Maybe she should've picked her friend up?
It's not like the park was far from her home.
”To Bestie”
Bestie where are you? It's been almost 30 minutes! D8
Sahara came barreling around the corner into the skatepark feeling her phone buzz in her pocket. She couldn't respond right now, but she was sure it was Annie. She was currently late to meet up with her, but she couldn't resist browsing the bookstore to see if the book she was looking for was in shock. If there was one thing her and her brother could agree on it was a trip to the book store.
She spotted Annie's car as she rode by and scanned the area for her friend, spotting hair twin haired bestie easily enough.
"Sorry I'm late," she called out before skating over to her friend, "Everest stopped at the bookstore."
Annie sighed and shook her head, books….She wasn't stupid, but she was also not a reader….Unless it was for homework or something. “You and those damned books Hara~” she moved off of the bench she was sitting on, “Soooooooooooo How are you going to teach me how to skate?” She was a bit excited since this was something she always wanted to try. Uni life was so boring without all her highschool friends. Sahara was one of the only friends that she bothered to text now anyway so that might factor into it. “Where IS your bother? He didn't want to come with you?” She was a bit sad about that but it only meant that they couldn't poke fun at the guy for a day.
Poking at Everest was the highlight of her day, and no it had nothing to do with the small crush she had…Nope.
Sahara rolled her eyes, “are you judging me Annnniiiieeee.”
She raised a brow at her friend even though she knew Annie was one person who wasn't the least bit intimidated by her. Still Sahara was who she was, slightly confrontational.
Judging? Annie laughed.
"You know that I've already brought you to court before the jury AND judged you before I saw you rolling down the sidewalk~" the laughter continued, Annie knew Hara wouldn't be offended in the slightest. "Annnyyyywwwayyyys…..What am I learning first?" She already asked once, but perhaps her bestie just wanted to surprise her?
“You're an a**, you know that right.” She rolled her eyes and hopped off of her board and stepped on the end with enough force to pop it up and catch it.
“Annie I’m sure you know the first lesson for all the things that put you in motion is how not to bust your a**. Let’s work on staying upright on the board and moving around. Get that down and we will move on.”
“Alright so first things first, stance and balance. You have to know where to put your feet so you can stay on the board and control it. Lose your balance, fall on your a**.” She pulled out a piece of chalk and marked her own board. “You want your feet typically here and here.”
“Oh I'm plenty aware that I am an a**, thank you for noticing bestie~”
Annie winked playfully, studying the board critically. She knew she could do this [she could do anything really but that was beside the point], she just had to do it carefully….She didn't want to look like a fool and fall on her a** in front of Sahara. She would never hear the end of it and that would only serve to piss her off in the long run. Following where the chalk marks were, Annie nodded while following instructions. Okay….She could do this.
That wasn't her unfathomable confidence wavering was it?
Nah….
A skateboard was not going to be her downfall.
“Alight, lemme try.”
Sahara chuckled and grabbed Annie's board and marked it just the same as hers. "Alright, go on and try. You're just balancing right now, after you feel like you get the weight distribution we will try the basic kick push to get you moving.”
Sahara stood and stepped onto her board putting her feet in position and standing on the board like it was nothing, because to her it really wasn’t. She had years of experience with skateboarding at this point.
“Oh before I forget, would you be willing to help me learn how to drive. I one hundred percent dont want to be the slow driver my brother is. Of course my parents are teaching me, but they are focusing on the rules of the road at the moment.”
Annie stared at her board for a good minute, tentatively placing her feet on the marks that Sahara made. The wobble was felt and she tried balancing herself, struggling a little bit. As long as she didn't fall, she would be fine. “Huh?” Annie blinked, “It seems strange for your brother to be a slow driver….But Alright I can work on teaching you, it’ll have to be after classes though. Oh yeah! I saw your older sister earlier too~ She says hello.” Blue eyes narrowed as she tried to focus heavily on keeping balanced. Once there was no shaking, she shifted the board back and forth. “Yesssss! Bestie loook!”
“It's not strange Annie, Ever is always pretty cautious … it's how his a** never gets caught unaware.” She chuckled and grinned though happy her friend decided to teach her. She was officially old enough to get her license anyway so he couldn’t wait. She was definitely going to rub it in Everest’s face.
“Good so now that you’ve… Annie don’t do that, one shift too much and you're going to bust your a**.”
She turned and motioned for Annie to watch, “now once you’ve got balance down, we have to work on the kick push.” She demonstrated, getting the board to move, kicking and pushing with her right foot to get her moving.
“Now you try.”
Huh? Oh..
Annie immediately stopped her back and forth movement, almost falling the instant that she tried not to move. Eyeballing her friend, the nervousness started to settle in again. Nope! She could do this! Damn it she was Annie Battle! She could and can do anything! “Alright~” Pausing to get down balancing on one leg, Annie started to attempt her first kick push, wobbling but quickly recovering, beginning her next kick. “Oh sweet!” Next thing she knew she was going faster and faster with her kicks. Problem with going fast was the fact that she didn't know how to break.
“Saharaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!” was the only thing the red head managed to say before she tucked and fell off of the board, landing on her behind. “Got damn it!” She fell, which was the one thing she was trying not to ******** great!
Sahara was glad Annie stopped with the rocking, she’d seen enough newbie’s fall because of that. She gave her the thumbs up as she tried the kick push and …, “not so hard and not so many. What…”
Sahara frowned as Annie pretty much jumped off the board. She didn't think she was going to freak out like that. Its not as if it was particularly hard to stop and why fall like that. She sighed. “Annie, that was terrible … you know that right?”
“You just have to put your foot down to stop Annie or your the tail of your board. Here, come on get up. I’ll show you … should have shown you before you took off.”
Sahara took off again slowly, pivoted and put her foot down to stop.
Well if she were being honest, it was her fault for taking off before waiting for proper instruction.
Annies face was burning, turning a shade of red that almost matched her hair, “O-Oh…..” before hopping on she watched her bestfriend for a little bit, trying again after a couple of minutes. This was a much better trial than before, and Annie was cruising with glee. “Oh wow!” She was able to stop and start, still a bit wobbly but getting there. Eventually she would be on her way doing tricks!
Sahara watched Annie get the hang of it, skating and stopping, skating and stopping. It made her think back to when Ever got the skateboard in the first place and she stole it. It took time to learn, but she worked at it and she grew to really love skateboarding. “That’s better though your balance is still not where it needs to be.”
She skated over to her best friend stopping in front of her, “now we can work on turning next, but since your balance isnt so good, you might fall a few times. I’ll show you and then you can try.”
She pushed off, “so your feet are in positions, put pressure with your toes to turn right and put pressure with you heel to go left. It's sort of like rocking the board.”
She demonstrated, going in a S back and forth in front of her friend.
Great, turning…
Annie frowned, but nodded, “Alright. Heel is left, Toes are right……Got it.” She kick started herself and practiced making slow turns, almost losing her balance once. After that, she felt like she was getting the hang of it, barely….But it was progress. Although, she reaaaaallly wanted to try and teach Sahara something for driving before it got too dark. She didn't have a race going on, but it was generally good practice to be home at a certain time so she could fool her mother into thinking she was asleep when she was really out on patrol. “Are you ready to go driving?”
Sahara watches as Annie practiced turning, realizing her friend was going to need a lot more practice. She was honestly expecting that, so it wasn’t really a surprise. Some people took to skateboarding as easy as breathing. Sahara was one of those people, but Annie wasn’t. She smiled happily that her friend was willing to give it the old college try and then grinned excitedly when Annie seemed ready to call it quits in favor of teaching Sahara how to drive. It’s not like she hasn't learned the basics, her parents were teaching her, but she wanted the exciting thrilling experience of driving, but her parents definitely weren’t going for that.
“Yes, let’s do it.”
