Sahara was technically still injured, but nothing could keep the girl from the skatepark now. She was hurting less and she didn't think she was going to rip the stitches anymore. She made sure she was bandaged up properly and headed to the skatepark.

Her brother had looked at her like she had grown a second head having found out that she’d been injured. He had however told her if she wanted to be stupid that was on her. She nearly punched him, but she knew at would land her unable to go to the skatepark. She simply rolled her eyes got her mom to take her to the skatepark.

She wasn’t doing anything too strenuous, instead practicing a few easy tricks and impressing the little kids.

Dawn was going on like high tess or whatever expensive gas was called but even she knew that she needed some time to just… be. Well really her boss at her part time job took one look at Dawn and sent her home. Apparently looking like a raccoon that hadn’t slept in a decade just wasn’t a good look. She probably should have argued but honestly she had homework she needed to get done, besides it was a nice day out, even if it was chilly. It was still winter afterall.

So with classwork done, no job to go to, no volunteer work to do, Dawn was at loose ends. So what did she do? She snagged her rollerblades and pads and, after a longer ride than it should have by bus, ended up at the closest skatepark to her sad little apartment. The petite woman sat down on one of the benches to quickly kit herself out, blue eyes taking in the crowd at the park. Mostly kids. Littles watching a young girl doing some easy skateboard tricks, a few older kids messing about in the bowel, and the parents milling about on the edges chatting with each other or playing on their phones. AKA, a typical Saturday afternoon. Pads on, blades on, helmet on. Dawn was ready. She pushed off from the bench and started to just warm up. No point in getting fancy until she was ready.

Sahara quickly got bored of showing off for the kiddies and bid them goodbye before skating off. She skirted past a girl on rollerblades not paying much mind, but glad she just narrowly avoided running into the girl as she headed for the bowl. She couldnt do anything on the pike and didn't even want to try climbing it if she was honest. A good fall might turn bloody. The bowl was a better choice.

She waved an apology wave at the girl before dipping into the bowl and getting her skate on. She felt so free, if not looking a bit out of place because despite being a skateboarder, she was bundled up in a skirt with some tights, legwarmers and cute boots. She had on a peacoat and a beret and looked like she should be taking a carriage right or something.

Quote:
“Careful,” Dawn said loudly as the girl who had been showing off to the little ones passed a bit too close to Dawn. The older woman wasn’t overly concerned they would collide but the girl’s outfit was just too chic to mess up with a fall. Definitely not worth getting dirty. She really didn’t look like your typical skater girl at least. Granted Dawn didn’t look as competent as she was either since she was wearing all her pads; knees, elbows, wrist, and helmet, so things were likely just as odd looking for her in her jeans and fluffy winter sweater that featured a silly reindeer face on it. It was warm, and cheap, it didn’t have to be pretty. It just would have been nice had it been.

She was doing a few low grinds when the wind picked up. It whipped her hair across her face , blinding her just enough that Dawn came to a stop to keep from coming to grief on her skates. It took her a bit to tie her hair back into a secure bun and just as she was about to start messing around again a flash of color had her glancing up. A hat came tumbling passed her across the ground, well more like it was just trying to escape the park all together. Thinking fast, Dawn chased the piece of clothing down and scooped it up, recognizing the lump of cloth as a beret. Like the beret the skater girl was wearing earlier.

Sahara was enjoying herself even skating standing straight up with her arms wide open. It had been to long in her opinion and she was just basking in the feeling. She didn't wind to much even when it plucked her hat off her head. It was another skater who mentioned to her it had blown away.

She frowned because she generally never forgot to pin her hats in place if she decided to wear one. She skated off to go find the missing hat, even though she wasn’t terribly worried. She could buy another. She was 16, it wasn't like she had better things to spend her money on. The money she didn't sat aside to save.

It didn't take long to notice the girl she nearly bumped into had her hat, “hey you found my hat, she called out?”

Quote:
Dawn was absently looking around when someone called out to her, it was the girl from earlier. “Oh yes! Here you go.” She skated over and passed the beret over, absently circling the younger woman. It wasn’t terribly fun to just stand there while on skates afterall. She also really didn’t like just standing there, it was too easy for her to slip and fall that way. “It was trying to escape but I caught it. Hope it isn’t damaged or anything. I’m Dawn by the way and I love your outfit!” She came to a stop after a tight spin and stuck her hand out in introduction.

Quote:
“Thank you, I honestly thought I pinned it down, but I guess I didn't.” She finished in her pocket and pulled out two bobby pins to pin the hat to her braids. She straightened up, “it’s not damaged and it's okay, I've had the hat for a while. Thank you though, I found this skirt on offer up and it goes really well with these boots.”

She balanced on her board, “I’m Sahara, are you new around here. I haven’t seen you before.” Not only that, she didn't often see people with so much padding that weren’t kids … better safe than sorry, but the pads messed her esthetic, so she never really wore them.

She smirked doing a little trick while talking, use to being active and staying in motion when she had her board. She held her hand out to shake Dawn's hand while balancing on the side of her board.

“No worries at all!” Dawn said even as something the younger girl said caught her attention. “Offer up? What's that?” It sounded like a store but what kind of store was named like that? Like Sahara, the strawberry blonde found standing still while on skates hard, so she was shifting ever so slightly, sliding back and forth. Standing completely still in rollerblades requires more balance than she really felt like using at that moment.

“Oh I try to come here whenever I get a chance, it just isn’t as often lately anymore. Most of my free time is taken up by work or other things so it's pretty rare when I get to go out skating. It also depends on the weather.” She wasn’t so sure about Sahara but skating in wet and gross weather was not Dawn’s idea of fun. She would rather enjoy the sense of freedom that flying across the park gave her than shivering or watching out for puddles that she could wipe out in. “That's cool! Are you able to do a kickflip?” Dawn asked as she kicked off from her relatively stationary spot to slowly circle around the space. “What's your favorite trick if you dont mind me asking?”

Quote:
“Oh it's just an online second hand selling app. People offer up things they don’t want anymore for sale. There are resellers on there though as well who buy things on sale or wholesale and upcharge for them. Mostly it's great though. You can get some nice things.” Of course she went to malls, online shopped the brands, but she also thrifted. Sahara didn't care as long as the clothes were cute.

“Oh, yeah I dont think I’d make it more than a week without being able to skate. I come as often as I can, but I don’t have a job so I have free time after school and on the weekends.”

Sahara nodded at the question about the kickflip and quickly showed Dawn a quick demonstration. “Um … I think my favorite trick at the moment is the 360 flip at the moment … I strained myself last week though so that's off limits for a bit, but I like the gazelle spin as well.”

She showed off the spin before looking at Dawn, “what about you then, any tricks, you like?”

Quote:
“Oh! I’ll definitely have to check it out then!” She was always looking for ways to keep to her tight budget so finding new ways to save money, or even earn some with some of her older clothes, was helpful. “If I had more time I would be out here a lot more often that's for sure,” She agreed with Sahara on that one.

Blue eyes watched as the younger girl performed her trick perfectly. It took skill and timing, that's for sure. “Hmmmm, I can’t say as I have a real favorite but I always get a kick out of doing spins sometimes.” It was pretty childish really but it made her feel like she was an Olympic skater when she pulled off particularly tight spins. After a moment to get the right moment she turned into a tight spin, her arms crossed over her chest, before she extended herself once more to slow down until she was standing still once more. “It's a bit easier to pull that off on ice but it's just as fun on skates, and warmer too.

Quote:
“Yeah, it's pretty nice,” she said, “I found some really nice necklaces too.”

She watched as Dawn did a trick she mostly had only ever seen done on the ice and then admitting it was easier on ice, still it seemed well down to Sahara. “Looked good to me. Does that mean you ice skate as well?”

She stepped onto her board and motioned for Dawn to follow, she didn't want to be her and also not be skating. “We can talk and skate. Skating is what we are here to do after all.”

Quote:
“Yup! I just love the feeling of flying across the ice. It's like I’m a bird!” Dawn spread her arms wide and just absently skated this way and that. “A clear rink or park is the best because you can just go, and not have to worry about others.” She came to a short stop when the younger girl motioned for her to follow. “Sure! Do you know any grinding tricks?” The bubbly young woman asked as she joined the other female. It was always fun meeting new people who liked to skate just as much as she did.

Getting the day off work wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
