Prompt 5 (Snow Fairies): On a cold winter night, when the moon is nearly full and bright in the sky, you hear laughter. At first, you can't place it, but then you feel little pokes and prods, tugs on your hair, your clothes. Sometimes you think you see something out of the corner of your eye--a small, icy body. Sometimes you hear wings flapping in the night. As long as you are out in the cold, you feel eyes on you and you find yourself the target of small mischief from what seems to be icy little fairies, though they move too fast for you to see or grab. They never speak, only laugh. When you go inside, or venture anywhere with too much light or heat, they seem to disappear and do not bother you again.

If it wasn't that she had been out here expecting company, Eleonora would have waited inside somewhere warm until they finally arrived. Someplace with a functional heater that offered a warm drink, coffee to stay awake or even just some hot tea would do as well. But alas- most cafes were closed for the night already and those that weren't would be shutting their doors soon.

At first, it was just a few snowflakes that settled on her bare shoulders, but when the clump fell off one of the branches, Eleonora let out a loud shriek. "I swear, you better get here soon or I'll go home without you!" she threatened despite knowing her sister was nowhere near enough to hear her threats.

But then there was laughter, a melodious sound that sent shivers up and down her spine; like windchimes when you're trying desperately hard to sleep. No doubt these giggles would haunt her dreams with vivid images of haunted places and wicked smiles; like those horror movies where the doll in the attic would sit motionless in a rocking chair until the curious main character walked in and searched the room only to turn its head when they weren't looking.

Spooky as ********.

"Whoever's out there, I suggest you go away before things get heated." she boasted a not-so-empty threat.

Illyria had been trying to mind her own business. Really she had. But when little things started to occur around her it was hard to make note of what seemed to be going on. Especially when something began tugging at her fur. The Mauvian's gaze narrowed even as she let out a meow of surprise before twisting around to peer into the darkness of the night. Every sense she owned told her that something was watching her ... but what was it?

It wasn't until the eerie laughter, mirthful, but still chilling circled around her that she began to quicken her paw-steps. The curious prodding sensation occurred again and Illyria whirled around as quickly as she could only to see nothing. Her breath quickened for about a moment before she relaxed. There wouldn't be anything good brought by panicking. Instead she sat primly for a moment, studying the darkness around her before getting blasted with a face full of snow.

Shaking herself off Illyria let out a low growl. That hadn't been fair. "Okay, you want a fight, I'll give you a fight."

Paws were not the best to make a decent snowball with but Illyria tried it anyway. She'd fight fire with fire. At the edge of her senses she did pick up the familiar, and comforting, energy signature that spoke of a senshi in the vicinity that she could run to if things got out of hand.

Caught up in the overwhelming panic, Eleonora’s eyes widened when she heard a response to her challenge. It- they… these things were calling her bluff.

Out of nowhere, a snowball came flying toward her only to explode in a smattering of flakes against the tree beside her. “Ha!” she shouted, but the moment of victory was short-lived as a cascade of snow fell from the branch above eliciting another loud shriek as the frozen water slid down her bare skin.

Her fault for standing there but still- what the ********! You asked for it!” Giggles erupted around her as the Senshi of Heat leaned over and grabbed a handful of snow and lobbed it towards the voice she had heard, not even realizing that there was an order signature in that same direction.

She hadn't heard a response at first but even as Illyria's poorly constructed snowball was thrown into the air and batted at which unfortunately didn't act the way she had wanted did another voice cut through the night. It sounded like someone was challenging her after all. Even as she shook off the snow that had just come back down over her body as a result of her attempt to throw something did Illyria realize that yet another snow projectile was arcing towards her.

"Noo, not again," was the sputtered cry even as she attempted to once more shake herself free of the snow that now clung to her fur. Great. Snow clumps were the hardest to get rid of. Illyria's ears flattened as laughter continued to ring through the air around her and she tensed. Was she desperate enough to use her laser beam, was she? When the enemy could not be seen ... only heard?

Taking a risk and realizing she'd be chump change afterwards did Illyria squeeze her eyes closed. The brilliant flash of light across her closed orbs was indicative of a successful attempt - but also she wearily settled lower to the ground. Okay - hopefully that was that. She'd need rest before carrying on.

Suddenly, without warning, the area lit up with a brilliant white light as a beam shot out from a small creature not too terribly far away.

How she managed to dodge the attack was beyond her but the feeble attempt to jump out of the way only resulted in her sandals slipping on ice she hadn’t realized she’d been standing on which sent her sprawling on the shin-high deep snow around her. It took a long moment for her to finally lift her head, or to move her hands under her so she could stand back up on shaky legs. But when she did… Eleonora was met with silence.

The laughter had ceased and all she could hear was the sound of her heart hammering against her chest or her own labored breathing as if she had just run a short marathon.

“H-hello?” she hesitated to call out, and with good reason since a quick glance down at her skirt revealed a sizeable hole along the hem of it. “Holy crap…” she muttered under her breath in a mix of horror and awe knowing how close she’d come to taking some serious damage. Eleonora looked around; or tried to at least since the afterimage of a beam had seared its way across her vision. It took several blinks to finally clear but when it did she noted that while the creatures that had been terrorizing her with haunting laughter, she was not alone. Another signature, order thankfully, was nearby and it made her wonder if that attack was from them.

That beam. Why did it always seem to take so much out of her? Illyria frowned even as she struggled to get her paws back under her if only to remain in a seated position. It seemed more dignified to appear seated rather then belly-flopped on the cold, hard ground. Her gaze blinked steadily even as it seemed as someone else was outside with her. The presence of being watched continued but for the moment it was like the opposition she was dealing with had faded out of sight for a moment.

At the query of "hello" from someplace that was in front of her Illyria meowed softly in response before noting that there was a surprised exclaimed cry of "holy crap" that her ears picked up on. What she also picked up on was that
... the voice sounded oddly familiar.

Her voice was weak as she called back out, "who's there?"

The soft meow was the first red flag. A stray heckled by the mischievous fae creatures perhaps, wouldn’t be the first time she witnessed strange creatures or youma harassing an animal. But then there was a quiet question, a soft inquiry that called out to her.

At that moment, Eleonora realized that a mauvian had been entangled in this mess and that it was likely they who shot at her with their beam, not that she could fault them for it since even she had been unaware.

Snow crushed beneath her sandals as she carefully made her way toward the familiar voice. “Illyria?” she responded almost cautiously. If it wasn’t for her aura, Eleonora might have missed seeing her with how her soft, creme-colored fur blended in with their surroundings. “Oh my goodness, are you ok?” she asked genuinely concerned.

Illyria's ears pricked forward at the mention of her name. She could count on her tiny toes the amount of people who knew her well enough to call her by name. There was still a bit of lethargy after using the only weapon that was open to her before her eyes widened. Her name had come from the direction that her beam had fired into the night. Had she accidentally caused a situation of friendly fire?

"Eleonora," was her soft rejoinder in response to the query that had been posed of her.

The subject of her questioning did indeed appear in her vision and she darted as quickly as she could to Ele's side. It was perhaps the safest place that she could now be. Or was the safest place on Ele's shoulders? Either way now they weren't alone and could watch each other's backs. "Have you been able to see what's out there? Something keeps prodding me and throwing snowballs."

“Uh…” Eleonora let out a nervous laugh as she leaned down to scoop Illyria up in her arms. “The snowball might have been me.” she sheepishly admitted. “As for the rest of it, I have no idea. I haven’t seen anything, only heard quite a bit of giggling at my expense.”

Such a creepy sound that gave her goosebumps, goosebumps.

“What do you say we get out of here before whatever it is that’s been harassing us returns? There might still be some evening cafe’s open, if you’re interested that is.” A warm place to sit with a hot drink to bring feeling back into her hands. Sounded divine in her mind.

The warmth and security that presented itself in the form of being picked up was a blessing. Illyria curled around herself to ward off the chill of being blasted with a snow projectile. The added bonus was that her fur, although damp, would probably start to warm Eleonora up as well. By the sounds of it all that her friend had encountered was merely mental games. Being prodded here and there along the length of her body had not been pleasant but it wasn't a life-threatening situation.

But still the promise of a warm environment and companionship in the form of a friend was divine. She didn't care for the return of being poked and prodded and she gave a little trill of a meow before nodding. The gesture had her looking around for a moment before she snuggled back down in Ele's arms. If the snowball had come from the direction Ele had been in, was it possible that her laser had been accidentally shot in her general area? Her voice, when she spoke, was quiet as she inquired about what she'd been fearing might have happened, "You mentioned that a snowball thrown might have been yours, did anything happen to you?"

Had she hit Eleonora with her beam instead of whatever had been tormenting her earlier?

"Eh..." her shoulders rolled in an unconcerned shrug. "To me? No..." Other than the mild panic attack, physically she was fine. "My uniform on the other hand-" Eleonora grabbed a fistful of fabric and lifted the back of her skirt where the beam of light seared a hole right through it.

"Fortunately it'll be repaired by the time I power up again." Benefits of some unseen cosmic tailor that fixed any damage done to uniforms because hashtag - magic

Well, that was a relief then. It wasn't a good thing that she had fired her laser in the direction that a friend had been standing but at that particular moment had she known? Short answer - there might have been the smallest of inklings that another powered individual had been nearby but with all the confusion she had fired first and had been waiting to ask questions later.

In hindsight, not the best idea. But if all the beam had scorched was Eleonora's fuku then she had gotten off quite lucky; they both had. She nudged Ellie's hand softly with her head before pawing at her friend's arm, "sorry for almost causing you an injury. I just wanted to get whatever those things were away from me. So far it seems to have worked, right?"

She settled once more and waited to see where Eleonora would head for this warm environment.

“Whatever that beam was, I think it did the trick.” Better than the empty threats she had shouted at them. Those little tricksters just called her bluff. But when the area was illuminated by a bright light, they were quick to flee. Whether they just went into a dark corner to wait or were banished to whatever place they came from was yet to be seen.

For now, and hopefully for the rest of the evening, they would leave them be and let the two of them leave in peace.
