"It should be around here." Teagan pursed her lips as she crawled through the tall grass. She knew she had seen something fall to the ground, but she had only gotten a glimpse enough to catch her interest. The tall trees overhead were thin enough that plenty of light still shown through the branches, but she couldn't see anything that might have dropped whatever that had been. Maybe something had fallen rather than dropped then? She stood up and scratched her head impatiently to make sure she was still in the right area. "Nothing... You find anything, Branna?"

"No, you sure it wasn't a leaf?" Branna glanced up at the colorful foliage, the signs of autumn making half of the area gold and orange with some scarlet splashed in between. He was hiding beneath a scarf, his hands covered in gloves to protect him from the wind and whatever creature they were stalking. Just because others complained about something bothering the local village did not mean that they had to go traipsing after it, right? So why did he tag along with Teagan yet again?
"You know, I understand we have family who deal with beasts but are we really qualified to catch anything?" He questioned Teagan, keeping an eye out as his sister crawled along. While she was trying to be sneaky, he was just kind of casually tagging along and hoping his presence would keep whatever it was away.

Teagan snorted and waved her hand dismissively. "Sure we are! You know how the town is anyway. I bet it's just some loatoa or poscuta scratching around." Bunch of ninnies in this area, they were! Even if Teagan and her family was just passing through and had only been there two days, she could certainly tell what the villagers were like! "Ah-ha!" She hurried forward to a spot where the grass was wiggling strangely. There on the ground was a chubby grub type of creature desperately trying to get back to the comfort of the tree it had come from. It looked like a deep gouge had been taken out of its side. "What the blazes is that?" Unnoticed in the branches above, a seriffin hopped along the branches with its eyes intently locked on the virma below, aka 'dinner,' and the earthling approaching it.

Branna simply raised a brow at his sister's commentary, the teen opting to keep his silence to simply observe however this situation went. He had learned that sometimes silence was better than words, especially when it came to certain siblings who were surprisingly stubborn when it came to things. Would he remind them later when things went sideways that they had decided to pursue things? Most definitely. But for now though he just followed along until it was absolutely necessary for him to step forward to help out.
Branna stood behind Teagan as she approached the grass, the teen crossing his arms as he studied the grub. "Looks like dinner for something." He observed with a shake of his head. "Poor thing, whatever was trying to snack on it did a horrible job." Suddenly a crack of a twig above them made Branna move forward so that he could tug Teagan backwards. "Think they're coming back for seconds." Was it a kinfa or some other type of bird? He watched as a feather slowly fluttered down towards them, the peaceful moment ruined a moment later by the squawk of an angry seriffin wanting its food.

"Well, we can't just leave it like that." Teagan wrinkled her nose as she reached for the dagger that she kept in her sock. Her fingers only brushed the hilt when she was suddenly yanked back. "Hrck! Branna, what-?" She looked up where her brother was eyeing and gapped. "Whoa!" She took a step closer again as the bird dropped to a lower branch and glared at them. "What're you?" She got another angry squawk in reply which made her laugh. "Are you the one botherin' people? Sure are crabby enough." She spun with a grin to face Branna. "We can catch it when it comes down for that grub!"

"Well it's definitely not a kinfa." Branna commented, ever so helpfully, as he studied the larger bird that was most definitely annoyed by their presence. "If it's bothering people....how do you suppose we're going to catch it?" He questioned his twin, taking a wary step back as he glanced between the strange creature and the struggling grub. Maybe it would have been best if he had just allowed Teagan to end its misery, but then the strange bird wouldn't be as interested...at least that was the feeling he got from the creature.
"If you propose jumping and trying to ride it or something like that then I would suggest not doing that." He admitted quietly, his gaze sweeping over the area as he pondered their options.

Teagan cocked her head. "It could be a baby kinfa?" she offered with a smirk. "Yeah, somethin' like serfin or sarfin? Aunt Tali would know for sure." While she hadn't been fond of cleaning the stables, it had certainly been interesting to see the different animals occasionally within. She had seen all sorts of creatures thanks to the sanctuary, and now the trips with her family. She glanced over her shoulder and gave Branna a contemplative pout. "It's just a bird, an' not even that big. I bet jumpin' on it would be enough. Didn't ya bring rope or somethin'?" She grinned and pointed at his neck. "Could use your scarf."

Branna made a face at the idea. "Definitely not." He reinforced with a shake of his head, the teen still keeping his gaze on the creature just in case it decided they looked better than the grub. Kinfa were chubbier as chicks and their legs weren't so long nor did they have razor sharp beaks that looked ready to tear someone apart. He actually liked kinfa and was hoping to try to see if he could claim one at some point, the large birds always caught his interest with their vivid colors and patterns. He also enjoyed the freedom of the skies, especially since his family had instilled a love of travel within the teen.
"Serrifin." Branna blinked at the word before nodding towards Teagan. "Surprise, surprise but you did actually remember a few things." He teased despite the tense situation, the teen's amusement fading as Teagan asked for his scarf. "It's one of my favorites." He protested, his hand reaching up to tug at the cream colored scarf with flowing designs of various shades of green and blue layered into it. "You're telling me...we came out here to inspect for an animal and you didn't bring any rope?" He chastised Teagan with a frown, the teen wanting to say more until the creature decided it had enough of arguing teens and snapped its beak their way. It apparently wanted to finish the grub off without spectators, but the motion made Branna sigh as he handed his scarf to his twin. "I won't take any responsibility and you'll owe me a new one if that gets ruined."

Teagan glared and stuck out her tongue before she held out her hand. "Serrifin. Close enough. Now come on, it's just a scarf." At least she had the decency to look somewhat apologetic when her blunder was pointed out. "I did bring rope. Just.. not here. Like I said, I figured it'd be nothin'." She scooped up the scarf and wrapped the ends around her hands. "I promise, a new one if this one gets ruined. Now hush." She nudged Branna back a few steps and knelt down to be less obvious to the serrifin. The avian clicked its beak a few times before it decided it was safe to go grab its meal. The moment it touched the ground, Teagan leaped forward from her crouch. There was a grand tussle of feathers and limbs. At nearly half Teagan's size, the serrifin put up an admirable fight. When the dust cleared though, Teagan stood victorious with Branna's scarf pinning the avian's wings and beak. It continued to dig its claws into the ground to get away, but there was little else it could do now. Despite the scratches on her arms and one that oozed on her cheek, she looked quite pleased with herself. "I got it! Feisty little bugger, eh?"

Branna shot his twin a glare. Just a scarf! His azure gaze lit up with frustration but he kept his mouth shut since Teagan at least promised to get him a new one if the serrifin destroyed the scarf in question. All he could do is watch as Teagan pinned down the creature, a soft sigh of relief leaving his lips as it seemed that she had somehow managed to snag the beast. Now they just had to figure out what to do next.
"Mmmhm. We'll have to apply ointment to those scratches." He replied quietly, his frustration ebbing down into something more akin to concern as he noticed the injuries. Even if they were slight they could still get infected. Branna shook his head before looking between the serrifin and his twin. "Now what? If we take it back to town what do you suppose they'll do?" They weren't close enough to their aunt's sanctuary to take the beast...not unless they somehow managed to drag it along until they returned to that particular area at some point. Not like he should be concerned but then again he knew how some angry villagers could react to the presence of an animal that had been a menace...troubling indeed.

One hand rose to touch the scratches as though only Branna's comment made her aware they were even there. She winced slightly and then chuckled. "Yeah. Guess it did get me a little bit." Now what? Teagan panted softly and looked down at the creature. While her main concern was proving herself and collecting the reward, she didn't want the animal to actually be killed off if it wasn't an outright threat. The serrifin could be dangerous, but they could be managed. "Well, I beat it. I'll just tell 'em I wanna take it with me, an' just release it further away from the town. Maybe it'll be smart and won't come back." She looked up at Branna and gave him a coy grin. "I can't carry it and keep its beak pinned shut, and your scarf's only big enough for the body. You wanna carry the body or pin the face?"

Branna frowned again, his gaze narrowing thoughtfully as he pondered the proposed option. "Maybe we can have something rigged to keep it contained until it feels friendlier or at least civil towards us. Releasing it even a bit away from town may just lead it back..." Some creatures did have a habit of wandering back into familiar territory even if you did try to rehome them. But did they want to be stuck with a serrifin? "If we can get it to Aunt Tally maybe that's for the best."
"What lovely options for carrying it." Mused Branna, sarcasm thick in his voice as he glanced over the creature. Teagan already had scratches so he didn't want to risk more, but at the same time he didn't want to hurt his own hands. Nor could they simply release the beast here because that would ruin the whole purpose of this excursion and not help the local villagers at all. "Hold on..." Clothing could be replaced, as much as he hated the idea of it, and so Branna took out the small hunting knife he had taken along with him for these situations and with a quick movement sliced through the bottom of his own tunic. "That should be enough material to wrap around the beak, yes? Use that and also keep an eye on pinning the face, I'll carry the thing." Less chance for mistakes if they stumbled on the way back towards town if the beak was wrapped as well. He would just add a new tunic to the list of things Teagan owed him, even if she hadn't agreed to such a deal.

"Once we get the reward, we can get a net or somethin' ta tie it up better with." Then they could take the bird anywhere! It was just a matter of getting to town first... Teagan chuckled at Branna's sarcasm and just waited for him to mull over their options. She was shocked to see the tunic torn through and actually felt her cheeks heat up apologetically. She would owe him more than just a scarf now... "You coulda used my clothes," she murmured. Then she wouldn't have owed anything extra! Oh well... She was starting to wonder if the reward was going to be worth it. "Okay. You got the body, I got the head." She took the cloth and went to secure the bird's beak. It squawked and snapped at her, but she managed to wrap with without further incident. "Okay. Let's go!"

"May take more than that, but we'll figure it out." Branna acknowledged with a nod, he didn't doubt their capability...he just also recognized how reckless some of his family could be with certain situations. Teagan, most definitely was his top pick for the sibling to find danger the quickest and to dive right into it. It definitely made him wary, the teen not confident in his own abilities to protect anyone since fighting truly wasn't his forte. Still, he would just have to hope for the best and maybe one day the voice of reason would win over bravery and the like.
"I could use new clothing." Branna responded quietly, a flash of something akin to mischief showing in his azure gaze despite his calm expression, the teen giving a slight shrug as he worked on confirming that the scarf was secured around the serrifin's body. "Just try to keep the same pace, we don't want to accidentally drop it." The serrifin was already burning holes through them with its beady gaze lit with fury while the now frayed scarf barely managed to keep its talons tucked against his body so that Branna could help carry the creature away from the grove and towards town. At least the feathers were truly beautiful now that he could get a closer look. Maybe it would drop a couple after they finally released it and he could work with them for accessories or something. A shimmer of a turquoise and white patterned feather caught his attention from where a ray of sunlight hit it on the path next to them, Branna tucking it into his belongings before adjusting the serrifin once more so that they could continue onwards.
