What he was given felt like an assignment as thrilling as it was intensive. Complicated. Important. He would learn a lot about a lot of members of the other side quickly if he did what he was told correctly, more than reading could teach him if he could contribute to the very reading material.
Of course, he was also looking to take care of other assignments.
Faustite had told all of them that they need to collect more quota. He told them that they needed to double their quota, perhaps even triple it. (He hadn't necessarily said the last part, but Borax was always one to go harder than he needed to.)
Easy enough.
He was bent like a pretzel over a civilian younger than him, probably barely an adult. A pity, truly. Her starseed glittered just like the rest, catching the shine of the moon as he twirled it between his fingers.
It was an easy addition to the one he had already tucked away in subspace.

The Chaos aura wasn't particularly strong, but Cybele was well aware that agents did not have to have climbed their way up the ranks in order to be nasty and dangerous. She was glad that she was able to feel even the basic auras from farther away. She was also glad that she was getting steadier on her feet again. Her gait might have been slightly off compared to what it had once been, but it was a minor thing now. The prosthetic toes that she'd been fitted with helped some, as did practice. Running was no longer an issue, as long as she didn't run for too long, and when she felt the aura, she ran towards it. It was good that she was as fast as she was, too, because when she found the Lieutenant, in his exotic outfit, he was pulling the starseed from someone's chest. She understood quotas better than he might have known, but that didn't mean she had sympathy for it. This was life or death. She did not hesitate. "Prey's Agony," she called out, and then she was firing a bolt of energy straight at the man's chest. "Put it back," she snapped. Seiana_ZI Eternal Sailor Attack: Prey's Agony Cybele calls the name of her attack and an intricate ethereal bow forms in her hands, with a single arrow on the string. She can fire it at one target. The ethereal arrow gives the sensation of being hit with a real arrow. It hurts. On top of that, on a hit, the target will feel the sensation of strikes from secondary arrows, and being ripped at by the teeth of hounds. The magic lasts 45 seconds but can leave lasting damage at player discretion. Cybele can use this attack once per battle.

******** she was fast. That was the only thing that had time to make it to the surface as she called her attack--Prey's Agony, he made note of that--and shot him. Literally shot him. It wasn't a gunshot, but it felt equally as deadly, and he hissed between his teeth as it struck him there and struck him elsewhere, too. It was hard to think between the pain, and his mind was firing white hot signals and he tore at his mind to fight it. He needed to count. Needed to count. Every second felt like a thousand. Ten. "Why should I?" he hissed back through grit teeth. He swore his leg was being bit at. He wanted to scream, and the edges of that made it through his words. "Should I," ow, ow, ow, "listen to someone trying to murder me?" Twenty-five. Twenty-five. Twenty-five -- no, thirty -- his chest felt like a lance was booring into it --

A direct hit. Good. Cybele saw him tense up from the pain of it. She saw the way his eyes went wide at the shot, the way he started to sweat and squirm afterwards. She saw how he tried to stand his ground anyway. That was stupid. It he'd tried running straight away, there was a better chance that he would have gotten away with it. As it was, she bolted forwards. For thirty seconds or so, he'd be in agony. That meant she had just a moment where his focus was off. She dashed in, and her hand closed around his wrist. She was not gentle. Her grip was tight enough to cut off blood. Her fingernails dug into his skin. She kept him at arms length, just long enough to protect herself, and her eyes narrowed as she looked him over. "Put it back and I will let you live," she said. Her voice was a harsh whisper. Her eyes flashed cold. "Just this once." Everyone got one warning. "Although if I ever see you trying this again, you'll have lost your chances for mercy."

His focus was off, in a million different directions as he attempted to keep track of the seconds at the same time as he felt like she was tearing him apart with something invisible. This was why it was important to keep track of how long the magic was taking. It was important to keep track of how long they needed to keep away from this b***h-- Her fingernails stabbed into his wrist before he had much time to consider yanking his arm away. He saw the blood from her fingernails, and at least it felt more accurate to the agony he was under. She was closer now at least. Green hair like seafoam. White. Eyes-- forty, forty, forty-- "What do you," ********, <********>, "care about this rand b***h--" His grip got tighter on the starseed as he tried to overcome the shifting immediate pain. His body ached, but it felt like it was starting to center on his wrist. Was that it--

Cybele didn't answer his question, not right away. "You're still fighting," she pointed out coolly. She squeezed tighter, not particularly worried about if she broke bones or not at this point. She'd given him his warning, and in response he'd decided to snark about it. With her other hand, she started trying to pry his fingers open and to get the starseed out. "I care for a lot of reasons," she said. Part of it that was she wanted to protect the woman laying between them. People didn't deserve to die for walking alone at night. It she was honest, though, what she really wanted was to keep power out of the hands of the Negaverse. She didn't want this woman's death to power someone else's death, someone else's corruption. It was a vicious cycle that had destroyed so many lives, her own included, and she wanted it stopped. "Now let go."

He didn't have much time to celebrate the ends of the magic considering the pain in his wrist only increased to the point of feeling excruciating. He was not anyone who knew anything about sports medicine. He didn't know if anything was breaking, or if it was just because her grip was so ******** tight-- An eternal had been probably the last person he wanted to cross paths with, but it was definitely the one he wanted to make the most notes of. For one, this b***h gave-- OWHis mind was white hot as she peeled his fingers back, his fingers tense with the agony he felt as he attempted to resist out of instinct moreso than logic. Though. He valued his life more than he valued collecting this particular soul. The Earth was infinite. There were infinitely more weak souls he could mine to get to his quota. There were infinitely more that were born every minute. She could have this one. Whatever. "Fine," he hissed through his teeth, "take the damn thing."

Cybele kept her promise. When the soul was safely in her hands, she let the Lieutenant go. Her eyes didn't leave him, even as she knelt protectively near his victim. Her gaze was still narrowed, her muscles still tense, but she did not call on any more magic. She did not touch him again. Her voice was quieter as she said, "I would go home if I were you," but there was no less threat to it.

She left him alone. It seemed that everyone did get one chance. This was probably his only one to get away with this until he had considerably more power. As he stumbled backward, he took a few more moments to note a few other things about the eternal senshi. Short to average height from his estimation. Looked like she walked out of a Grecian novel. Seemed more concerned about the civilian life than the potential to kill him. This time. His wrist was throbbing. He could have sworn he saw someone else as he took a look at the area. A taller girl in white feathers, and he wanted to ask about her to see if he could gather even more information out of this pain, but he also knew better than to push his ******** luck. Best he just take what he ******** got and left. Especially as he was fairly certain that the other one was coming over to join her. No thanks. "Jesus," he hissed under his breath, before a louder, " fine." And he stumbled off as fast as the residual pain would let him. He heard a, "And never come back!" trailing behind him.
