It was cold. His breath fogged the air as he ran, he was dressed more for running than for the weather or at least that's how it appeared. Pat wasn’t about to mess with hypothermia, even though it wasn’t that horribly cold out, but that also didn’t mean that he was going to wear so many layers he was going to overheat. That would be just as counterproductive then if he wore his normal running gear. That's why he ignored the looks of others who were in the park that he caught looking. As if they've never seen a redhead run, let alone in the cold.
He would have rolled his eyes in absent amusement but he would much rather focus on his own path, his own footfalls as he continued on his way past one of the only large ‘grassy’ areas of the park. Or it would be grassy in the summer, right now it was mostly dead grass and dirt, but there were still people out there playing. Out of the corner of his eye he saw some playing catch, ball and frisbee, and kicking around a soccer ball. There was even a person playing with a drone. He would have ignored them all if a rouge ball hadn’t come out of nowhere and nearly tripped him up. It would have too if he hadn’t made a split second decision to dodge it. With his run interrupted he stopped the ball and glanced around, wondering who owned the errant black and white ball.

It was the weekend so the guys decided to play soccer in the park early. It was more Cass and Eli’s things, but they all enjoyed a bit of friendly competition. Cass was the first there and he was waiting for everyone else to show up. It was hard when they all had toddlers to look after, so getting out of the house could be difficult. He expected Eli to be the first to show up, as Colin was by far the easiest of all the kids, aside from Nolan and Rowan.
He was bouncing the ball on his knees moving around and trying to keep the ball in the air, until he nearly stepped in dog s**t and lost the ball. He frowned as the ball rolled off headed for a jogger.
“Hey! Watch out, don’t trip.”

Pat was fast enough on his feet that the incoming ball didn’t do more than make him slow his ‘role’, just change it. He got the ball stopped and quickly found where the warning shout came from. “Lose something?” He asked as he picked the ball up. He would have just tossed it back his way but wanted to make sure that the person who called out was actually the owner of the ball. Pat casually made his way closer, absently frowning slightly as he realized the other male looked familiar. He seemed like someone the redhead had met before, or at least saw in passing. He just didn’t know from where, or when. It was like that sometimes, between being an EMT and all his extra curricular things he met a lot of people.
“Have we met before?” He asked once he got closer. The desire to know if he was just imagining things had him asking. It was really bugging him.

Cass was glad the other guy didn't bust his a** from the run away ball. “Yeah, its mine, sorry almost steps in dog poop and fumbled trying to avoid it.”
He put his hands out to receive the ball, but paused, raising a brow and really giving the man a good look. After a moment he shrugged, “I know a lot of redheads, literally half the family and I’ve been to several weddings in the past few years.”
He thought about it trying to remember where he’d seen this guy before. “I’ve definitely seen you more than once, it probably was a wedding … with that red hair I’d say Bolotnikov or Jacobs. Those two names ring a bell. I’ve been to all the wedding for both families so if you know them, that’s where we met.”
“Im Cass, actually the guys should be here to play soccer soon.”

Pat happily passed the ball over before breaking out in a smile, “Ahhh yes. That's where I saw you! The Jacobs’ weddings by the way, primarily that is.” He added while presenting his hand for a shake, “Pat O’Ryan. Related to the Jacob’s through my mom. As a cousin I ended up going to all the major family events the last few years. You just looked seriously familiar but between my job and all the family stuff I wasn’t sure if I was just imagining it.” He shrugged, giving a lame excuse for the rather intrusive question he had asked.
“Oh, sorry about the interruption then! Though I guess it would be the other way around since your ball interrupted my run,” he joked with an absent nod towards the soccer ball. “I would also suggest keeping an eye out for more little ‘presents’ from dogs because I’ve seen lots of owners around here that don’t follow the rule of picking up after their pets. It sucks, that's for sure.” He had found that out the hard way once or twice when he chose to run in this park.

Cass nodded, “yes all the weddings happened so quickly. You’ve probably seen me at some of the birthday parties too if you come. Though it’s hard to keep up with anyone when all the kids are running around. My wife is Lily’s best friend, Mercy. You’re not imagining it. I promise.”
He chuckled, “yeah people really should pick up after their dogs in a public park, but at least I didn't step in it and you didn't get hit by the ball. Didn’t mean to interrupt you, but hey why don’t you join us for a game. You're running for exercise, still running, but maybe have a little more fun.”
He looked up hearing his voice, “There’s Eli now.”
He turned, “Hey Eli, I ran into Xander’s cousin.” He chuckled at Eli’s stoic expression, as if doesn't care.
He looked at Patrick, “you up for it?”

Pat laughed, “I swear there are more and more kids every time I go over.” He loved his family, he really did but sometimes he wondered what was in the water to make them all reproduce that way. Hell, even his ‘niece’ just had her first child. Dessie was more like his cousin once removed but niece seemed more accurate considering how close he was to the family. The infant was adorable, that was for sure, but it still made his point. The Jacob’s had no idea what ‘birth control’ was for, at least that's what Pat liked to tease Xander about every time Pat heard about another little one arriving.
“Sure, I’m not very good at it but I think I’ll at least be able to keep up.” He had been out running less for exercise and more to get out of his own head so a game of soccer would work just as well. “Just the three of us or are we getting a full team game going?” His question was asked as he nodded to Eli, purple eyes not spotting anyone else arriving but that didn’t mean more were not going to show up in a few minutes.

“Yes, but with 6 couples are you really surprised. We don’t even all have that many kids, it's just most of us have at least 2.” He chuckled, they definitely couldn't keep their hands off of each other though. He wasn't surprised they kept having babies. He was glad Mercy was on birth control, though it had not exactly kept her from getting pregnant with their first.
“Its cool, you dont have to be any good. Xander is pretty bad, though he’s getting better. You cant be any worse.” He was about to answer Patricks question when Damien showed up, followed by Xander. He waved them over. “We’re just waiting on Dmitry, Ryan, and Yatora now. We can get a good game going today I think.”

“Hey grandpa!” Pat grinned at Xander as the rest of the family trickled in, at least the male side of things. “Guess it's a good thing that I almost got taken out by the ball of yours,” he teased Cass as he greeted Damien. Running helped clear his mind but playing soccer with his family, that would be alot more fun. “It should be amusing at least.” Who would have guessed the desire to go running would have ended up with him serendipitously running into Cass, and by extension his family? Pure luck, thats for sure.
