clear sky. The figure in the distance he assumed to be one of his parents, for he looked far too young to be living on his own. But one never could judge based off just one sight. For all he knew, the person could be a friend or another kind of relative. Or maybe even a lover. They all were a possibility. Not that it was any of his business. The Leaf turned back, offering as friendly a smile as he could in an attempt to calm the clearly nervous hybrid. "Do you have a name?" he asked gently, stretching out a hand as he spoke, like a peace offering. They were far too apart to shake hands, not that Kayde suspected they would even be doing that if they were close. "I'd like to know what to call you in the future if we meet, again. We are neighbors, see?" He used the offered hand to point back where he'd come to the tiny house in the distance.

Minke 5 Minke dropped his hand, using it to hug his arms close to his chest. He picked at the loose shirt hanging on his elbows and curled his toes into the sand under the water, wishing he could just sink under it like some crustaceans he had seen do. "M-M-Minke," he managed, the flush on his cheeks deepening as he messed up his name. "My n-name is Minke."He looked back towards the tiny dot it the distance. That house had stood empty for a year and the occupants before that hadn't come this far down the beach. That must mean he should be sure to see the Leaf more in the future. The hybrid exhaled fast. Great. Now there'd forever be the fear of being found and forced into a conversation hanging over his shoulders when he tried to enjoy the ocean or beach. Maybe he should start exclusively going the other way to avoid it.

Kayde 6 "Ah. It's nice to meet you, Minke." Kayde's grin grew, his good mood only growing as it always did when he successfully met a new person. He didn't mind how one-sided the conversation was. Some people had more problems than others connecting with someone else. It only made him want to try harder to give them a good first impression. He didn't mind one-sided conversations. There was plenty on his mind to say for the both of them. And he truly did want to get to know his neighbors. The ones he had back in Neued weren't the most friendly, often shoving him out of the way to go about their day, even when he only greeted them in the morning. At least Minke wasn't trying to run away from him. As much as Kayde could tell that was exactly what he wished to do. "Thank you for tolerating me, Minke. I hope we can be good neighbors in the future." The Leaf inclined his head politely, giving a small bow of respect.

Minke 6 Neighbors? Oh. Yes. He knew that already. Had been shown the house just minutes before. The longer this went on, the harder Minke was finding it to concentrate on what was being said. The only thing going through his head were all the potential meetings he would have with this man in the future. He hoped there weren't more people at the house to bother him. The Leaf hadn't mentioned anyone else, anyway. But, despite his desire for Kayde to leave him alone, now and for the rest of his days, the hybrid didn't want to be rude and so nodded his head. He wished his sister wasn't so far away right now, visiting their uncle in Belrea. She'd be able to cover for his own quiet awkwardness and talk to anyone they met. Wait, tolerating him? Oh, no, was he aware of how uncomfortable Minke was? That made him feel worse. "Sorry!" he said quickly, pulling his shirt up as his voice seemed to shatter the silence. Up went the hood attached to the back, the water now dripping down over his face. He didn't care. It already made him feel a bit concealed from sight, even if he knew his face was still in full view. The hood wasn't that large. "I mean...S-Sorry for any rudeness!"

Kayde 7 The Leaf was taken aback by the sudden loudness of the hybrid's voice. For a moment, the smile slipped in his confusion, but it was soon back, occupied by a waving of his hands in front of his body. "No. It's my fault for bothering you." He ran one hand through his hair, feeling it flip back into place as soon as he let go. "I apologize. I will stop bothering you and return back home." Giving a short wave, Kayde turned back towards his new home and walked back slowly, hands in his pockets and pale eyes once more going back to appreciating the world around him. He was finding he really loved all the open space Matori had compared to the sometimes suffocating forest of Jauhar, where one could barely see the sky. Here it was clear, barely a cloud in sight, the sun beaming on his face. He would have a good life here. He could tell.

Minke 7 Minke worried at his lower lip, still feeling awful for his rude behavior. It didn't matter that the Leaf didn't seem to mind at all. Deep down, he could be bothered but hiding it behind a smile. Some people did that. Than went behind your back and said the most cruel of things. It was something he had experienced before. It was what made him so uncapable of socializing with anyone. His sister, she seemed to thrive on it. Minke just wanted to be left alone all the time. He raised his own hand to wave, feeling too many different emotions to say anything in response to the apology. As soon as Kayde was far enough away, he let out a long breath, than sat down in the water facing the deeper ocean, feeling the waves crashing against his chest, slowly washing away all his anxiety as he concentrated on listening to the water.
