Theriar 1 He was performing routine maintenance on his new ship. He had saved for a very long time to be able to purchase her as an upgrade to the ship he had gotten to replace the one commandeered by pirates. It had been much needed and he was delighted to put the work in that would return the ship to tip top condition, unfortunately that also meant he would be doing quite a bit of sanding and finishing. His friend had sent him some nice smelling fluid that made the wood waterproof. He was grateful for it too, the new ship smelled like a basket of flowers.
In a pause he looked up and was surprised to see a figure on the sand.

Kechi 1 Her father had told her where to go to meet the hybrid who could help her with her dream. She approached the boat in drydock and climbed right up, with a thump she hit the deck.
"My name is Kechiri, daughter of Ushiwa and Saeruin, granddaughter of Kiyelt and Ninaeleth. I wish to learn the seas and to be taught how to sail. Would you be willing to teach me? I want to be a pirate one day."

Theriar 2 He blinked, she certainly was forward, lacking the cultivated diplomacy and social skills of her paternal grandmother as well as the awkwardness of her paternal grandfather. He could so tel that she would be a handful to say the least, especially with that raised chin and the straight back. "Sailing is hard work, and it had takes no small amount of dedication, are you prepared for that?"

Kechiri 2 "I wouldn't be here if I was not ready. I am determined and dedicated that will have to do." She nodded her head in way of respect. He was an older dude after all and apparently somewhat level headed and good at his job. Not bad on the eyes either, with interesting swirly markings and crystals. She hoped he wasn't dumb, having to deal with dumb people was a personal hell for which she had no patience and she didn't want to have to find a new teacher.

Theriar 3 Just what had he gotten himself into this time? Argh! The things he did for good friends.
"Very well then I will teach you to sail, fair warning my courses are field based and I teach you everything... like how to sand. "He passed her sand paper and everything else she would need. "It won't be easy but you will be able to captain a boat if you complete it."

Kechiri 3 "I accept that." She took the implements from him. Sanding perhaps wouldn't be the most fun task but he was also willing to do it himself which said much for his character and the importance of the task. She had also signed up for this. "Where should I start?" She asked.

Theriar 4 He had to say that he had expected a lot more drama from her than he actually got. The ship had been under maintenance for a month. During that time he had taught her the importance of each and every part of the ship and how to keep it maintained. He was becoming quite fond of his pocket pirate. Finally it was ready to be set free back to the ocean where the ship belonged.

Kechiri 4 Finally they were going to be able to go to sea! It felt like forever. The ship released from dry dock, slid elegantly into the water after her spa treatment. It was spectacular to see and she was happy that she got to be a part of it. "Congrats Theriar! She looks regal out there, very beautiful, and elegant lady.

Theriar 5 “Thank you, we both put a lot of effort in to make this happen. Now we get to be on the water. I will even give you the honor of going on board first Kechiri, you earned it. You should be bery proud of the work your put in.” He rolled them out to the ship and let her climb the side, he secured the rowboat and followed her. He sighed happily when his feet touched the planking. Home.

Kechiri 5 She had to adjust to the pitch and yaw as the deck rolled most obligingly with the waves below. Theriar seemed not to have a problem at all keeping his balance. Perhaps then the affinity came with time. “It moves oddly, it is hard to balance and compensate.” She staggered a bit as the deck rolled after a larger swell. She caught at the sides of the rail to keep herself steady.

Theriar 6 "Never fear, you will get your sea legs soon enough. Fair warning though, land might feel like its rolling after you have been on the sea for a while. Eventually your proper balance returns. The most worriesome thing is the chance of seasickness, not everyone gets it, but those that do sometimes get it quite bad."

Kechiri 6
Needless to say, she was hopeful that she would not be one of those people. She spent some time walking back and forth, allowing herself to adjust before she borked it when it mattered. Grace and image ha always been quite important to her, just as it had been (probably still was), for her Aunty Kina. She would do her Aunt proud!

Theriar 7 Once she had adjusted to walking without staggering he walked her through the things that he could not teach her as easily when the ship had been in dry dock. Then they started a leisure sail exercise. He pointed out how wind caught the sails, the relative force that it produced at different angles. As well as how to measure the speed of the ship.

Kechiri 7 She hadn't realized how much went into ships and sailing but at least she had a fantastic and patient teacher. She had been very lucky that he had been willing to take her on as a pupil. It was a lot to learn, but she had the luxury of being able to focus on it exclusively. After their sailing she was mentally and physically exhausted but also very happy with the results of the day.

Theriar 8 Over the next few days, they went out to sea again and again, going right back to basics was good for him he was sure. It was fun to see sailing from someone else's eyes for a change, where the movements had to be learned and not simply muscle memory like he had. He was pretty sure he could sail with his eyes closed but working with Kechiri helped him to see details that he had skimmed over or hadn't seen.
Eventually they got to talking.
"I was wondering, why you wanted to be a pirate?"
